1G 8 second holset powered talon.

Outer cups do not bolt up to the dsm wheel/axle hub, you'll need the 3/s hubs, which bolt right in. The 4 bolt pattern is bigger on the 3/s.

1G 8 second holset powered talon.

Thanks John, I'm sure it will hold up on my race can lol. Real spool would be nice, I doubt I'll break these spider gears, they're pretty big along with enormous cross shaft. If it breaks, then I give up, cause obviously I'm doing something wrong.
  3. talondave

1G 8 second holset powered talon.

Yup, this is correct. The 3kgt axles each are 1.5" too long. I will be using the 3/s inner and outer cups with custom length dss bars.

Best option I know of right now is on facebook, not sure if he has a website. True street tuning and fab. https://m.facebook.com/TrueStreetTuning

1G 8 second holset powered talon.

Devin most definitely converted to a 3kgt rear last season. My car weighed around 2450 with me race ready. Mostly 1.4 60fts , but my clutch releasing was not smooth, resulting in the breakage. Started getting better at the end of the season. Never broke a rear until I went full slick. I bought...

1G 8 second holset powered talon.

I'm not sure what the auto 3kgt gear ratios are. The older 5 speed 3kgt rear is the same as a manual dsm, the newer 6 speed 3kgt rear ratio is the same as a auto dsm.

1G 8 second holset powered talon.

Far as I know from talking to a few guys that's raced and built 800 - 1000 hp 3kgt said they have not seen one break. Boostin performance is running the same setup, and has 6 7 sec passes without an issue. They're strong enough to make it worth the swap. And you can have dss level 5 axles for...

1G 8 second holset powered talon.

I was breaking ring and pinions, then got the diff cover from Andrew and then broke a few sets of spider gears in the rear. So had the rear welded, and still broke another ring and pinion. And every time I'd break a rear it would take out the output shaft in the trans. Not really a big swap...

Yes that's him, I fixed my typo.

1G 8 second holset powered talon.

I am able to use the dsm driveshaft, with drilling new holes on the pinion flange, the yoke locks right in just need new holes drilled. I'm using the 3kgt cups with custom length dss bars. The 3kgt wheel hubs that the axles bolt to, bolt right in a dsm.

I took the car to True Street Tuning and Fab out of Uniontown PA to do the swap. They did an awesome job, and very pleased!

Hey people, haven't posted on here in a while, figured I'd give some updates on the car for those that haven't been following on facebook. After a tough last season I finally got that 8 sec pass with a holset, yeah it wasn't a stock hx40, but still an hx40 with a bigger compressor wheel. After...

TalonDave & The Next Generation of Holset.

First pass attempt, didn't have my footing right on the clutch peddle resulting in a super bad launch.. But anyhow was trying a new helmet mount for the gopro, and I really like the view!
  14. talondave

TalonDave & The Next Generation of Holset.

First outing on the new turbo, we seen 75 lbs/per min at 35psi in first gear, the car ended up blowing another rear diff before I could make it into 2nd gear, so the turbo is definitely moving way more air! And to be honest I couldn't tell if the turbo spooled slower, felt the same as the...

South Bend Clutch Users Questionairre- looking for updates on everyone's setups!

I'm willing to put one of these clutch kits to the test if you wanted to see how they hold?! This twin disc crap is pissing me off.

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

I didnt see that ifo on the schedule!, probably not though. I have trouble running at mason dixon, they are a nhra track, and I only have my ihra license. They barely let me run in November for the ecm meet. If they would remember me, I doubt they'll let me run. Going to try for opening day at...

So far sunday looks descent, 60° at the track, but 30% chance of rain. So hopefully the rain holds off, and I can get some passes in!

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

Yeah, im pretty much done spending on the car for awhile, atleast for winter lol. I have a huge enclosed gooseneck trailer I need to fix up and have ready for next season! Might do a cf hatch in the future, but definitely not the doors or fenders! We have a turbo in the works for the upcoming...

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

Yeah, I have it setup to the drivers front, and passengers rear. I had my tire pressure at 12psi and still didnt help. The car is put away for the season, already took off the slicks and stored them in my basement! May put the car on a dyno for shits and giggles, but not sure I even care what it...

Yes its tapped into the brakes, puts pressure at one front wheel and one rear wheel.
  24. talondave

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

No need in using antilag on a small frame turbo, antilag is more used to spool big monster turbos!
  25. talondave

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

    yes, purchased from extremepsi.
  26. talondave

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

Im not full boost while im stageing and on the two step, im full boost after I take off and the clutch is fully engaged.Yeah I tried to run the car at the shootout with bent/straighten out cables, but was never back to right.. New cables are bad ass and so smooth shifting.
  27. talondave

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

mod list is up to date, I dont use antilag, and I start slipping the clutch when the lights on the tree are on their way down, in the incar video, you can hear when I start slipping, cause the turbo starts spooling louder, which is about a second before taking off. The dogbox was the best...
  28. talondave

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

Thanks guys! dsmcurse, ill definitely keep your offer in mind. Im leaving the hole at 6250, and about full boost, was running 38psi, we cranked the boost up to 40ish for the last pass, but the car was skating pretty bad and let out of it right at the 1000' mark.
  29. talondave

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

Yes, an 8 second pass will happen sometime, looks like its gonna have to be in the spring. We still have more boost to go 38psi was the highest we got to before the laptop died, so more boost and a low 1.4 60ft and we're in.
  30. talondave

  31. talondave

Getting closer to the 8s, holset hx40!

Thanks, I think the car would have went 160, if there wasnt 10+mph head wind. I was fighting wind and traction the whole way down the track.... First time I experienced the car skating in all the gears on the last two passes! Looks like all the close by tracks are shutting down for the season...

Went to the track today to test out the new coilover setup, and dss pro sport axles. Car was super consistent, and was running strong.ran in order- 9.38@153, 9.12@158, 9.17@157, 9.12@154, and 9.42@155. Track prep was crappy, and netted bad 60fts.<iframe width="560" height="315"...

Another crappy outing! first pass @30psi car went 9.82 @144 with a crap 1.6 60ft. After that we cranked the boost up a little, and just at that time , they announce that they will be switching to 1/8th mile do to high winds! welp, f that I loaded up and went home! Its a 1/4 mile car not...

I went to Jersey for the fall nationals, and they wouldn't let me race in 10.5 index without a catch pan! probably the same here too! So im out, dont feel like putting a catch pan on the car right now, will be installing one in the off season.

you have to think, im shifting my trans just as fast as an auto, thats why I run good times with low traps. If I could get the 60fts as a auto I would have 10.2- 10.3 ets @ 130 mph. I can run 10s on accident lol

Are you talking about the dust shield on the tail housing of the tcase, where the driveshaft slides in? If so, just remove it, or take it off, mix up some jb-weld put a light coat on the tcase housing and slide it back on.
