Selling this almost finished project guys. Getting out of the DSM scene.1990 AWD TSi with 4 bolt LSD rear end.
This was going to be a drag/track car and has the no interior.
This has a brand new 6 bolt engine with the mod's listed.
I stupidly took it out to test something and forgot to...
I have a 90 and did some cluster mod's to remove the OEM gauges and in doing so I cut some of what I assume were nonessential links on the flex connector on the back. When I didn't get my tach working, I figured I had messed up something, so I went and got another cluster, from a 93 and plugged...
Is there any difference in the 1G instrument clusters for the turbo and Non turbo?I'm pretty sure my Tach is dead because I messed up some of the plastic flex sheet on the back doing a gauge mod'. The tach worked fine before and now it's bum. I can get my hands on another one, but it's not...
Is there a way to test the injector caps for voltage without the engine running. Also would a faulty CAS, cause the engine to not start at all or just not run smoothly. I'm pretty much down to these 2 things causing my engine to not start. This is a brand new rebuilt engine and I've...
Ok guys, I'm getting paranoid. It's been a year and half since I started this project and many parts have come and gone.I'm about ready to fire this up and for what ever reason I'm starting to think I screwed up something in the clutch/flywheel setup.I supposedly bought a ACT 6 bolt AWD...
Ok everyone:DIt's been a year and half in the making, but I'm just about ready to put fire and fuel to the new engine:hellyeah:Before I do it, I'd like as many inputs as possible to what I may have forgotten to connect, tie off, adjust etc.etc.I think I have it down but this is my...
This is a stupid question and I'm stumped for time. I am putting my stock BCS back on while I fire up my new engine, until I get it broken in. For the life of me I can't recall which nipple goes to J-pipe and which goes to wastegate actuator. Can some one smack me and then tell me:ohdamn...
All you guys out there that have put Prothane mounts in, is there a sequence to putting the mounts back on the car.
I have had my engine out for a year now and finally got it ready to go back in, but the front and rear roll mounts won't line up. The front will if I torque on the mount a little...
It's been over a year since I took the clutch out and can't recall which way the TOB clip goes. I took a picture of it both ways. The manual doesn't show clearly AT ALL! which way.Anyone care to tell me which picture is correct.Thanks.
I just got my prothane motor mount kit and was wondering why the front motor mount is solid and the other 3 are split??
I can see the ease at which the other ones go in and was curious if something was amiss as why this one was solid and if it's supposed to be this way what's the trick to...
Doing a bunch of wire tucks on all the non essential wiring and while doing the alternator wiring, I peeled back the tape and found this cut off wire. I looked up the schematics and the color doesn't match what is supposed to be there plus it has no where to connect to?
Any ideas what this is...
Ok Changed the schematic based on what I think is required. Blu/Blk wires, from what I can tell only powers the A/C, heater stuff. So it's removed as I don't have any climate control in the car. The rest should be good. Any takers??Thanks for the input.
I'm asking as I can't find the correct answer to the colors on my ignition harness. I have the wiring harness colors from VFAQ and can't find any threads on this site that match my colors.I've removed the steering lock and all the steering column accessories, as this car is getting prepped...
I was wondering if any one can tell me if it's ok to just delete the fuse box, that is next to the brake servo?? I can't see why not as it's only got heater and A/C relays in it. I've gutted my car and it no longer has any of the heater or A/C in the car or attached to engine.I was doing...
In an attempt to get DSM'rs into rallying and show what it's all about, I figured we need to understand the "basics".
here's a great vid', for all those who aren't familiar with WRC, Colin McRae, is probably one of the all time greatest drivers in WRC, along with his dad Jimmy, they dominated...
I'm removing my ignition switch, for 2 reasons. One I need to delete the steering wheel lock and secondly, I'm thinking about moving the ignition switch to the custom made center panel, I'm making and putting a push button start in. This is going to be a track car (No flaming for doing this on a...
I've read one of the most enlightening articles, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/366890-4g63t-pcv-system.html#post152294004 and made up my mind that I've got some mod's to do to my set up.I plan on running another catch can and going with the advanced setup. This car is...
