I tested a whole lot of stuff with the trans but something seemed off so I ripped the trans back out. Oh yes this is getting old. But the good thing is the new billet basket and the billet input shaft are going in.
I’m going to give it a try for a tnt session then pull it out to check wear. If it improves my 60ft it will be worth it but I know the open diff is just fine into the 7 second zone. I appreciate the info though and will pay extra attention to it.
I’ve still been playing with transmission pressures, I’m hoping tonight after some more valvebody changes the pressures are where I’d like to see them. Went ahead and through a diff locker in, this I have no idea if it’s going to improve anything at all but willing to give it a try. Also the new...
It has been quite awhile since I posted on here. Made one more track visit after the shootout in November and ended up running a 8.76. Went ahead and did some evaluations of what’s next for the car. Ripped the chassis harness out and the engine fuse box harness was 100% deleted. Shaved some...
It did pretty good on my cruises to work during the hot Kansas summers. I did get stuck in some construction traffic for about 10 minutes without moving and it started to get a little warm 210-212*. Outside of that I never had any issues though.
It’s been a week since The 30th annual shootout time for the recap. What an amazing event it was with a great turnout.Prior to this event I was trying to solve a getting warmer than I like issue at idle (all airflow).I re-checked head bolt torque, wasn’t sure if it was the new sce head gasket...
I 100% have to agree with you. After running the super 99 with the htz tech and then the xona I thought the difference would be quite significant it wasn’t though. Another interesting data point the PTE on gate, back pressure hit 20 psi for 34.7 psi of boost. The xona on gate 44 psi was 48 psi...
Yes, that seems to have been a big issue with mine last season. I expected a lot more out of the turbo and I was honestly disappointed at the end of the season. I’m 100% positive it was because I was running the open T4 housing, those Xonas in the vband housings are animals.
.
Got to the track last week and boy it was Hotttt out! 3 passes total. Started with a 1/8 mile hit a 7.08. I had to shake the cobwebs off it’s been what almost 10 months. Then I ran 1/4 mile after adding fuel to the main map and added 1* of timing 9.4@145. Final pass adjusted the fuel map a...
Fueltech is installed. We have the start and idle tune just about done. It’s been so hot out in NC hard to work in the heat in spare time. Scrambling to get it ready for the shootout, I really need some track time to start tuning this thing.
Most of the factory engine harness that remains vs the new one. It did good for a 33 year life span but this new one is amazing, and a few lbs lighter. There are a few company’s offering a printed cluster but no one offers one for a nano pro wideband yet. So I used some abs 1/8” thick...
It will be interesting for sure on an auto. I know it’s not exactly going to be easy hitting an 8 with it. If it’s on par with my old hx40 then I’ll be pretty happy.
Got the engine dropped back in the car waiting on a few 3” clamps for the charge piping. I bought a tau performance 3 spd conversion kit like 3 months ago and installed that. This completely eliminates O.D and blocks off all the Unused valves for a drag specific setup per Kigglys write up back...
Had a little down time to figure out what to do next. First was to refresh the engine combo. The old shearer spec pistons were about to hit 10 years old and they still looked great. Picked up a set of V3 Vader rods and some 10.5:1 pistons for the new setup. The goal here by bumping static...
To pick up from my last post I did end up running the IFO at Topeka in forced induction pro and won the event. Ran another 8 sec to back up the run from September.Since then the car has been sitting because I just got done moving back to North Carolina. I was planning on running the IFO event...
Sorry for the delayed response I haven’t logged on since last September been extremely busy with work and moving to a new state recently. The car weighs around 2600lbs with the carbon doors. The factory full weight doors which I do swap on adds 110lbs on that and I weigh 200lbs without the...
Thank you! It’s that time of the year for everyone to get PB’s. I was really banking on the shootout with awesome track prep, great people in the community and the boost weather. There is always next year though.
It's been awhile since I posted any updates but I finally got the car back out after 4 months. One thing I never messed with before was the camshafts and I had a feeling it was time to mess with them. I went ahead and bought a degree kit so I could get the cams to manufacture specs. My intake...
The transfer gears can be a crab shoot. Many of us ran the OEM transfer gears for multiple seasons in the 9s range. I know some have had the gear break and wrench havoc breaking the bell housing. I ran a few seasons on stock ones into the 9’s territory around 600awhp. I will contribute some of...
I’ll be making the long journey again. As long as summit has good track prep it’s worth it. I didn’t think it was too bad last year but Kansas is another kind of heat that I have test in. Turbo weather
I tried out the 7% gears last season. I swapped standard ratio back in the car over winter. I had quite a few personal discussions with Aaron Gregory on them so I figured it was worth a shot. From my findings if you aren’t running a stroker motor or hitting we’ll say 9800+ RPM going through the...
Made the trip down to OKC IFO yesterday. Made 2 hits in qualifying, qualified number 1. Round 1 eliminations sprung a leak at the fuel tank. Guy I was paired with wouldn’t wait for me to fix so I was disqualified. The passes sided a 50 shot to stall up and about 20ft out it shut off. A-B tune-up...
Thank you and I’m glad to hear my build thread has gave you some advice. Which version super 99 do you have and what hotside? There were a couple changes to the turbine wheel in size throughout the years.
