Two cars and can't afford to get either of them going, people have some strange priorities.I wonder how hoopty the cars would be after they got back together/if at all. Doing just one of these cars the right way costs more than enough.
Just some notes to help you out:Your coolant fan issue is probably a dead sensor in the water neck by the thermostat. You should ditch the manual fan switch setup and let the ECU automatically cycle the fan. It's more of an idle fan anyways, as if you're overheating moving, you have water...
I have a Bride Zeta 3 type L seat in my driver's seat, and a Recaro SPG in the passenger seat. I'm 6'1" and around 176-180 depending on how much Chipotle I've had that day, and the Bride is a lot better fitting on me than the Recaro, which requires me to scrunch down a little for the shoulders...
If you notice in the corner of that picture, I have some little loud speakers there bolted up. I'd honestly get some nice door speakers and call it a day.
Yeah, I forgot to mention the built motor drinks down oil like it's going out of style too. I burn through a quart in about 600 miles, but the compression is still good, so I just run it and top it off every so often. Most of the issues at this point are pretty much hammered out, but it's taken...
Just randomly clicked this, this is my car (at least it is now).It looks cute in that photo, but man I am still going through heck cleaning out previous DSM owners garbage two years later (crappy coilovers, crappy tune, crappy eBay parts, crappy cams, crappy seats, crappy transmission, crappy...
Getting DSM'ers to even get KYBs is a challenge when you can get dumpy low K-Sport/D2/Megan Racing and have them 32 way shock valving "adjustment".I sold my rust bucket 2G whole for like 1500 bucks with a good six-bolt, shep trans, and some other goodies (Apexi FMIC/Big T28/Zeitronix/DSMLink 2...
Konis for 1Gs are not great compared to what you can buy now for Evolutions that will fit 1G DSMs:http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/evo-8-9-struts-and-springs-on-1g.372296/I'm pretty sure you could even skip welding and special order from a company the bottom mount on a set of coilovers of...
Yes, inserting an almost 30 year old car in a dying fad "sport" that was relevant for 4 months in 2010 is definitely the way for Mitsubishi to really make a comeback.I have to really congratulate Mitsubishi for continuing to survive despite more or less being the last choice for people to look...
Charles: The problem with a DSM in road racing environment and making big power (especially that magic 520 hp), is going to be heat management, which isn't really a problem with Autocross/Drag/even Time Trial. The only way I could see reaching that kind of power would be possibly with a two...
If there's anything I've learned about these cars, don't fix what's not broken. 2600s are a great clutch and are more than enough to deal with what you want. If it's that much of a smoking deal, buy it and resell it.
You are going to be in for a really large uphill battle that isn't worth it IMHO.520 crank HP is going to be a challenge to keep cool with these cars. RRE had a hard enough time with a 16G on their old 1G GST, although to be fair, they were in the middle of California/Mexico heat. Transmission...
I agree with what's been said in this thread as to spend less on the car, more on the person behind the wheel. :) Something that hasn't been said here is that a full bucket seat + deep dish wheel (at least for my 6'1" tall self) helps out A LOT versus the stock seats, and will keep you planted...
I have this over on NewEngDSM as well:I mounted my fancy-pants vented hood and now it's time for this oem carbon hood to go to someone else. The hood itself has zero cracks, nice and shiny, and light. The aerocatches are already installed which if you know anything about installing them, it's...
The little weenie stock 2G water/oil cooler is NOT up to spec for any sort of track performance driving with something larger than a T25! Your oil will bake pretty hard.
What a neat little surprise. It doesn't shock me that some other car uses the same brake caliper mounting hole dimensions, but it's nice to know that you can throw these on with no sweat. You could probably fit EVO rotors without a problem.
If you really, really want to actually do wheel to wheel racing, sell your car and get a Spec Miata, or a prepped RX7, or since your boss races the "American Iron" series, maybe an old prepped Fox body or Camaro. DSMs are unclassifiable for the most part, very expensive (AWD + Turbo = $$$ to be...
Doing your hobby as a job is a good way to make you hate your hobby. The automotive aftermarket industry is a wasteland. You're 17. Move out of your parents' house, let the car sit a while, go party, kiss girls, and if you're really obsessed with cars, consider mechanical engineering.But...
Two things you will be battling with a DSM on a road course:Heat management, and brakes (And the slippery awful stock seats!).Heat management: Wrap/blanket the manifold/wrap/blanket the turbo exhaust side with a blanket/wrap the downpipe. Install an external oil cooler, and block off the...
What's your budget? What do you actually plan to do with the car (Are you actually road racing or just futzing around with track days, although I'm going to guess the latter rather than the former)? What class are you going to run in? What's your driving experience? Is the car going to be still...
No you are not "too big"The belt will be more or less below you and you will pull it up to the fastener. It's supposed to be tight around your crotch so you don't slip forward in an accident. You can loosen the belt, but it should be firm against your crotch. It's not made to fit like a pair...
Konis will be fine with 9" wide wheels. Shocks have very little to do at all with how your wheels fit. It mostly depends on your spring rates/how much you've rolled your fenders/your actual wheel offset/how much tire you're running. You will be wasting your money on Megan coil overs, despite...
I remember your car up @ NHMS with COM back in July! :P I don't want to speak for anyone here, but for most folks (including my own hunk of junk), our cars aren't exactly to prep for NARRA, and more than likely never will be, and on top of that, will never be competitive.
"Some guy" might also have a tubular exhaust manifold, smim, well degreed cams, and a killer tune, and might have gained more power from a real core.China cores are what you pay for.
Put the heat shield back on the exhaust manifold, put some better brake pads/fluid in the car, and LEARN HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR BEFORE YOU MOD IT AT ALL. I say this from the bottom of my heart out of consideration for you.You will be wasting your time/money/etc if you throw 400 whp at the car...
You're nuts. You don't need a cage (much less a hans device/fire system/etc!!!) for a car that hasn't ever seen a track, and is going to be puttering around in the newbie group HPDE with a piggy understeering AWD car.
Easy stuff:Turn your boost down.Blanket/wrap everything (eg exhaust manifold/turbo/O2 housing/half your downpipe), and then some.Take out a degree of timing in your ECU settings/what you run for pump gas and then drive with race gas. It'll help give more of a margin for error with long...
What are you prattling on about? Talking about Brent Rau's car vs. a typical budget used 20 year old 1G is completely different stuff. Furthermore I'm not sure where you get the concept that an Evolution is inferior to a DSM? The only thing a DSM has on an EVO is used price and looks.
They are all absurdly cheap because they are all complete piles of unreliable crap at this point after being beaten on by every 19 year old who wants a "racecar" that he can drive to the "track" and back.
