EclipseOfTheHeart97
DSM Background
As a teen (circa 1995) looking for my first vehicle, I had my eyes on the Starion and Conquest as my dream car. Something about a 'hatchback' was burned into my DNA...possibly because my father owned a Chevette. His intention at the time was to buy a low cost/economic vehicle for service calls. He was an appliance technician, owned his own business, and the Chevette made more sense economically than a hungry V8 service van. It became part of the family..among other vehicles like a Pontiac "Mickey Thompson motor" GTO— Wheelies for days! We took it to drive-in movies, and watched the latest blockbusters with the Radio Shack upgraded sound system and custom speakers—best theater experience!
Dad then bought himself a newer 'hatchback', the Mitsubishi Eclipse GST in '97. Unfortunately with how much he worked, and old age kicking in, the Eclipse wasn't driven much. Years go by, and I don't have the heart to let this part of him go. Hence my username: Total Eclipse of the Heart (may sound cheesy to some- my wife helped me with the name).
Some of Dad's most valuable lessons in life were his technical/mechanical abilities. And I look forward to taking on this project to grieve, and let his memory and 'hatchback' DNA live on... I know he'd be proud if I can get this car driving the way he drove it—Balls to the wall!!.!
Appreciate any feedback on sourcing parts/mechanical tips.. would be great to connect with other Eclipse enthusiasts too.
