Looking good! Isn't it kind of liberating cutting up your roof? It looks like you got it in the exact place I did, maybe a little more forward. I havn't gotten on tuners since last week and totally missed your post. My handle just touches the roof support along the windshield and as long as my hand isn't wrapped around it when opening, its good to go. Hurt like hell when I jammed it between the handle and roof...Lesson learned.
So the center of my car is very well ventilated now. If I lean over into the center I get a nice cool breeze. I'm thinking I should have installed it over my head. Otherwise I'll need to make a diverter to send some air my way, LOL.

The vent has a lip around the perimeter and is inserted from the inside of car, the lip can be bolted ,glued or rivetted.

Look also at the journal from1994 evolution11 rwd from Sweden, by KHracing, he has something similar on his car.
Ok thanks!

I have two co-driver's going with me to the next rallyx event and I took one of them out to the desert yesterday to get some seat time behind the wheel of my Eclipse. He's an Evo AutoX guy but needed to get used to dirt and FWD, LOL!

Also I put the AGX/EIbach's back on the rear which dropped it 3" and made it look much more normal! Took it off road for some testing and it felt pretty good. RallyX next weekend!

You should get a helmet that has an external air hook-up, then run a Hoover vacuum hose from the roof to the back of your helmet. LOL

Over your head may have created issues with helmet clearance. I know you are running an aftermarket seat but there is not a lot of room in these turds. Mine is center and you really do notice the airflow when driving on course.
Good choice on switching back to the eibachs/agx. Most of the needed dampening is going to be needed by the fronts anyways. Gotta keep those wheels planted.

I like the design, but if I ever do get a new helmet it will be an open face, which should give more ventilation in an of itself.

Very true with head clearance, especially if the vent is ever shut.

For those 1G AWD Rallyxers, I wonder if you would consider helping one of our members on DE figure out his suspension setup. I know some you guys in Colorado have experience with different AWD suspension, including the KSport Gravels. 1G AWD suspension discussion - DirtyEvo.com - The Evo and DSM Rally Forum!

hi my name is gary trying to set up my 98 gsx for rally. This build is going to try to race in south america. I am trying to find out if anyone can guide me to find the best suspension components. I am new to this but have time and tools. not really ready for engin mods yet, but any info is nice. At the moment im trying to find someone local in ny that builds full rollcages.

Grayguy, the first thing you want to do is really access if the 2g is the car for you. Depending on what racing series you are planning to race in, they may or may not allow new people to race awd turbos right off the bat. Rally America requires you to start in a fwd non turbo. NASA, does not care what you decide to start in.
Second, check out SpecialStage and Rally Anarchy - Don't Panic and read up on what stage rally really is all about. Also check out nasa rally university for some more basics about stage rally.
There isn't a lot of information about dsms in stage rally on this forum but it is out there. Specialstage and rallyanarchy are good places to start. JVAB is on anarchy and makes suspension components for many different platforms that are cheaper than the super high end stuff but still great quality. I have heard he can be a jerk sometimes and turn around is slow, but something to look into. Quality product if you're willing to wait.
As for the cage this is a map of North American cage builders. You need to know what series you plan to compete in so your cage is built to their specs. Even RA and NASA have different requirements.
Figure out what series is going to work for you(I do believe you said South America, I have no idea what series are down there), find there rules and go from there. Hope this helps, goodluck!

Nathan, check out this thread over on DI. This guy runs with us in m4 and designed this to direct air for his center vent onto him and his codriver. Says it works pretty good both at rx and on the stage.

On a completely separate note, goodluck to the guys going to the Nebraska National Challenge this weekend!
Anyone going to National Championship next month? Nathan? I bet you can give Aaron a run for his money in m2!

I would recommend going to some local Rallycross events in your area. You will most often find a few who stage rally. They can give you advice and places to have suspension work and fabrication. Plus, you can also some seat time.

There have been less than a handful of 2G rallycars in N America, ever. The rear suspension is terrible for rally.

Building a car here to take to S America is pretty crazy. I'm not on the cage builder map but do an occasional build just outside DC. Much cheaper labor in S America and you'll have someone there who knows the ruleset. Perhaps you'll need an FIA homolgated car which a DSM is not.

There is the Latin American Rally USA rallysprints held ~ 6 times a year at Summit Point West Virginia not far from DC. Mostly Latin American guys tearing up the woods and partying w/ their good food and music. Good time. They have a FaceBook page if interested.

I like what he did with his vent. I might do something similar.

I won't be able to make the SCCA Rallycross Nationals this year. Next year is a possibility depending on where it's held. Tulsa is a long drive but doable. I hear they are looking to move it next year though.