I'm modifying my gauge cluster to have the boost gauge and my electric oil pressure mounted inside the cluster. I've gutted the car so have aftermarket gauges for temps and such. The car is going to strictly track or strip and have no need for parking brake lights and door open lights, so in the...
I've seen some threads on these pulleys and can't pull out the good from the bad.So with my set up, BSEK and no power steering or A/C, will this crank pulley be good or bad. This is going to be purely a weekend track/ strip car. will not be on the road as a DD.Honest inputs please:thumb...
Does anyone know if there's a kit out there to replace the turbo coolant lines? I've looked at some vendors and see oil kits, but no water kits. I'm trying to replace the hose clamps and banjos to -AN fittings.Any ideas on what needs to be done at the thermostat housing with the nipple? I...
Just got done putting my new timing belt on and after following the directions from various threads and VFAQ, I figured I'd post a picture of what I couldn't find anywhere, of the correct measurement of the tensioner pin and the tensioner arm after setting your timing belt and rotating your...
I'm done searching and I have found lots of cool stuff. BUT nothing on the 90 CAS. I am rebuilding my engine and found the wires cracked and bared on my CAS. Figured I give it a shot and tear it down and rebuild it. I did and it wasn't that hard. BUT now the biggie....:pray:HOW do I test the...
I am rebuilding my engine and in the process of cleaning things up and fixing things I find broken, I came across this today. The 4 wires have hardened and where it was clamped to the CAS body they have cracked, but the one wire you can see in the pic', is completely bared. I don't know if...
Just out of curiousity:confused:I'm in the middle of a rebuild and my old lower timing cover got trashed by the A/C pulley and I was going to buy a new one. But, I got thinking about it and this car is not going to be anything but a track/ AutoX car. So is there any negative things that...
I have checked my box of bags that had every nut and bolt I took off the engine as I stripped it down. I for some reason, don't recall the washer that goes between the front pulley bolt and the crankshaft. According to the DSM shop manual and the Haynes, there's a washer that goes between the...
Ok, stupid question time. Please no smart alec replies. I always do my search and research, but I'm on the road and pushed for time right now and need a quick answer as I'm trying to buy a used SAFC. So please if this is something I can find either point me in the right direction or simply...
Okay, I stupidly forgot to put the oil pickup pipe on, as I'm rebuilding the engine from scratch and I haven't attached the front oilpump case yet. So I have ARP main studs installed and torqued. Then I see my oil pickup pipe lying on the bench and realize I forgot to attach it to the main...
I was curious if anyone has done this mod and what the result was? Good or bad? Worth the hassle or not?http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-suspension-brakes/343614-miata-mod-dsm-de-powering-rack.htmlThanks for the input.:thumb:
I've had my head and block decked and and now I'm trying to figure out what my compression ratio is going to be. I guess I need the volumes of the valve area and dish on the piston.Anyone know what they are or where I can find them??I have NPR 0.020 over pistons.thanks for the help.
Long Story Short. Going to have to use my old block as the new block is no use. Anyway, I'm sending my old block in to get tanked and bored etc etc. I have the BSEK on my new block and wanted to know if I can just pull the bearings out and re-install them on my old block when I get it back. OR...
Hey there. Here's the thing. I already have a engine shop telling me I'm screwed and need to use my old block, but I want some second opinions before I throw out another couple hundred on machine work.I bought this block to replace my old one after the TBelt stripped and bent a bunch of stuff...
Alright, I tried to rekindle my old thread on this subject, but nobody was biting:pSo here goes, I've read a ton of articles and most all deal with the TB's on 91 or later. I know all about how the FIAV works, but the 90 is a little different and I'd like some opinions, as to whether I'm...
I have read for the last couple of years now everyone talking about porting the wastegate to help cure boost creep. Well, since my engine is being rebuilt and I'm porting all the stuff everyone talks about I thought I might look into this mod and see what it stands for.I hope my video posts...
