hey guys, i'm new to the forum. i have a 99 GSX, only mod is an Injen intake and some little things like projector headlights and taillights. i have a ton of stuff on my wish list, but funds are low. i am somewhat new to the DSM family, so any suggestions or info would definetely be appreciated. thanks a lot

Nikki

i'm not too concerned with the looks of the car. they look great stock! i'm definetely going for speed first. she'll be a sleeper..haha
the next few mods i want to do are exhaust, BOV, and intercooler. but i'm so confused with what companies to go with. i have a lot of experience with 300zx tt's and what parts are good for them, but DSMs are a whole nother breed and i need a little guidence. originaly i was thinking about going with Greddy Power Extreme exhaust, but now i dont know. i'm pretty sure i'm gonna go with HKS SSQV BOV, and possibly Greddy or Spearco IC...any suggestions?

UICP- Dejon Tool, Dave Brode

Exhaust - Most go with the APexi N-1, Thermal R&D is also popular.

BOV- Lots of people with 2G's go with a 1G CBV. Stock they recirculate, so make sure you recirculate back into the intake pipe. If you want to vent, get a GM MAS and Translator. Most popular BOV are 1G, HKS SSQ, Greddy Type-S.

Intercooler- Lots of people like the Supra sidemount IC. If you plan on going with a 16G or simlar sized turbo, this will be just fine or a smaller FMIC will do good. If you plan on going larger (FP Green, GT series, T3/T4 50 trim etc) then a FMIC would be good. Lots of people like the Spearco and Greddy.

Don't forget the fuel mods (pump/injectors), tuning mods (logger/AFC)

Welcome to the board, and happy tuning.

Howdy

Just read up. Some parts you buy for that machine will NOT need to be a highpriced company. Exhaust can be had cheaper than any of those GReddy/Apex/HKS companies can ever offer. They will also be bigger in most cases.

Have fun and read up before you just go and buy some overpriced piece of junk. I waited along time for some things and have still yet to decide on others.

Happy Modding!!!

that would be the one thats not on the car, rather laying on the garage floor.

thought you wanted a sleeper?

haha yeah i do... your car looks good, i need to get some pics of mine up on here... nothin special though:rolleyes:

I'm not 100% but i don't think that the margin of difference in each company's system makes a difference.Think about it a 3inch pipe is a 3inch pipe regardless of who put it together. As long as it's mandrel bent they all will yeild the same results. Some sound different than others. Like Chad (Midnght) said above some parts don't have to come from the high priced companies. IMO Exhaust systems (as long as Mandrel bent properly) are one of the things that you can be a cheapass on. I've had a turbo back built for less than $400 which is much less than alot of company's catback systems.

RIght on, i'm bubilding a 3" mendrel bent system, with a 3" ebay muffler. I bet it will be just as good as an APexi/GReddy/HKS system.

Had a TR&D on my old car and loved it, had a custom 3 inch on my GSX(has to go back stock cause of emissions) and worked just the same. Like i said before a 3 inch pipe is a 3 inch pipe. You don't prefer one type of drinking straw over another, cause no matter what they all work the same. But I loved the look of my Thermal

Just check out the parts catalog on this site. You'll be able to compare prices easily using that. For exhaust, you really don't need an APEXi or some high priced system where all you're paying for is the name. www.rnrracing.com probably has the lowest prices. You can get everything you need there, exhaust, intercooler, gauges, turbos, everything. My buddy runs his turboback on his evo, it sounds so sick now that Ryan uses magnaflow mufflers on his systems. Besides all the electronics and gauges, you really don't need to pay a lot of money for the name brand parts. There are so many DSM vendors who make parts in house and sell them for much less, and usually their parts are better performing then the big name brand parts. Just check out the tuning guide and parts catalog on here, it should help you out a little with your search for parts.

from the looks of it, the meet will be 3/13?? if thats the day, i can't make it, i'm goin to a dyno day on the 13th in Kennett, PA. but keep me posted, i'd like to meet everyone!

aint no thang but a chicken wang. Also check out the classifieds section of this site, and also www.dsmtrader.com there's lots of used/new parts on there that sell below normal cost. Thermal's exhaust is definately nice, but it also necks down to like 2.5" at the cat. So you have to cut it, buy a new flange, and weld that on once u get the rest of the 3" exhaust on your car. I say just get the RnR exhaust, you will not be disappointed. I know him personally, he makes all my stuff for my cars, and for all my friends. Here is a pic of his exhaust on my bois evo, its very nice and sounds awesome.