I raced at the Tucson RallyX yesterday and took another 1st place victory in Modified 2wd. There was some good competition in m2 at this event was well as the last! Just one more event left this year. In fact there were only 2 Mitsubishi's at the RallyX yet DirtyEvo.com members took home 1st in Modified 2wd, 1st in Modified 4wd, and fastest single individual lap!

Also I picked up a Sparco Rev seat for the DSM and will hopefully be removing the sunroof and installing a scoop over the vent before the next event in November. I'm also still debating pulling my front sway. I guess I'll just give it a try.

Nice work on the 1st place! Guess I better get some dirtyevo stickers to show up the dirtyimpreza guys.
The wife and I were thinking of going but decided we should do the nationals next year also. It's only like a 9 hour drive for us. Still quite a bit of money after entry and hotel though.
I had goodluck with no front sway bar in the sentra. Picked up a rear one for a higher trim lever model and liked the way it helped the car rotate.
Seat looks nice, I want to get one at some point. I bet that all aluminum one isn't too comfy getting bounced around and what not.

Thanks! Yes, you should get some decals! As cheap as they are, there's no excuse! :thumb: DirtyEvo Store. If you do get some, send me a pic and I'll add it to the member rides section of the store.

I've heard they don't want it in Tulsa again next year so we'll see where it goes (2013 RX National Championship). If it's too far away I'll go to a Colorado event instead. :D I drive 5 hours each way for each of the Tucson RallyX's but next year we are starting an El Paso RallyX series with the Pan Am SCCA. I'll save all that traveling back and forth for one big trip.

I think I will try disconnecting the FSB for the next event.

The seat was molded plastic and I had a pillow on the back for a little comfort. However there was zero lateral support and because of the pillow my head was like a foot away from the seat back. Not every safe in the event something goes wrong. Plus I got an unbelievable steal on this seat from a guy I rallyX with.

Something in the back of my head thought it was aluminum, guess plastic isn't too much better. Definitely sounds not too safe though. I love getting parts for a steal.
Our national event tends to be at the US truck driving school which tends to eat up tires. So be prepared to bring some snows or hope your rally tires survive with some tread left on them.
That's awesome that you got a new group started! I've got some cousins out in Texas, perhaps I shall let them know since they have asked several times about my car.
Now to purchase some stickers...

Hey guys, I just made a brand new interactive RallyX map on DirtyEvo and I thought it might be a helpful resource for you guys too. So far it has over 30 regions that host Rallycross events across the USA. This is great for people wanting to get into the sport and looking for the nearest location and also for those who have been rallyxing for a while and want to try out new programs surrounding them. If you see any regions I'm missing let me know so I can make it more thorough. Feel free to share it around, just make sure you give credit to DirtyEvo.com. Let me know get you think!

I'm selling my rallycross wheel/tire setup, 14" steelies with mastercraft glacier grip tires. They were good enough for 2nd place in the WDCR SCCA Rallycross championship! PM me for details.

Ditched the skidplate and rallytires to do a time attack. Was jacked up on rally suspension but more fun purposely hitting the curbing thru the 'S's.

Found that Mustang Cobra 17 inch wheels fit nicely.

I live in the country but really want a dsm... i had given up hope until I found this thread! with some of these rally mods i think i could get along fine on our rough gravel roads and the snow drifts we get out on the county roads. What would be a good set up that would give me that durability and capability of a rally dsm without loosing the daily driver element? what price range would i be looking at? i'm currently a Ford Escape owner but i'm wanting something faster and with better mpg's yet i still need to be able to get up my driveway in the snow... (typical bumpy, gravel farm house driveway) thought a rally style first or maybe second generation dsm might be my answer? any help would be great!

Where did you get those wheels, what car are they out off.?

Love your thread.
If you are interested in a rally tire setup, 95% of rally tires are 15". I got my 15x6 steelies off a ~1999 Galant. The tires are 205/65/15 Pirelli PZero gravel rally tires.

Definitely a 1g AWD and I'd go with 15" rims, nice winter tires, homemade mudflaps, and if your budget allows, KSport gravel coilovers (they will allow you to lift your DSM 1.5-2" over stock). Also setup an account on DirtyEvo.com - The Evo and DSM Rally Forum! , it's a growing site for offroad and rally enthusiasts for Mitsubishis.

@Shunter95
Another economical choice for wheels are the 15in steelies from a dodge caliber. They have a 67.1mm hub bore which is identical to the dsm. I have picked up multiple sets for very cheap as they are much more common than galant wheels. For daily driving in the country, I would suggest getting some snow tires to mount to the rims. I have purchased a set of rims for about $50 and snow tires off of craigslist for about $100.

Diamante 15 inch rims fit as do most Jeep rims which are way stronger than steelies.

I got lucky with my setup as well, the rims for $10 a piece from the u-pull it and all four Pirelli gravel tires for $100.

How much lift over stock were you able to get?
