  1. DG suspension setup for street

What helper springs did you go with?
  2. Painting Engine Parts

I painted my valve cover with brake caliper paint. It has held up great. Much better than the high temp engine enamel I have used in the past.
  3. Best Gear oil for NEW tranny?

If you have access to both the MR fluid and the older mitsu fluid what would you reccommend Jack? This is going in an original 110k AWD tranny that will be coming to you next spring! Thanks.
  4. Good lord gas=1.89 a gal!

I don't think anybody "deserves" anything really. Americans don't deserve cheaper gas and starving people in Africa don't deserve our corn. If people choose to provide excess food to those in need I think that's great...but it also their choice. If OPEC decides to sell us oil cheaper then I...
  5. Good lord gas=1.89 a gal!

    That's a matter of opinion.
  6. Good lord gas=1.89 a gal!

    My point exactly!
  7. Compression testing at high altitude

You should also physically pull the covers and visually check the timing marks.
  8. Good lord gas=1.89 a gal!

I'm not disagreeing with you that gas costs more in Europe. It does, and has for a long time. It's not the alarming "$9/gal" that you see people posting. More like $6/gal. If we heard that in 2004 it would be alarming....now it's only $1.40 more than we pay now. As far as tax, it's around...
  9. Good lord gas=1.89 a gal!

Actually, I've been traveling to Europe for over 10 years and live for months at a time. And YOU are missing the point. It's stupid to say gas cos X amount in dollars in Europe. They don't use dollars in Europe as I'm sure you know. As the dollar has devalued in the US the price of bread...
  10. Good lord gas=1.89 a gal!

I swear if gas gets to $2.00 a gallon I'm walking! Oh, wait...Also the whole "we have it so good compared to Germany" is stupid. For one thing, they don't buy gas in Dollars, they buy it in Euros. The current exchange rate doesn't matter to Hubert when he is filling his tank. Why is that...
  11. Compression testing at high altitude

125 in Colorado is fine. I am up in Dillon (9500') and get 123-125 all around. As far as the clicking and misfire situation goes I would pull the upper timing cover and make sure the belt hasn't skipped a tooth. You may have skipped one tooth and been lucky enough to not damage any valves.
  12. Dying / Failing Clear Coat [Merged 7-8] cote clearcoat paint dead flaking peeling rot

Your friend with the Evo has single stage paint. So no clear coat. SS paints can fade and be brought back to life with no ill effects. Since you have a Base Coat/Clear Coat paint it doesn't fade, it fails. CC failure is not fixable. Once it starts the damage has been done. A repaint is...
  13. Rally compilation

Wow, that is awesome! Some of the best DSM footage I have ever seen.
  14. 20G-6SL2 Street/Strip Turbocharger

    Yeah, that looks awesome!
  15. Custom front steel bumper?

Chris, if you would like I can get you in contact with a friend of mine that is a fabicator. He builds pro-stock cars for V. Gaines in Denver now. He's a super talented guy and used to work for RJ Race Cars in Illinois before he moved back here. I want to say he's built something like 40 pro...
  16. corner balance, can you feel a difference?

I run JIC coilovers that I ran for a couple months. I then corner balanced them and couldn't *feel* a difference.
  17. Reupolstered My 2g Door Panels

WOW. What an improvement. I hate the 2g interiors cheap feel. I have wanted to do something similar for a couple years but never do it. Anyway, maybe this will give me the motivation. Nice work!
  18. Compression help...

Sure sounds like the HG to me. Possible it let go around a water jacket and is letting coolant into the cylinder but not leaking compression out of that small area.
  19. I'm Calling Luda Out... To Race!

I think Mitch just wanted to make sure you don't have to shift the karts...because he's not so good at that.
  20. Full exterior prep advice

Best reply I have read in a long time! I'm not doing this or anything but hey-zues man, talk about a detailed reply!
  21. Want to run hard Vac lines?

Stainless braided line. Not brake line.
  22. Header Wrap [Merged 3-8] thermal DEI headers exhaust

Actually, Cool Tape works really well if you use it as it was intended. To reflect heat. A good use would be on a lower intercooler pipe that crosses right in front of the downpipe. And if you take a look under many race cars hoods, you will see heat shielding and tape and wrap galore. Heat...
  23. FP 1x cams?

You can run these on stock springs as long as you keep it under 7.5k. I have 1x's with Crower springs and a buddy of mine is running them with the stock springs. FP told him it was fine as long as he kept it under the stock rev limit (7.5k).
  24. arp headstud install help

One other thing that is VERY important. You need to clean the holes very well! You WILL get oil and dirt in there when you pull the head. Use some Q-tips to clean out in there. compressed air is also good once you have cleaned out all the oil and solids with Q-tips. Don't skip this step.
  25. 2nd O2 Sensor Delete

I would just get a bolt to put in there if it were me.
  26. Where I can get a set of REAR goodridge ss brake lines?

