I just saw this build and wow that is gorgeous. I love how everything flows and matches through the car down to the wastegate and calipers LOL just awesome.

Thanks! We're not even close to being started in that department yet though ;)

Harness is back in for final fitment, just need to loom it all and strap it down. Super pleased with how this came out!

Got a few things done tonight.
-Brake line to 3G master got cut, bent and re-flared to a double flare
-Installed front brake lines
-Ran and soldered the WBO2 in to run narrowband sim
-Dis-assembled cam sensor to powder coat

Lots of little annoying shit to knock out (lines, sensors, fittings, etc)

do you have any pictures of the fuse box, like where you put it? Did you splice it into the harness before the firewall? Any tips because I'm about to start on this kind of job as well.

It's where the passenger airbag was behind the cover. There really wasn't any "splicing" Plugs were deleted or moved inside. A comment I made to someone else that asked the same question "Best bet is to first spread the harness out good and label every connector from the firewall forward, don't skip any. Plan way ahead of time. If you're running a map sensor or a different cam sensor write it down so you can incorporate it as you go. The harness is actually a lot easier once you start seeing where things go. I did it one plug at a time and didn't move on until that plug was completely deleted or shortened and soldered/heat shrinked. Get yourself a good set of picks to de-pin them from the plugs in the cabin, good wire strippers, dykes, solder and gun. Have a good clean work area where you can spread it out and be comfortable and take notes along the way. It'll likely take you a few days to do and you don't want to forget where you were. I deleted what I needed to first, then put it back in the car and ran what I needed to the sensors and figured out how much I needed to shorten certain ones and how I wanted to route them. It's very time consuming, just be certain you know what you're removing. I'm completely confident in this harness knowing I took my time and triple checked everything. There's a ton you can move inside the cabin to clean things up too."

Got some lines and fittings tonight so we have some work to do this weekend with a bunch of plumbing

Had some issues bleeding the brakes as I wasn't getting any fluid to 2 calipers. Narrowed it down to the prop valve or master cylinder being the issue. Got a spare prop valve and sure enough the one we were using was done for. We did powder coat it so I believe the issue was the heat required to cure the powder. Got the new one cerakoted and all is good. Should be back down on the ground next week once we get fluids in the rear diff, tcase and trans.

Also ordered a Koyo half rad, FAL fan/shroud, Innovate oil/temp and innovate digital boost gauge.

Battery box all mounted. Got the wiring in today so I'll be tackling that next week.

Walbro 450 installed after destroying one of the o-rings, luckily have a parts car that I was able to get another from. Also drilled out the fuel siphon on the return side to 9/64" to help the fuel get back to the tank.

Finally after quite a few years, she's running again!! There was definitely some anxiety not knowing anything about the bottom end except what checked out on the stand and the first time doing a wiring harness without a single issue so far.

WOW! she lives!! I've been waiting to see this bad boy breathe, it's gotta feel good... I like what you did with the intercooler, it looks real subtle and sleek. Is the valve cover gonna get "PURP'ed" out?

It sure does! Yupp we still have a good bit of coating to do, just waiting to get the valve cover back from the welder.

Vin plate from @jdxnc installed

Finally back outside after a year in the new shop and looking super filthy.

Almost finished installing everything for the final time

Our neighbor got it all cleaned up, buffed and waxed. Certainly not perfect but far better than I imagined.

Last piece to make just needs welded up now:

Now we're rushing to get it buttoned up to be alighted Wednesday, tuned Thursday and on the way to NY for STM's dyno day!

Got the valve cover back from the welder and got it coated right away:

Got the t-stat and hose finished up (now realizing I put the fill cap on the wrong side of the tstat so it needs redone again)

After going to the dyno we found a few issues that need addressed in the next few weeks so we can get to the local track a few times before the shootout. As mentioned, the thermostat housing needs redone, the knock sensor is grounded out in the harness, new wideband needs installed and we have to troubleshoot the alternator that is giving us low vaoltage problems.

Made 401hp/340tq on 22psi and 93. Next time we go back we'll be switching to C16 and turn it up some more.

