Hey guys,
I’ve been chasing bugs in my 92 talon Tsi Awd 5 spd for that last couple weeks. Mainly idle surge, boost leaks, isc, tps, coolant temp sensor, O2 sensor, fiav, biss, egr, timing belt and pretty much anything to do with getting the car to be drivable. After verifying or replacing all that stuff I was still having an issue getting the car to run correctly. Tonight after running out of parts to test or diagnose I decided to pop the cover off of the ecu and it is indeed burnt in a couple places.
I need advice on either to send it out for refurbishment or source a used ecu and send it to ecmlink to be inspected. Based on the attached pics is my current ECU worth sending out to be fixed? How much damage is too much? Any input would be greatly appreciated
Also on a side note my symptoms were poor adjustability with CAS during setting the ignition timing. Seemed like I would get it set to 5* btdc and it would stay there for a very short time if at all. Setting base idle did the same thing, any adjustments made worked for very short time. After getting timing and idle set the best I could under the circumstances any amount of throttle and the rpms would drop super low and choke the engine out. Also running really rich to the point of lots of carbon on the spark plugs.
