Heres how to build a basic leak down tester. It does not have a a guage but is still very useful to determine if your head gasket or valves are leaking as well as how bad your rings my be. It would be very simple to add a guage to this if you chose to do so.

Parts:
spark plug anti fouler (14mm type)
compressor hose fitting
copper pipe( with tread size to match compressor hose fitting)
jb weld (teflon tape optional)

All parts can be gotten from lowes and autozone.

Assemble your tester so it looks like this

The end that you connect the anti fouler to will need jb on the threads as they do not match but will screw together. the jb weld will eliminate any leaks.

The end you attach the hose fitting to can use teflon tape or jb weld. Ones permanent ones not. If you want to upgrade and add a gauge later on i would suggest teflon for now.

Let dry for 24 hrs, and your ready to go.