Wow Justin this car has come a super long way! I got out of dsm's around the time you picked this beast back up and to read through all of the posts and see all of the progress on it is incredible. Years ago you also did a VC for me and I have since recommended lots of my dsm friends to you. I just recently finished rebuilding my 91 TSi AWD and seeing this thread makes me want to go more in depth with my build, I cant wait to see the new numbers after you sort out the small issues you are having and I look forward to reading more.

Jordan.

Well been a good while since I've updated this, mostly because I've been out racing it. I've been to the track 5 times with it now and made some major headway. First pass was at the DSM Shootout which was great to finally do after all these years going there. Unfortunately got locked out of 2nd and 3rd because I didn't have my clutch adjusted properly. Got to put a bunch of miles on it out there.

Got the clutch adjusted and started running 12.8's@120 or so back in VA. Next time out went 12.4@120, unfortunately broke 3rd gear cruising around town shortly after. Came across a good deal on a QM twin disk and shep stage 3 and I knew if I wanted a 10 second pass the first season out that I'm probably going to need these. Got these installed, setup NLTS and went 11.9@128 the first time out with them.

Car was making good power but 60's were killing me. I started out with 1.8 60's on my ACT2900 and with the twin I was having all kinds of issues losing power out of the hole and cutting 2.2 60's. I almost chalked it up as just learning the twin disk better until I was studying my logs and noticed a big drop in rpm when I would let the clutch out from my 6300 2 step down to 1900 instantly.

Turned off the 2 step and setup antilag, adjusted the coilovers, added some 26" QTP's and went 11.0X@129 first hit off the trailer. with a 1.6 60' It was great to finally hit the numbers this thing should be running. 2nd pass went 11.0x@128 and got my warning for not having a roll bar or fire jacket. 3rd pass I was planning to just do an 1/8 mile run but it spun hard and hopped harder, enough so that I thought I broke something in the rear so I just cruised down the track. Surprisingly nothing broke so I went back out for my last pass of the night gunning for my 10 second pass. Turned the boost up to 28 from 26 and went 11.0x@131. Spun just a bit too much at the top of 1st and got booted for the night. Hopefully I can get that 10 before the end of the year!

Last time out I had to rev to the rpm I wanted and try to hold it there since 2 step was giving me issues. I launched at 7k instead of my normal 6300 and it hopped super hard in the rear, so much so that I swore I broke the rear end. Got back to the pits and no clunking, turned fine without issue so I wrote it off as some good luck. Unfortunately when I was making some test hits before going to the track this past weekend, it wasn't launching correctly. It was as if it was FWD and half the power. After 2 test hits that didn't feel right I got under the car and found the passenger rear axle loose in the boot. Sure enough I had broke it off at the inner cup straight as an arrow.

15109380_10100185189815644_5765336991450951953_n_zpswu0azuyg.jpg

Got it fixed and got some test hits in ready to go for the following morning

Got to the track bright and early on a mission of 10's or bust! Unfortunately was taking around 1.5-2 hours to get a run in since it was 70 degrees. Went 12.0 and then 11.8. I knew something was going on with the launch again as it was losing power at the top of 1st and into 2nd. I had plugged the clutch switch back in and knew that was causing the problem as it did before.

15078730_10100185403876664_1334319397673493931_n_zpszfrvwl0r.jpg

Got the clutch switch unplugged after checking over the last 2 logs and got up to the line. Launch felt good but not great, 1.65 60' Got to the top of the track and felt like an 11.1 or so which I knew was fast enough that I was going to get my first warning before getting booted. Got up to get my slip and got my warning, the guy wasn't too happy and was a little more stern this time about getting my safety requirements in. I got my slip and had to double check to remember what lane I was in, couldn't believe I just made my first 10 second pass!! I was so stoked to accomplish this in such a short time racing after fighting multiple issues but making huge steps forward each time out.

I set what I thought to be an almost unrealistic goal to go 10's on the stock shortblock and pump gas this season, so once I got back to the trailer I loaded it up for the day. I didn't want to risk breaking anything and just wanted to end it on a good note. Unfortunately I had gone by myself so there wasn't any video of it, but hopefully still have 1 or 2 more TNT nights before they close for the year to make one more full pass before I need to decide between caging it or keep it a street car.
