Can someone please help me. I just replaced my 02 sensor yesterday. So before I started the car up, I removed the fuse for the ECU so I could reset it. When I started the car up, my lights came on and my horn just went off and wouldnt stop. So I removed the horn fuse. I started it up again and everything seemed to be going fine but then I realized that my power windows, locks and heat weren't working! My radio also had the word "Code" appear on the LCD screen but I was expecting that. My friend who was with me told me that the car needs to learn everything again so that it's normal and after a while everything will come back...Sure enough everything. I tooik the car for a drive and then shut it off but then I realized that my lights stayed on! They wouldn't shut off. I pulled the fuse for the headlights and then put it back in. Then my cars alarm armed itself. I pressed the remote to unlock the car and the lights then came on by themselves!

What the hell is going on here! My friend thinks it has something to do with my alarm which is screwed into my battery terminal. But the alarm (a Viper) came with the car when I bought it! Did I blow a fuse or anything? Hopefully someone can please help me.

I should also note that when trying to take the lower heat shield off, I banged it against the alternator twice (by accident) and sparks shot out. Could that have blown something? thanks again everybody.

I have a question about this, because I have been having the same problem intermittently. If it was a bad fuse or fusible link, would the problem go away and come back? That is, can these be "bad" in such a way that they work sometimes but not other times?

I have been having this problem intermittently for some time, but it seems to have finally become permanent. Things that don't have power:
-radio
-heat
-front/rear defrost
-locks
-all interior lights EXCEPT gauges

-headlights will turn ON, but will not turn OFF until the fusible link for the lights is pulled
-when the headlights are turned on, the horn goes off and will not stop until the fuse (fusible link) is removed.

I'm looking through the electrical diagrams and am not making heads nor tails of them. Does anyone at least have a suggestion to point me in the right direction?

The horn problem may be the theft alarm activating due to a malfunction of the little button that pops out when you open up your door that turns your floor lights on. Pull these switches out and clean/inspect them. The above link is good for the headlight problem. If it doesn't help there are only 2 things that can make the headlights stay on. A stuck (bad) headlight relay or an unintentional ground in the wire that connects to the non-battery side of the coil inside the headlight relay (pin 3 on relay). This side is connected to ground by the column switch to activate the headlight relay. But perhaps your shorting of the alternator melted this wire to a ground wire (thus activating the relay). If you pull the headlight relay and measure resistance from this pin to ground and it is 0, that is your problem. In that case, pull the engine fusebox and look under it for melted wires.

Merry Christmas,
Sounds like you might have damaged your ECU when you shorted the B+ terminal of the alt. to ground, that's why they strongly suggest that you disconnect the battery before working on the car.
swap in your friends ECU & see what happens, disconnect the batt first, I put a wing nut on my neg batt terminal to make it easy..

Having been through a melted wiring episode of my own, I was surprised by exactly how much stuff can short and melt and the car still NOT have problems that bad. I'd seriously consider pulling and inspecting the wiring harness, starting at the fusebox and working back. You may have melted some things together... A lot of those devices are not ECU controlled. You *may* have damaged the ECU, but I would NOT put another one in until I was sure I wouldn't fry it...

You just discribed my car 2 months ago. headlight on horn went off, headlights wouldnt go off, nothing seemed to work. Go in the fuse box under your hood and look for the fuse label that says alternator. you will need to actually unbolt it as it has two screws in the sides but you should be able to tell if its good or bad without taking it out. 10 bux says shes blown :thumb: If not that then just call me a jackass :p
