Venice,
i know every1 says dont post about "what turbo should i get?" or whatever, but im aiming for 400whp, and right now i think that a 50 trim is the best setup for that goal in my FWD, but will a 20G flow enough to make that kind of power? where does full boost kick in on a 20G? i wanna keep it simple, and keep my manifold and o2 housing and all that shiet, but if 50 trim is the only way to get enough pull to hit 400whp and still have enough lag to keep my FWD streetable, then i guess ill just keep saving my pennies to get that, but i was thinking maybe a 20G would be an alright alternative? where does the 20G run outta power? how efficient is it? any help would be good, i got cash to get injectors and AFC now, and turbo will be VERY soon if im going 20G, a little longer obviously if i need to go with 50 trim. also, how could i run an external WG? would i need a new manifold? or would internally gated be ok if i port the hell outta the flapper? thanks ppl, hopefully yall will help me get this figured out so i can move on and get some shit ordered... and also, 550s or 660s with a 20G?

The 20g on my 1g kicks a$$. I have the tdo5 20g on my 1g AWD. The thing hits full boost around 3500 RPM. I'm running about 18 lbs. with 680 injectors, AFC, 255 Walbro, a 34mm internal w/g and a stock motor. I haven't dynoed it just yet but Mike Humls 20g put down around 361hp on a fully built motor. So it's pretty close to your 400hp range. If you want any more info. I'll try to help ya out. IM and we can chat. We offer a 2g20g that is a direct bolt on for the 2g if you are intrested in getting a 20g. Check it out on our website.

did some reading and talked to Candela, who knows A HELL OF ALOT about these damn cars... so my next question is, Where is the best place to find a 20G? i want a good turbo, but im thinkin maybe i should find a reputable place to get a used one, good idea or bad idea?

I say get a new one but that's just me. Check out slowboy racing they've got a good deal on a 20g that's a direct bolt on for a 2g. They're definitly a reputable dealer. I personally just bought a few grand worth of stuff from them. For the most part my experience with them was really good. There are alot of other dealers that are reputable to though. If your going 20g you definitly want at least 660's.

I love my 20G :)
Full boost comes in around 3500 as someone else stated earlier. I bought mine from Mike Welch, the owner of Road Race. He dynoed his at 341whp but that was only on 16psi with pump gas. I think that it is good for close to 400whp, but thats about its max. The 50trim might do it a little easier, but the 20G is very capable. I was checking out times a while ago and I saw a FWD that ran high 11's on a 20G with no nitrous. I am sure it was running slicks and crap but still. I am planning for mid 12's on my FWD when I'm done with it. I recommend it, I am very happy with the overall performance of the turbo. It's got good power, but not too laggy. Like I mentoined earlier, I hit 16psi at about 3500, and apparently with cams (which gives a bit more lag) you can still hit 20psi by under 4k. I like mine alot and might be able to answer some questions for you. You can PM me anytime here or reach me on AIM at: SoCaliEclipse . Also, for the injectors, you DEFINATELY want 660's or bigger. I would say that you want those for any turbo if you plan to run 400whp, but its just a safety net so that you can have a bit more flexibility with your tuning. Good luck man, and my name is Brian if you have any more questions, take care.

Are you running an internal or external WG? I have a 97 gst and would love to hear about your setup!

I am internal WG. I have a 34mm flapper, but might recommend the 38 if you can get it but if not, the 34 is still fine.......you can reach me at SoCaliEclipse on AIM most of the time, but if it gets sent to my cell phone I will get back to you ASAP. But you can ask away with your questions online :thumb: talk to you soon bro!

Brian

Brian, don't you have problems with the internal getting blown open under high boost? It seems that every time I hear of a 20G w/internal, people always complain of boost spikes and inability to hold high boost.

I havent experienced such problems yet. Also, I dont get spike because I have a Profec-B and it opens pretty quick. About the high boost levels...I am only at 16psi right now so I couldnt tell you about that, but I will keep you all posted when i get my injectors and tuning and I'll let you know what I think. If it has issues, I will just go full garret 57trim so its no big deal :thumb:

My 20g on my daily car made 361 WHP and 322 ft/ lbs on pump gas at 21 psi with no issues. The car has a built bottom end and a stock cam head and intake manifold.

The right 20g can easily make 400 WHP. Mine is also an internal gate. Makes for a fun daily street car!

Cams, and some more tuning she would be a 400 WHP turbo.

Kevin J... How is my tdo6h turbine wheel 20g doing for you?

Regards

Mike huml

I am on my way to building this up for my car. I am a long way behind but it will get done eventually. Thanks for the reply. I am thinking of going with the 2g20g from SBR or maybe even the GT10.

I haven't goten that far along on my PROJECT yet!

so is 34mm internal good enough to control creep on a TD06 20G? because im pretty sure thats what im going to go with, i guess ill go with SBR, most people say thats where ill get the best deal, but if somebody knows a better site, let me know. i also need to know if i can run that turbo on just an AFC and stock injectors, if i keep the boost down. will i be safe runnin stock injectors and like 15psi? i have a walbro255 installed now, and i am getting an AFC this week, so if ill be ok with those and a 20G, ill probably order the turbo this week or next. let me know guys, thanks

We talked about this already

You will be fine with a fuel pump and afc as long as you dont go nuts with the boost and dont be an idiot about it. It isn't the OPTIMAL setup, but it will be fine until you can get injectors (plan on 660's or larger to take advantage of your turbo). I am not sure if the TD06 will be different from the TD05h cause i have the 05, but I think it shouldnt make a big difference when it comes to that....good luck man

Brian

so come on people, let me know if AFC and 20G without injectors will be ok. i need a few more people to make sure this is good to go so i dont have to worry about ####in anything up, let me know guyz, peace

Injectors.
Fuel pump.
Fuel control.

Then buy your 20g.

good call Lando, i figured that was the best idea, but SoCaliEclipse told me that injectors wouldnt be needed if i kept the boost down, thats why i asked for some other ppls $.02, thanks bro

In a way he is correct....but I suggest a MINIMUM of a whinebro pump, 550s and a AFC. I am currently running 550s on my 20g at 20psi, and am in need of an upgrade IMO.

I am friends with Mike, the owner, of Road Race. I bought my 20G from him. Here is what he told me...
You CAN run a 20G on stock injectors, but 1. dont plan on turning the boost past 16psi on a rewired walbro 255 and 2. dont plan on keeping it that way for very long.

My 20G is working fine on stock injectors, but I can tell that it could be running better with 660's which is what I am planning on getting soon.

Brian

Socal.....If I read your profile correctly....are you still using the stock sidemount IC? If so, any problems with it heat soaking with the 20G

Yeah I am stock SMIC and yeah, I heat soak after like 2 runs at best...LOL
I got such a good deal on the turbo I would have been a moron not to get it. So I deal with that crap, but FMIC and injectors are coming in as soon as I start my new job :)
