i thought it was going to end today, i thought a trip to the mitsubishi dealer would end all my troubles. apparently i was wrong, it looked like all my troubles JUST STARTED... let me go through this from the beginning....

i bought a bunch of parts from dejon tool last AUGUST. one of the parts i bought was a sheet metal intake manifold. since it moves the throttle body and i was getting an fmic, i didnt want to have to buy two different uicp. SAVES MONEY, RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!?!? so I get the intake manifold on, along with everything else. first the ignition sequence was wrong, then i forgot to plug in the power transistor unit all the way, then the battery died, and finally, the car started, but would not idle. WHY? vacume leak at the intake manifold. I had no idea why, so after spending about a month on this problem, i desided to replace the gasket and see what that did. as i was replacing the gasket, i noticed THE DEMON BOLT. the threads were fine until about half way up where they somehow had been flattened out. this caused the 20 ft lbs my torque wrench put into this bolt to simply turn the bolt, rather than have it be close enough to actually pull down on the intake manifold, and that caused the leak. no mind you, it was very hard for me to actually find the leak since i know no one with an air compressor, and finally found someone local who i borrowed from. by local i mean aobut 40 miles away. real local. so i simply torqued it down more this next time. someone on tuners told me it would be fine since the buisness end of the bolt still worked. now the car started and idled, but its at a weak -15 hg/in. and it was at about 500-600 rpms, and stalled when i stopped sometimes. so i desided to order, among other things, a new intake manifold bolt from the mitsubishi dealership. the parts came today. MY PROBLEMS ARE OVER, WAIT, NO!!!!!!! i get to the mitsubishi dealer, and while im looking at the bolts i bought, i see a HUGE, 6 inch long 17mm bolt. I ask what the hell it is. he looks on the package and says, thats a head bolt. I tell him i didnt order a head bolt. I go through and find out what i DONT HAVE, since the head bolt had to be one of them. it was the intake manifold gasket. over the phone while ordering the parts, when i said its a 12mm bolt, about 1 and a half inches long, that goes through the intake manifold and gasket. he took that for 6 inch long 17mm bolt. so now we had to find which part it was. they didnt have it in stock. great. i talked to kevin, who said i should bring the bolt in and they could find one of the same size. so i drive home and go to get THE DEMON BOLT off my car. its on there really tight, and now that the fuel rail is in the way, i have about 5 degrees to work with. YAY. after a lot of struggle i get it off. i go back. KEVIN LEFT. but some other guy who was with us hooks me up, gives me these two bolts that are the same size for free. aka no receipt, under the table, i have no proof this guy gave it to me. so i went home, and started screwing in the bolt. i get towards the end and it starts getting really hard, but the crush washer isnt even crushed all the way yet, i figure its a strong crush washer and keep going. ALL OF THE SUDDEN (DUN DUN DUN) I HEAR A CRACK, MY HAND GOES FLYING, I CUT MY HAND ON SOMETHING, AND THEN I HEAR A PIECE OF METAL HIT THE GROUND. THE BOLT BROKE. NOW I HAVE A NIFTY USELESS HEADSTUD. i havent tried, but im guessing the car wont idle again.... just a guess. so how the hell am i supposed to get this damn screw out of my head. ive taken the smim off once already, and if i take it off ill have to replace the gasket since its a crush type gasket. im calling mitsubishi tomorrow but i doubt they will do anything for me. if they do tow my car to their garage and take this screw out for me for free, ill be amazed. most likely ill have to shell out a cool 100 just to get this out. and im racing on the 20th of feb, my dejon exhaust is coming next week, im gone this and next weekend, and im about to FREAK OUT. IM TIRED OF THIS SHIT. and now looking at it, they gave me the wrong bulb too. I SAID DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TURN SIGNAL, AND THEY SCREW THAT UP TOO!?!?!?!??!??!??!?