I pulled the head on this half built engine, long story, but found some issues with the block. It's getting taken care of properly, but I noticed the one set of valves don't have the 6T on them. Is this normal or have I discovered another screw up of the machine shops doing??
In the process of rebuilding my engine and doing some porting. I have ported the turbo, exhaust mani and head. But one that I felt nervous about, but did anyway was the OFH and the oil port on the head.I have attached pic's of both. I will polish the head job, but is it enough and the same...
I'm pretty sure this means it's been overbored by 0.50.Am I correct??Been sniffing too much carb cleaner. Just realized that's 0.50 not 0.050.What could this mean??
Please be nice...LOLAnyway, finally got the last of the old block stripped down and getting ready to start putting the new one together. As I look around the engine to make sure I haven't missed anything I come across the squirters, on the old block. So, I've search around and seen different...
Quick question.. I just pulled the dipstick tube out of the block to transfer to my new block. The oil ring at the bottom that seats the tube in the block, is it any old o-ring or is there an OEM part. Don't want to just pop this thing back in and find out it leaks. Thanks
Just wondering if anyone has an a legitimate reason for not removing the cooler line on the power steering. The one I'm talking about is the hard line that runs from the reservoir out to the front of the car and back.I know it's just helping keep the fluid cool, but this car will not be a...
I'm doing a full engine rebuild and wondered if it's absolutely necessary to replace the Hydraulic Tensioner:confused:I took the one of the old motor and compressed it to lock the pin into the holes and it was exceptionally stiff. So I just want to know if this is one of those nice to do...
I have to take the blame for not doing this sooner, but figured I'd run the car 'till it was time to replace a few things. Sadly I did the obvious. plugs filters etc, BUT not the T-belt or below the Timing cover stuff. So after a stripped T-belt I pulled the motor and found some of this...
I'm very confused after reading for the last 2 hours:cry:So please show some pity and answer this as simply as you can.:pray:I am try to upgrade my MAF. what I can tell is that I can go one of a few ways and I'm trying to find out if what works well and not what is the BEST.So so far...
Just getting started pulling some of the good stuff of my busted motor and transplanting it on to my new block. In pulling my cams off I found this gouge on one of the support journals. It's not on the cam lobes, so I want to ask if this is ok? I saw some light scoring on the old cams off the...
I just picked up a partially built 6 bolt from a guy, which I'mn going to use to replace my blown motor.
The question I have is he did the BSEK and I don't know what all is eliminated as this was a partial rebuild and the motor has new pistons and rings and I have to transfer all my accessories...
This was stated in another post I have going. Anyone had this problem before?? and if so 2 things... Why? and what did you do to correct the problem. I don't want to get this engine installed and then find out I have to do the mod' mentioned and pull the motor again.
Ok here goes, NO biting my head off, as I have read the Tech articles and searched many different key words for the last couple of hours and the conclusion is there is as many answers are there is DSM'rs. That's a good thing:thumb:So anyway, stripped the TB at Christmas and killed the...
My timing belt lost some teeth and the car virtually died at idle. I know I goosed it not 5 minutes before and she never hesitated until it died a couple of minutes later.
I heard some weird noise from the cam belt area and by the time I got to the end of the road it died. I towed a mile home...
Anyone recently prepped a 1G, for Rally or Rallycross?I'm looking to get back into the sport and my 1G is on the top of the list. It's a AWD, so I have a great start on the setup. As far as the costs, I've done this before many years ago in a different country and with different cars, so I...
Okay, I need some honest advice. I am currently running "Pocketlogger" and I'm happy with it. I can view my logs on my laptop through their log reader. It runs on my Palm Pilot IIIx, no problems.NOW.. after reading lots of threads on logs and tuning capabilities, I see some of you are...
OK.. I know there is a few threads out there regarding this, and the opinions are as many as there's DSM's in the world..SO.If I don't have this strap on a '90 1G, running hacked MAF and turboback 3" catless exhaust, do I need to have this strap to give me reliable O2 readings.I just...
