92 AWD 5-speed. I put in an ACT 2100. When I put it in reverse, it goes forward. To make sure I was in reverse, I turned off the car, put it in 4th, and then moved it over to where it was definitely in gear in the reverse position. But it still went forward. What did I do wrong?

Did you try putting it in 1st to see if it would go backward? I think you put your shift cables on the wrong way. I dont know how but thats the only thing you couldve done to get it to do that. IMHO

PS on second thought 92awd is probably more correct than I

mine use to do that too, but all it was, was my mbc had it fallen off from where I had it mounted at, and fell right on the top of the transmission where all the cables where connected to the transmission. Moved that and my problem was cured.

Check all you shifting cables and make sure their isn't anything blocking it.

First through 4th work normally. I can't get into 5th or reverse.

There is nothing blocking the cables. They can get 1st through 4th just fine, but I can't get over enough to get into 5th or reverse. Is there another place they could be caught up? (Like near the shifter itself).

Sounds like to might have bent the shift cable bracket on the tranny. It is probably going into 4th, not reverse. Not enough travel to get the linkage into reverse with bent bracket

It doesn't look bent. How could that get bent? Maybe banging it during reinstall or something?

take your center counsel out, pull of the shift rail selector cable(the one that moves when the shifter is moved left and right) off from the shifter assy. Go under the hood and manually put the trans in 5th or rev. Go back to the shifter assy and adjust the cable length until it lines up with the same peg you took it off from. Reinstall cable and make sure you can get all the gears. If there isn't enough adjustment, something is bent.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for! :thumb:
