This is on a 1997 gsx with a 1g throttle body. I was having some idle issues and since it's getting to be warm out I decided it would be ok to put the block off plate on the throttle body that eliminates the entire bottom half. I installed it but I'm curious as to what I need to do with the isc plug. Will I have a CEL if I just have the plug hanging down not plugging into anything, or do I need to leave the ISC plugged into the plug and just let that hang from the plug?

Nope. Pull the ISC/FIAV out of the engine bay and leave the plug dangling there by itself.

My car has been like this for months, and aside from iffy cold starts, no problems at all.

There a bit of difference between 1G and 2G ECUs as far as diagnostic checking. The fact that your 1G doesn't throw a code doesn't mean a 2G won't.

If I forget to plug mine back in I will get an 'idle control' CEL eventually. If you have DSMLink you can disable it, otherwise I'd just leave it plugged in.

Update:

Initially the car wouldn't start after I did this with the biss all the way in. I backed it out a little over half way and it started but idled very rough and still too low. Now I took the throttle stop screw and tightened it so the plate is roughly 5% open to bring my idle to around 1000 rpm which is what the car is chipped for. I then reset the tps and ips so the car knows it's in idle mode in this position. It seems to work fine I just want to make sure it won't mess anything up.

Also, will the Biss still really affect idle? I know before it would change idle speed but after a while the iac would compensate for it and bring it back to normal idle. Obviously this can't happen anymore, so can I basically adjust the idle to whereever I want and the ecu can do nothing to try and change it again other than move around my hanging isc which wouldn't affect it?

I drove the car yesterday and what a pain in the ass it is until it's warmed up. I guess that was expected, but it was a lot worse than I though. Anything I can do to help it run a little better on a cold start? If not then I'm going to try and find a good working 1g throttle body somewhere.

I had a 1200-1300 idle before (by accident,) but cold starts were much easier.

:p

yeah, hook the faiv back up, thats what its for....

Where can I get a block-off plate for the entire lower half of the throttle body, and how can i just remove the isc without affecting my idle?

Sounds to me like you weren't grounding out the ecu before messing with the Biss. This can and will cause the ecu to learn what you've done and compensate to get it back to what it thinks it should be.

I did the block off plate, I just let it unplugged. I takes about 5 minutes of driving or idleing before it idles like a kitten. I have MAFPRO, once it's warmed up I can idle it at 650rpms but I idle it at 850.
