I searched and read all threads for cracked transmission and a few others and came up empty handed. My problem is that I was leaking a ton of transmission fluid and I thought it may have been a loose drain plug. Upon checking that, I noticed it wasn't the drain plug that was leaking, it was 2 cracks or tears on the far passenger side of the transmission. The cracks are round which makes me think that they were caused from something spinning in the transmission. My question is why did this happen? For starters, my transfer case is shot and when it went, I was traveling about 20mph and then drove the car about 100 feet to my driveway(transfer case didn't lock up). The only other cause I can think of for the transmission cracks is crankwalk. The crank hasn't walked yet but I do/did have one of the tell tale signs of of dreaded crankwalk, when you depress the clutch and the car is in gear, rpms drop because of flywheel engagement(there is 116,000 miles on the car). I have attached a pic of the cracks, might be a little hard to see but they are there. I just need some help determining what to do now. 6-bolt swap, new tranny and transfer case or something else?

Its kinda hard to tell where the cracks are,
but regardless you need a new case if that one is jacked up too bad.
POSSIBLY you might be able to weld it up, but since its cracked its toast.
Lets get some pics of the inside, to see what cracked it!

I circled the big crack in red. Also the cracks are located on the far passenger side of the tranny but I am not sure of the correct name for it. It is certainly a plate or cover of some sort that can be removed and replaced but I am not sure why its cracked. I will take a few more pics sunday and get those up here. Thanks again.

If it is the nuts, would it be possible to have the cover welded because I have a feeling that finding one of those covers without buying the entire transmission would be next to impossible but I am going to try.

You could weld it. Make sure that the person welding it is very experienced and has a tig welder. Arc welding and mig welding have a tendancy to get objects very hot very fast and can cause them to warp, in effect causing you headaches trying to make it seal again.
Then again it may be easier to get a cover off another transmission. Im not exactly what years/transmissions will work (turbo and non-turbo manuals that is) but I'm sure there is a wiseman willing to get you that info :thumb: I'm not wise :( I work too dang much :`(
