I have a 95 Eagle Talon TSI AWD turbo.

The manual says that the recommended oil is 5w-30 or 10w-30.

I have friends that use 20w-50 valvoline racing oil.

I don't know what the best oil to use is. Please let me know. Thanks :talon:

I just switched to mobil1 15w50 synthetic and love it. No offense, but if you do a search you will find plenty of answers (vfaq.com has an engine fluid bible or something like that) on this site. That way you will get plenty of answers faster than waiting for people to reply.

20w50 seems super thick, but hey, I'm not that far from it with my 15w50, so who am I to talk.

Go ahead and try the thicker stuff if you want, just make sure you switch to thinner in the winter.

Hope that helps somewhat.

yes i know that u guys use waaaay thick oil to get rid of lifter tick but i wouldn't do that. You should stay with the manufactures reccomondations. Go with either 5w30 or 10w30 valvoline, and if you have more than 75k try valvoline max life, or if you have more $$ to spend go with mobil 1 same weights

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w30. Looking at the charts for what is recommended, 10w30 looked to be the best overall.

Mobil1 Synthetic 5w30 (what I use) or if you have it like that, go with Royal Purple 5w30. I have never heard a bad word about Royal Purple.

5w-30 for winter, 10w-30 for summer..castrol syntec.

Is 5w-30 really necessary for winter, since 10w-30 covers the low range temperatures, as well?

I actually just changed all the lifters out for 3rd gen ones, and that is the ultimate fix for lifter tick. Thank god it's gone!!!

As you see, so many people are using so many different kinds for so many different reasons that the conclusion can be reached that it just isn't crucial. Modern oils are miracle liquids. Thin oil gets into places easier. Thicker oils appeals to the intuition because it'll be more "cushion".

Within reason, it's not an issue. The brand doesn't matter, real or synthetic doesn't matter, even change interval is no long a point of panic.

Lots and lots of threads about this, and many oil sites on the web. Just be careful to not be convinced by the stories you hear from Amsoil dealers.

Go with whatever one you think is best. For all practical purposes it will be.

Nice way to sum it up 'D', that actually helped me gain a little "who the hell really knows" attitude towards all the crap out there. Seriously, thanks.