Wow, the dealership screwed up an order... Never been in that boat before:mad: . Man, I hate everyone at Mitsubishi. It's like they pulled workers directly out of Schucks. I hate Schucks. Just about everytime I deal with them I don't get what I asked for. As for the demon bolt, that sucks. I've never dealt with bolts back there, but it sounds like its a bi*** to access. Your probably going to have to take it off again, though, to get an E-Z Out in there if it is really hard to access. As far as the bolt not tightening when it hit the crush washer, you may have had a bolt that was a tad too long. Possibly next time (assuming you take on the job next time) you should thread it in before the manifold goes on to assure everything in there is ok. Good luck, buddy. That sucks:notgood:

the bolts that the guy gave me were 1mm longer than the oem one, but i figured that wouldnt be a problem.... im still baffled at this whole event. im just going to call them and tell them i want them to order the correct bolt, tow my car to their shop, and get the screw out, since this is their fault. if paul would answer his phone i would have taken this to him last weekend and just said heres the list of problems, fix them. its not even that long of a list, it just keeps getting longer though.

install mbc (easy)

remove ac bracket and cut off part needed for awd axel or whatever (im not going to do that shit, im so tired of this im about to kill someone, the first thing i was going to have paul do)

new turn signal light (easy if the dealer will give me the right bulb)

lower my licp so my pop up headlight will close all the way (easy, doing this myself)

install my bov boost leak preventer (see dejontool, i probably wont install this any time soon, but i will do it myself)

replace that bolt and hope that it idles correctly/has good vaccum at idle, if not find out why it doesn't (i think my bov leaks at idle, i can feel air passing by my hand at idle, i have a gm maf on the uicp dont worry, i vent correctly, if the bolt didnt fix my problem i was going to have paul look at it, but the bolt just created more problems....)

replace the power steering lines (my bad, should have done this right the first time)

make a box for the air filter (ill get around to it)

clean the starter motor (ill get around to it)

its not that long compaired to before i got it running and stuff i guess.... but a few days ago it was like 4 things long...

Sometimes for a bolt you can get better service at Loews or Home Depot.

If they wont get the bolt out...you are going to either have to slice off the ends with a dremel and make a small head on the end of the bolt for a socket, slice the bolt down the middle about 1/4" and use a flathead to get it out slowly, or worst case, pull your head and drill it out hoping you dont hit anything inside.

they are doing the work, even if i have to pay for it. im almost sick just looking at the car. knowing all the time i spent working on it was just screwed over by one bolt. i was thinking a vice grip would work, but then i realised id have to take off the smim, and im not going to do that, THEY ARE.... Its about time i drove that car again. (whats funny is the first thing i realised when i was driving it at -15hg/in is how horrible the tranny is, o and it was driving poorly and only boosted to like 8 psi slowly...)

MAJOR UPDATE:
to make myself feel better i bought a vr4 fuel pump, hopefully i get that and the dejon tools exhaust on before the 20th of feb, and get the car running. going down my list, the only things i actually have to do before the 20th is, replace that bolt, it did run anyways before, hopefully that will fix the leak anyways, but if it doesnt it will still drive, maybe if i crush my bov a little it will stop leaking. install the vr4 fuel pump and exhaust. replace the power steering lines and use clamps this time. install the mbc at 16 psi, then one i get there bump it up to like 20 psi, since i have a nice fmic, and will have all the fuel i could need on a 14b.

i am running twelves on the 20th .

btw, thats a big period right there

Well I have a corner exhaust manifold stud broken off in my head, I tryed to pull it out with and easy out but that broke. It sucks I know. Anyway just for future refrence, If you think you have an intake manifold leak. Get a can of brake clean and spray all around the head/manifold. If the car ####s up or revs up you have a leak. owell good luck

i tried that before when the car wouldnt idle but i needed someone to keep it alive and i dont think they were paying attention. but now that the car DID idle, i could have tested that way again... damn, wish i had remembered that. too late now.

How about getting a hold of CAPS and looking up the part #'s yourself? Then, when you go to the dealer, tell him the EXACT part number you need. That eliminates ALL errors. And if you get the wrong part, it's because YOU told him the wrong #.
