To anyone running any Evo BOV.... Does it make that "whistle" that 1g's make on decel / vaccuum conditions? I hate it, and if I could get an evo bov cheap, I'd rather do that then get a aftermarket bov. I vent to the atmosphere if it matters (MAF-T).

Thanks.

Honestly, it's got a pretty good "whoosh" in between shifts. Now I'm not sure if that's because I'm running 15 psi now, and my stock plastic one could hardly handle stock boost. Either way, I don't notice any "whistle".

I run a 1g crushed BOV at 25PSI with no problems. It's foolproof, easy, and reliable and thats why I have no reason to change.

I'm not talking about between shifts, but more so when you do let off the gas driving casually, at are -18 in/hg the 1g BOV makes a "whistle" noise as it opens for a few seconds... And I HATE that noise! This is just driving casual, WOT it will make the same woosh noise, but I don't like BOV noise that much and don't want that whistle.

-right at 4 seconds on that vid you can hear the "whistle" i'm describing. at 2 seconds it's just blowing off, 4 seconds is the whistle

if the evo 8 bov will work on stock inter cooler pipe then get that one. my evo 8 tb barly held 18psi, so if you are under that then get it. if you are close or over get a different one

Nope, I've never heard anything like that from the Evo MR. The only time I notice the bov is when I let off. I love it! Inside the car it almost sounds like I'm venting to atmosphere. I myself like the nice Whooosh sound. It lets people know not to mess with it. :nono:

why would you compare a nice metal unit from the 1g to a shitty plastic one from the evo 8. If you really want a newer metal mitsu bov, get a evo 8 mr one or a evo9 one, which are basically the same.

thats why you just do the dodge garage mod to the stock 1g bov. It holds even higher boost then 27psi. Im running one currently and i dont see problems at all

I have the same bov as kylelilley. The evo9 bov holds pretty good and i have not had any problems with it. Btw kyle its not that you're doing 15 psi and it sounds good, it sounds good period ! I have tried this bov 3 different ways, recirculated, vented, and modified recirculated. Sounds like a short version of the hks ssqv when recirc. on stock bov dump tube, then a nice woosh on the modified dump tube and a real nice turboXs-type-of-loud WOOSH when vented. Overall this bov is great and im going to use it on a fmic kit im custom making for my car. The best part i got this bov for free :D

Yeah man im telling you this bov rocks :rocks: Btw, did you modify the dump tube ?

Yeah, but I kinda cheated. I just pulled the intake out and attacked it with some air tools without even cutting the epoxy out. I was able to grind it down to where it's pretty much perfectly smooth and flush with the intake pipe. Once I was satisfied, I blew out the intake tube with the air hose and re-installed. Piece of cake! I noticed just a little bit more whoosh but not a ton.

Oh i see nice. I wish i had some air tools :| Gofast its easy, just what the last 2 posts said. Get the stock intake out, pull the dump tube out or in some cases leave it in place and grind out a good piece of it to shorten the tube, therefore increasing airflow to the turbo and amplifying the bov inside.

Good news, so basically I have answers to some of your questions from my 1st thread right here.

My older bro's friend with the 3000GT VR-4 Twin Turbo (my BOV came from his 3000GT front clip he used to have) is right beside me at this moment, he has answered some of your questions about my car. Trust me, he knows his sh*t (most of his cars he owned were built from the ground up by him).

1st pic, site that sells BOV just like mine. 2nd - 4th pics (resized) are pics of my BOV:

He says that the BOV in that first pic from the site looks exactly just like mine, he's sure. Now here are his answers:

this issue could also simply be "flutter" from the BOV... my type-s flutters a LOT! especially when i'm in very high vac (like 0-10 in/HG) .02

He said your right, some BOV's flutter frequently. Common and ok to flutter while driving at low boost levels.

It looks like you could actually recirculate that bov. Loosen that clamp at the bottom and rotate it. Then go buy a new recirc tube and you should be good on the recirc end.

He said you can recirculate it (he has before), but it won't make a difference because 50% of the air will shoot out through the other side.

If he can figure out how to properly set up the BOV, yes. But he had surge problems with it. If anyone knows more about that BOV, chime in and give him some instruction on how to properly adjust it...or atleast identify it. It does look almost exactly like the one in the image he posted earlier ($250!!).

EDIT: This is from the site selling AVO BOVs (looks just like his): "AVO blow off valves are a 50/50 vent system that retains the return tube, keeping the stock computer system happy, while an additional vent sends hot air to atmosphere." That tells me that even if he hooks up the recirc tube, it'll still vent half the air.

Kenamond, he just said your absolutely correct. That's exactly what it is, a 50/50 vent system. You hit it on the money, when he first got it, he tried to find a way to recirculate it but figured it would still let out half the air from the other "oval" side.

From what I can tell, the BOV vaccuum line is on the correct things (one end on the intake manifold, one end on the BOV nipple), but you still need another BOV that you can recirculate.

You say that that BOV came with a 3000GT clip. What was on your car before that BOV in the picture?

Is the ticking you hear at the manifold just the injectors opening and closing? They click as the solenoid opens and closes. Also, it could be lifter tick.

A ticking thrust bearing doesn't sound good. The 2g 7-bolt motors have been known to crankwalk. If yours is walking, that's not good; replacing the bearing will buy you time, but won't stop it from happening again. But that's if it's crankwalk.

He just told me "lifter tick? No, it's not lifter tick. Your car doesn't have that, i'm sure." He then started asking me questions as to what the sound is like, but he'll check out my car in a lil bit. He then said "Crank walk, nah man, you don't have crank walk." I already knew (and kenamond knows since I told him) that I don't have CW, the results on the CW test came back negative.

Those are all the questions he answered (some questions from other users were repeated from what I already put up). I did say my car seems to be stuttering while flooring it in 3rd gear in another thread and he just gave me advice saying "try changing your spark plugs since they are old enough already. It may be the problem." With his 3000GT, it would buck and he changed the spark plugs, all that stuttering, buck, w/e, stopped. He then said "If it's not the spark plugs, it may be a really bad boost leak similar to what that person (tbonitz301) told you earlier (my other thread)."

I completely forget what boost you were running and am too lazy to go back and read :p. But if you're running below about 17psi, go pick up a set of NGK BPR6ES for $2/ea at NAPA and gap them to 0.028". If you're boosting higher than that, get 7ES, same gap, same price. It's a very cheap and very quick thing to replace and if your plugs are old is not at all a waste of $8. Plugs are often the cause of stutter after boost hits.