I truly believe it was the huge turbine housing I had on the smallest turbine wheel they...
Been a long 5 months since I posted last. So over winter I addressed a few things going over the car. 1st up was swapping in some Vader aluminum rods, kiggly girdle, arp main studs and put a fresh set of rings in the motor. During tear down I noticed the head experienced a small torch factor. I...
You’ll have to bend the oil squirters a tiny bit to clear the rods. From what I’ve seen with the r&r rods you’ll need to clearance the bottom of the cylinder bores and take off a lot of the saddle braces on the bottom end. Bearings is like you said drill it l, debur and done. I’ve never measured...
Season has been over for over a month now. Got down to a 9.1@155 but just couldn’t get past the 1.6 60ft. The comp turbo definitely makes power that was only at 54psi of boost. At this point I’m quite sure I have a issue with either the trans or the converter leaning more towards the trans with...
So I got ahold of Comp last week and they said in 10 years Comp and the bearing manufacturer have never seen a failure like what happened to mine. How much I believe that not sure…. With that being said I was told the bearing collapsed. Customer service has been excellent and they replaced the...
From what I’ve read through researching when a shaft snaps it’s usually due to oil starvation at those kinds of RPM’s that is. I was feeding it from the head so maybe it wasn’t enough or had a moment where it caught an air pocket somehow. Comp recommends 30-40psi oil pressure once you start...
The shootout was an awesome experience. I met some of you on here and it was a pleasure. The Morrison’s asked me if I wanted to display my car Friday at Buschurs next to there booth and I was so honored to do that. My car only fit 2 classes quick 32 or turn the car down and run 9.5 after giving...
I’ll be there for sure. The biggest change was going to 7% transfer gears. It was a huge gamble and only one way to find out by trying it. I would say that’s the biggest hurdle on short track. It’s gaining 30mph + on the back half so making some jam. Hopefully raising the launch rpm will get me...
I part of me wanted to go with the 1.15 but the guys at comp advised me to go with the 1.0 so I’m giving it a shot. Made a last minute decision to drive down to Wichita and make a few test hits before the shootout. It was 100* no lie and da was 4500ft insane. I made 2 hits the turbo survived...
I’m excited my first one in all of these years. I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of people in person. Still not decided on the class I want to run.
The day after Tulsa I came to the conclusion the super 99 was maxed out. I could not make more than 49 psi without spraying and then it would hit 53 psi. I literally pulled the turbo off in the trailer and it’s been sitting since. In my case the gen 1 super 99 was a bust compared to the old hx40...
I’m looking at a 2k mile round trip this will be the first time I’ve made the event. Crazy to think because I grew up near Buffalo.N.Y and lived in Cleveland a few years. It seems quite a few people are confused about this years rules for classes so let’s hope the attendance doesn’t take a hit.
The Tulsa IFO was an interesting one. Started out with a blown starter fuse in the staging lanes for 1st round of qualifiers. First pass 9.54 crap 60ft 1.68. 2nd qual pass Honda guy was playing games at the stage beam and I pushed through the brakes red lighted. Elimination round 1 against a...
With not much to do besides go over the car before the race on Sunday I figured it was time to install the carbon fiber doors that have been sitting in the closet since October. The longest part of the process was cutting the optic armor windows and drilling all the holes. Fitment was great some...
I was able to make 3 passes tonight. All steps in the right direction and a new pb is always a plus. My voltage dropped on the 1st pass to bottom 11s by 7k rpm in 1st. I noticed my afrs were on the lean side to me 12.0 so I added some fuel and no change the next pass. Added another 5% still the...
I know of 1 person who was running the open T4 housing with the xona 105-69 Kevin Collins. He has a divided mani but the turbine housing is open. He ran bottom 9s at 55psi. Kevin Jewer ran the gen 1 super99 to a 7.9 on the T3 housing maxed out at 54 psi with some nitrous on top and boostin ran...
Had a good time at Import Face-Off Topeka. Ended up winning forced induction pro over a awd Honda Crx in the final that missed a shift. The car is moving in the right direction and I’ve been trying different things to figure out this 60ft I just can’t seem to break the 1.5 barrier. At the...
Finally took it to the track for some shakedown passes. A total of 4. Wastegate pressure 34 psi was a 10.1, 37 and 39 were 10.0’s. I was having a heck of a time trying to dial in the forced four smart 100 using the mph with the crappy 1G speed sensor so switched over to rpm up shifts. 40 psi and...
Got my angry aero bumper shutters, chute handle and cable and put the driveshaft loop on. Next up is the fire suppression system I bought from Ostars drag car part out last year and engine diaper. That will check the block on all the nhra safety rules for the car.
Buttoned up a few small things and passed the Sheriffs inspection to get the vehicle titled and registered here in Kansas. So we are officially back on the road legally. Took a quick cruise and everything felt good so now it’s onto hitting the track and start cranking this thing up.
I’m not sure you will find a answer on this. We’ve seen multiple people on little 62mm turbos run 8s and guys on 42Rs barely crack 9s but there is a substantial difference in power. I’ve never seen a post where someone broke any of the main bolts I’m all in to be proven wrong. The only example I...
