I'm lookin' at a car and I'd like to get it. Problem is I'm not sure how strict the Smogging in Cali is. Does anyone know. Car has upgraded turbo and test pipe. I know the test pipe will have to be replaced but cat .... is there anything else I should worry about ?? Thanks for your help.

It must be completly stock!!! Make sure whoever sells it to you gives you the stock parts with it. Most places these days know that its not a stock turbo. Save yourself the hassle and just take it in stock with all the cats/emissions equipment.

it does not have to be completely stock. unless you get busted and have to see the ref. but if its just a regular smog test/test only for title change, just make sure you can pass the emissions tests, and you go to a place that isnt really strict on visual.

Its a good idea to put on as much of the stock stuff as possible and if there are legal parts in there make sure there are some numbers or some stickers to prove that you can have them in there.

I passed an n/a eclipse with some dc headers, blocked off egr, aem intake and gauges all over the place but I had ONE stupid sticker for the intake and the header had some id number on it and they took it, at a test only.
Passed
You will be surprised what you can get away with.
Moral of the story is either its stock or given the impression that its legit.

Good Luck

Is there a general place that's not so strict or is it a matter of checkin' around ?? I just moved to Cali. So pretty much put the cat back on and the airbox and I should be fine for a regular smog test only thing ??

Lowered is legal though right ??

Lowered is fine but now you have the problem of finding a place to take it to. Go to a place where the dyno is in the floor and not on a ramp. few and far between might I add.

as long as it looks stock and sounds pretty much stock you shouldn't have to many issues to deal just try and stay away from test only stations:notgood: if you can.

Look in my profile, see all those mods. I passed with all those mods, minus the denso 660s. I put back my stock injectors. This was pre DSMLINK, with SAFCII. Maybe next time around I can leave the 660s in there. I also passed when I had a big16g which even looks more stock then my current polished t04e compressor housing. So both times no problem.

My engine bay looks like this

No under the table or hookup from anybody. I have a 95 so I did not need to have the OBDII readiness test. 95 was the transition year so apparently they dont test 95 cars. Even more of a plus so I don't have to tweak with my DSMLink or anything like that. Also I have AWD so no rollers. As you can see from the picture I have K&N FPIK which has a CARB #. They write that down, and I told them it is for the entire intake system. So use your imagination there. I also told them the car is factory turbo, which is true. And thus the reason for that big shiny turbo there. I just wanted to clean up the engine bay. :) I also really really really baby my car when it comes to maintenance so everything is in working order. I'm sure every lil thing helped in passing.

I really want to push it and get cams because it will top off my street being able to pass smog setup, but I'm still contemplating the idea.

WOW. Thanks a lot. I feel a lot more @ ease now. Horn doesn't work though. But I should be able to get that fixed for cheap. And I'll clean up my Engine bay and try my damndest to get it as clean as you pics there. I'm a bit jealous.

No Joke LOL

alright a Riverside DSMer :thumb: there are very few of us around here :D Anyway, Ive got an upgraded turbo with fmic, i spray all my piping black and use a 1g bov, looks real close to OEM. During smog time i put back the stock smic, remove the MBC, and set the SAFC to zeros and hide it

RedTurboEclipse - you passed smog with the short route and fmic?
