Front 2G 3000gt VR-4 Brakes are HUGE: 4 piston calipers with 12.36" rotors. I think all dsms can install them for only $365. That includes the calipers, cross drilled/slotted rotors, and brackets. pads are only about $40.

3000gt SL brakes are the same as us, right? well these 2g vr4 conversion brackets should bolt right in:

http://www.electronicauto.com/products/2gttbrakeconversion/brackets.htm

and you can buy the 2g vr4 calipers for only $50 each at autozone:

autozone has a core charge, but i know that if you give them your stock calipers they won't know the difference.

and you can buy cross drilled and slotted rotors for $90 for a pair on ebay.

you WILL have to get bigger rims. these calipers won't fit stock eclipse rims, and sometimes wont even fit some aftermarket wheels

I've got a '90 awd, so this is a huge upgrade for my crappy front brakes... any thoughts?

:thumb:

I've heard of a couple people doing this. I think their front rotors are 11.5" which is a big improvement.

if i remeber right the VR4 brakes are too big, and the calipers are too wide. From what I know the SL was the only ones that work

The calipers posted in the Autozone link are the early VR4 calipers, which are the same calipers used on FWD 3kGTs and 92+ AWD DSMs.

The brackets are designed for the 4-pot fixed calipers found on later VR4s.

Putting late AWD DSM brakes on an early/FWD DSM is still a significant upgrade though.

1st of all, autozone has the 2g vr4 brakes. and 1g vr4 brake ARE an improvemant over the SL. Ive had a 3000gt and the sl brakes are small compared to 1st and 2nd gen vr4s

these brackets will work with either 1g vr4 calipers and 2g vr4 calipers. and both are bigger than any stock eclipse...

I'm wrong - I thought the early VR4s had 2-pot sliding calipers.

Either way, the calipers in the Autozone link are described as 2 piston near the bottom, the calipers pictured with the brackets are 4 piston.

my eyebrows are frowning...............

if you put VR4 brakes onto an SL it wont work because the rims wont clear it,

wouldnt the same issue come up that you would need bigger rims.

I think that's a given...there's no way that 2g vr4 calipers will fit stock rims. most people upgrade anyway, i know i will.

I've talked to the people at Mach V about doing the 3000GT VR4 4-Piston big brake swap.

It won't work because the calipers are too wide, as originally suggested by badboy.

The N/A 3000GT/Stealth brakes will work (They're supposed to bolt right in), but you need to upgrade to the matching bigger rotor (as well as the corresponding pads). The site that supplies the brackets states that you can use the N/A Rotor with the 3000GT VR4 4 Piston Calipers, but it will be a "tight fit". I'm not quite sure what that means for us AWD T/E/L drivers ... But I'm not funded enough to take a gamble on this. If it's going to be a tight fit on an N/A 3000GT, then I don't think it will work for 1G AWD (or 2G AWD) T/E/Ls.

If anyone has done the 4-Piston 3000GT VR4 swap on a >92 AWD DSM, please enlighten us, but as far as I know, I don't think it will work ...

it's a tight fit with the STOCK rims, but i dont see any reason why the vr4 brakes won't fit as long as you upgrade to wheels that clear them...

someone on this site has done the 4 pistons vr4 brakes on a 90-91 awd dsm. i have been talking to him and i plan on doing the same. he is in the process of making the brakets too. :thumb: as far as clearing the rims i think he used wheel spacers. i will see if i can get him to post in here.

I have right now working on my car 1993 3000 GT vr-4 (thats TT) 4 piston calipers on my car. When testing them I first purchased 11.7" 91 3000gt vr-4 rotors because they were cheap. I then redesigned my adaptor bracket and am now using a 13" rotor.

As for clearing the rim, any 17" wheel will clear the outside of the caliper BUT.... you need wheel spacers. I used 25mm spacers from stangsuspention.com. I got a pair for the rear too because they look so cool. You can either get H&R or Eiboch. I love the look of how damn wide my car is now (91 tsi awd btw)

The brackets were custom machined by myself, dont ask me to make you any. It will shortly be a product available when my time is not so tight and the calipers are used for another few months or so with no problems. I just got them working last month.

I'll post pics later, I just wanted you all to know it is possible to use them. The bracket made to fit the caliper to the knuckle will determine which size rotor you can use because you have to design the bracket to sit the caliper in or out from the center of the spindle to maximize rotor/pad contact. The rotors are simply upgraded ones from brembo that had similar dimentions to the stock 3000gt rotor.

Or you can buy wheels that have a lower offset. example: Rims with 50mm offset with a 20mm wheel spacer is the same a set of rims with 30mm offset...i think

you also have the 1g calipers which are smaller than the 2g

I am not exactly sure on the year of my calipers, Ill have to confirm this with some of you when I get pics. All I know is they have "Mitsubishi" on them in the casting in raised leters. You can use what ever size rotor you want, 11.7", 12", 12.5", 13" it all depends on how the adaptor bracket is designed.

those are the 2g calipers. here is a link of that bracket that was telling you about robby i am aware that it is for a evo but its from rally art so maybe they make one for our cars

Thats awesome man!

If your all wondering about this link, I mentioned to wishihadatalon that my pedal is a litle mushy (just a little) now that these calipers are on. I bled them many times and still not as firm as I believe they should be. I was about to try another master cylender when he told me about this product. I'm gonna look into my M/C movement

So I have 2g calipers eh? what year did 2g 3000gt's start?
