So i had to do the first oil chane in my evo and i used a wix filter, someone said that you could only use mitsubishi filters, i didn't think anything of it, well now i am down to about a quart of oil, i drove it twice and had it parked for 3 days and it go that low! I looked under the car and sure enough oil is leaking out of the oil filter. Does anyone know why i was told to only use mitsubishi filters? Why didn't the wix filter seal? It was put on hand tight, I always use wix filters on my talon, and i always use to use them on my VR4. anyways if anyone knows anything about this please let me know. Thanks

Who cares what the reason is (meaning, you shouldn't). Just get an OEM filter on there fast.

For what reason? There are many other filters besides OEM that are perfect for our cars and Evos. Double check the filter and make sure it is still tight.

Ummm, because the OEM filter is "guaranteed" to fit properly. It is practically impossible for the OEM filter to not fit. An OEM filter will work if it is properly installed. That was my point. And yes, he should re-check the way the filter was installed.

Mitsu uses good oil filters. They're not junk. Reason why you were told to use a Mitsubishi oil filter on your Mitsubishi Evolution is because it is a Mitsubishi. Aftermarket companies may have the thread pitch wrong, or the wrong size diameter.
For future references, www.evotuners.net is for all your evo needs ;)

These oil filters are better than most of the aftermarket filters and they only cost $5 from the dealership for the DSM oil filters. I would spend that same amount for an aftermarket filter. Thei Mitsu Oil Filters are designed to run better with the turbo systems oil flow.

I'm not saying that the OEM filters are bad by any means, there are just a ton of alternatives to using an OEM. I've run Purolator, k&n, and mobil 1 filters and I've never had any fitment issues.

Ok here is the problem with WIX filters. For the EVO the OEM filter has a valve in the filter, while the WIX doesn't. I used to work at a shop and we had many WIX filters come back for them being faulty.

Thanks for the help, I am going to call the dealer and order a few filters, the thing that sucks about where i live is that the nearest mitsubishi dealer is about 2 hours away. It sucks!

The old oil filter gasket may still be on the car and, therefore, the new gasket cannot seal properly. That's my guess anyway.

Wix is one of the best companies around. They are the same people who make the Napa Gold filters and they make alot of filters for the manufacturers but their name gets wiped off in favor of the manufacturers name. I would be willing to guess that the Mitsu filter IS a Wix filter in the end.

exactly, there are very few oil filter manufacturers but many companies sell them with their name on them. most brands of oil filters come from the same manufacturer and are identical.
