Hey now that it is summer time I need ta change the oil what brands / type should I use???I know this is basic sorryOMG

Mobil 1 - Full Synthetic - 10w40
Mobil 1 - Oil filter or OEM oil filter, or you can use a 1g oil filter.. its larger.

If you're not an automatic transmission equipped car then consider changing your tranny fluid also. Pennzoil (sp) syncromesh is my fluid of choice for this task tho.

If yah need anything else just ask away!

Modern motor oils are now at such high level of quality that none are anywhere near being at the limits of their capabilities in street (and even most racing) applications.

Use whichever one you like best. As long as it's a brand you've heard of, it'll be fine. There's no need for synthetics, they're just that much "better" than normal oils- which are already overkill.

Same goes for filters. Once an engine gets to the point that it's shedding enough metal that a filter is going to help, it's already on the grease-slope to hell. Use whatever brand you like. Wix is reported to be best, but they make many for other companies, so you may wind up with theirs without knowing about it. Despite the faithful who stick with a Mitsubishi filter, there's no guessing who they hired to make this week's batch- and you probably wouldn't be able to pronounce their name anyway.

me personally I like to use Royal Purple 10w30. For the Filter I use the Fram Sure Grip. Also, I just recently changed from Lucas Tranny fluid to BG Syncroshift and OMG is thera HUUUUUUGE difference in shifting. Especially in cold weather....like chitown...

amen defiant. I work at an auto parts store and I hear good and bad things about every oil and filter out their. Not necessarily because they are bad or good its mostly the person has a good or bad experience with their motor and the first thing they think of is that they change the oil most often so that must be what caused it. I use my house brand of oil and filter from work and haven't had a problem yet. Sorry for long post. :D

OK. I'm just relaying information on what other people have experienced from a certain filter. And it's not just one person. If you want to use it, by all means, go right ahead. No one is stopping you. I don't have the time or the need to experiment with cheap filters. I'd rather spend a few more dollars knowing I'm getting a quality filter. Again, it's your motor. If you want to use cheap parts, go right ahead.

To answer your question, I recommend 10W-30 for summer and 5W-30 for winter. I also recommend Castrol Syntec (10W-30 or 5W-30).

This is the following configurations I have ran on my DSM in the short year and a half I've had it, all with the so-called special Mitsubishi Oil Filter. Please note I do NOT normally change my oil this much..half the time it had to be replaced (1 for oil leak, and another for lifter replacement)

Castrol GTX Motor Oil 5W-30 (For Winter)
Pennzoil 5W-30 (For Winter)
Quakerstate Full Synthetic 10W-30 w/ Lucas Additive (For Summer)
Supertech Full Synthetic 5W-30 w/ Valvoline Engine Additive (For Winter)
Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 (For Winter)
Castrol Syntec (Full Synthetic) 10W-30 w/ Lucas Oil Stabilizer (For Summer)

Out of all these I have tried Castrol Syntec (Full Synthetic) is my favorite, it considerably made my motor more quiet and it purs like a kitten. The Lucas Additive helps as well.

The infamous Mobil 1 recommendation on this board only served to make my motor/lifters noisy as hell.

Castrol Syntec 5/10W-30 is 100% supported by me, and I will probably continue to use this brand when I am not on a tight budget. IF I'm on a budget I usually just use Supertech 5/10W-30 Full Synthetic.

But for the most part, Motor oil brands don't really matter.

So I suppose the content in those links that you posted is imaginary.
The information may be fully accurate and valid for that moment in time that the research was done. But the makers of oils and oil filters -as well as everything else we buy in contemporary times- usually bid out a contract to have a product (and its components) made. If you can find your way upstream to the actual maker (such as, Wix ["I've 'heard'"]), you might find the same filter as was tested... unless the maker's supplier changed a specification.

We're in a world far too dynamic to hope for finding something mentioned in a test. Then there's the specifics of your engine and your driving. Comparisons and criticisms are interesting, but they're of no more real-world value than the Consumer Reports discovery that you can loop a Samurai if you try hard enough.

Oh a couple additional comments...

Price does NOT indicate quality. There are plenty of cheap equivs. that function just as well as the brandname product. For example, paying for a K&N Filter was about $10 to $15 more dollars than buying a no-name cleanable filter. They function just the same I feel no difference between the two. The reason I replaced the K&N was because it was beaten to death somehow.

Anywho, spending more money doesn't mean you get better quality.
