Didn't post my own thread when I ran my 10.93 at The Shootout this year, just updated the 14b drag racing thread. Figured it was time to post my own thread now that I "think" I'm done with the 14b for a minute.
I took the car out to Milan Dragway for a Toledo Tuners track rental on Saturday hoping to back-up the 10 second pass from the shootout. First pass felt sloppy and I ran an 11.044 so I knew it was right there with a smooth pass. Second pass I managed the 1.44 60' and the shifts fell properly to the 10.90 @ 122 mark!
After so many frustrations, so many 11.0 and 11.1 passes the 10.93 at the Shootout was a huge load off my shoulders. Backing it up with another 10 was icing on the cake and cemented it in my mind that nothing was a fluke. I ran 3 other passes Saturday, but I touched off the NLTS on two of them during the launch and missed 3rd on the other. Still were 11.1/11.2 and 11.6 passes. This car takes a beating and comes back for more. Also, I turned down the boost and got the mph back into the 123.x range on those last three passes, but didn't drive it to the ET, I think I need another half turn down and I should be back in the 124.x range I saw two years ago.
I know I'm out of practice driving the car and it probably has enough in it to best Joe Bucci's 10.87 and/or 10.84 if I got the perfect pass, with the perfect DA, with the perfect 60', etc. But, I don't feel the need to keep pushing it this year honestly. I have an Evo III 16g sitting on the shelf that I'm going to try to put on for one more track visit this year. The 14b will stand-by for when I'm ready to push a little harder.
The 10.90 was at 26 lbs of boost, 25* peak timing, 12.0:1ish AFR's on E85. I have nothing to hide and don't feel the need to keep any secrets here, the car weighs just over 2300 lbs with me in it. The car actually seems to make the best power and traps the best around 24 lbs of boost, I got it down to 25 and saw the traps increase from 122.x to 123.x Saturday which confirms what I've seen before. The 14b is a stock compressor housing, stock compressor wheel, with the turbine wheel clipped 15* and a 7cm2 turbine housing. The turbo actually belongs to Phil Beers who I have to thank for pushing me all these years to stick with the 14b. I still think my greatest day on the 14b was the day I finally beat his 11.49! Making a 10 second pass on this little turbo ranks right up there though!