What makes you think it's the lines? Have you tried bleeding system? If you are getting fluid to bleed through the nipple then I don't see how a clogged line could be the problem. More likely it's a caliper that needs to be rebuilt.
  27. Tie Rod Washer Question

I couldn't get mine to seat correctly either. I just tightened it to spec and crushed it in there. This was about 5k ago and I have had no problems with it loosening.
  28. My First Road Racing event @ Streets of Willow Springs!

Thanks for all the info guys. I still have a couple weeks of work to do before the car will be ready. I need to get the coilovers on and get the alignment set.I also need to spend some more time tuning. It's really tough out here to tune on the roads! Not like Colorado where I can just...
  29. My First Road Racing event @ Streets of Willow Springs!

Great thread! Really nice writing and pics. I just moved out to cali. a couple weeks ago. I have my car pretty much ready to road race. I just need to throw on the JIC's that I bought last fall. I also might as well pick up some track day pads from TCE. I feel like I have been building...
  30. Dragracing around Orange County

    Well, I'd be in!
  31. Dragracing around Orange County

Thanks for the info. If anyone else has personal experience with anywhere down here that would great. Looks like California Speedway is the best. I'm not a big fan of the 1/8th mile tracks.
  32. Dragracing around Orange County

I just moved to Capo Beach and I was wondering where people from Orange County go to Dragrace. I have looked at some of the track pages but can't seem to find much info. So what I'm wondering is: 1. Where is the closest place for me to go? 2. What nights are open? Test and Tune nights and...
  33. DGI Chassis Tie Bar

I have had this bar for a few months now and figured I would give a review.Install: Super easy. Took me all of 20 minutes to do it. You basically pop off the plastic cover over the seat belt bolt and remove the bolt. Then put the end brackets in and bolt it down. Finally, you put the...
  34. Ball bearing PTE 50 trim

The comp. map is the same as a non BB 50 trim.
  35. just installed EVO3 GT turbo, here's a tip...

Haha. Classic! Yep, you are way to uninformed to buy XS power 16g GT knockoffs from dormroomracing.com. If only all DSM'ers could be so ignorant.I mean, does it really matter if you don't know anything about cars at all in this computer age? Apparently you can open a shop without...
  36. clutch just isn't right

It may be. That is just the stuff you should do first to find out what the problem is. For example: Low on clutch fluid? Maybe your master is leaking. Just go through and do all that little stuff and you'll find the problem pretty quick.
  37. clutch just isn't right

Start by checking you clutch fluid, bleeding the system, checking engagement point. If all that is good and you still have the problem. Sounds like the throw out bearing to me.
  38. EVO III GS-T Finally "done" and dyno'd... Nobody is knocking ! ?

On DSMLink the knock sensor is activated above about 2200rpms as a default. Not sure if it's the same running a stock ECU. You could always free rev to 2500 and then whack it just to be sure.
  39. Evo 3 16g

Unless it's WAY off the map I think most people put too much into the whole efficiency thing. Yes it will blow hotter air, but like I said, that's what your big intercooler is for. My old small 16g had a peak effieciency of 77% I think. Their is no way that it made more power than my E16g...
  40. Evo 3 16g

Those numbers show it going off the map to the right. The PR of 30psi. is still on the map vertically. The little red line on the map posted on the previous page is from Josh trapping a 118 with boost spikes to 30psi and settling at around 26psi. IIRC. Clearly he is not going off the right of...
  41. Evo 3 16g

The Evo8 has a twin scroll turbine housing which has nothing to do with the comp. map. Sure, the bigger turbine housing helps out the Evo guys but the E3 16g can still flow just what it says on the map. Which is about 42lb/min as Josh (ShapeGSX) has proven in real world testing. At 25psi. you...
  42. Evo 3 16g

The map is the same as for the Evo8. It's out there.
  43. Evo 8 rims, will they fit?

    nevermind......
  44. What is B16g Trim???

Trim is just the exducer divided by the inducer. So a 16g is about a 50 trim.
  45. 20g's, 18g's and 16g's....Questions...

Obviously YMMV as Shape has proven but the listed lb/min of some poular mitsu turbos and the To4E 50 trim are: Small 16g 34lb/min Big 16g 36lb/min Evo3 16g 42lb/min (from Forced Performance info) 20g 44lb/min To4E 50 trim 49lb/min Like I said, people will...
  46. What turbo is as big or bigger than the EVO III and never creeps?

Running a tubular O2 housing will do the trick. I run a re-routed unit so I don't have the noise of a dump but my E16g has no problems creeping. I also have just the stock flapper.
  47. 1G 1g rods/2g pistons HP Limit?

I have yet to EVER hear of a stock 4g63 bottom end letting go from overreving. The top end is a different story. Your main weakness in running the stock rods/pistons is going to be from detonation. Forged parts can take the abuse of pre-detonation better. If you have the car tuned well and...
  48. anyone run 235/45/17 tires on stock 97 gsx rims?

Avon Tech M500. Check out the tire rack site for reviews of this tire and tests of it. Tough to beat for the price.
  49. evo8 rims and tires

2gb GSX wheels weigh 25lbs. w/o tires....they are not light.
