Firstly I want to apologize to those who have followed and supported this project for so long I know you all wanted to see us do well in Australia but we decided to withdraw from racing at WTAC at least for now. There are a million reasons, a very long story behind it but the basic summary is...
Hey guys I should make sure this is super clear about what happened when we tested the arms on my car! I think it makes it sound like something was wrong with the arms and it wasnt, they were perfect. We replaced our uprights and all our arms at the same time. I knew that something was...
Hey thanks guys. The triple element does in fact make less drag for the same amount of downforce as the dual element, that is correct! Here are some hi res pics from the test, which by all accounts was a big success. We got great feedback from the driver on the handling stuff and it is very...
Our third test will be at the Japanese Nationals at Queensland Raceway this weekend! Check out the new rear wing. I designed a triple element for APR and we are testing the prototype unit. We are also making a huge change to the new Haltech Elite ECU which has some really wicked boost control...
These are going to be tested on my car. I think its safe to say the loads I will put them through are beyond what normal people will see. With the extra roll center I will drop the front down a bit more. Also I will adjust my front upper control arms outboard get a bit more front track out of...
Hey mate, it ran pretty good. we did 5 sessions during the day, did about 25 laps. Engine ran faultless. We need a new battery for the car and made a list of things we think need to be addressed all are small / preventative. Biggest thing is get to the next test and turn the power up. After...
Thanks guys,The workshop knows the exact parts list and I know the basics. Right now we are totally focused on chasing reliability, so power is the opposite of what we need at the moment. The head is the nice head though and the bottom end is a bit of a throw together to make it to WTAC...
I am in the Narita airport now on the way to Australia for our test! The car drove around the block, and is going on the dyno soon. The guys got it back together, weather has not cooperated so far.
Hey Paul, Phillip passed me on about the problem in this thread. Do you mind if I dartboard a few ideas?Firstly I would say it is possible for us to live without the split LCA. I would not do this though without using a higher caster setup meaning you will need to have that configurable...
Those are actually two questions I dont know the answer to. I am down under in about a week to test the car so I will get back to you on what coating he used and where we put the canisters.
Hello everyone. I think there is some confusion the suspension is MCA not MCS.These are their normal line of three way adjustable. Here is their website: Gold Series | MCA SuspensionAccording to Murray the pricing is $1150 each with those options. Here is some more damper porn...
Yes and sometimes its a big problem like right now we need to overdo cooling, and every time we add cooling flow we lose precious counts of downforce and increase drag. So I am trying to find a way to increase our cooling without hurting the rest of the aero or at least hurt less....
At this time we do not have any plan to ship the car. So I am not thinking that far ahead yet. I believe the problem was how they strapped it down though.More on the porous modeling. In the past we did not have good test data for the coolers so I programmed a velocity in and out of them...
Hello everyone. Sorry for the slow updates. I have been really busy as I recently completed a huge project designing a wind tunnel which we installed at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi and we are still training their staff how to use it. I have also been busy with side projects and time...
We just have to look at costs. Remember the other AWD competitors are sponsored by very rich team owners, its a lot to compete with financially and more than we can support with our humble sponsors, workshop labor and my engineering being volunteered. Also the AWD stuff for the DSM is not as...
Hey Guys, we have formulated a plan of attack for next year with a focus on our drivetrain reliability first and foremost. Looks like our engine package is quite strong. I got a couple more donations even after the event! Thank you for that! I did spend a lot more than I expected to get Tim...
I was honestly so busy on my car I never even got a chance to stroll by the Nemo pit except to say hi to the guys a couple times. I did suspect there was a cooling issue within the engine from the early test day. The aerodynamic cooling was pretty much overkill from how I designed it and it...
The guys need to get back to the workshop and catch up on their work for a little bit and we will ship the gearbox off to PAR to analyze what went wrong. After that I think we will tear down and inspect. Once we have an idea of what all we need to improve we can make a plan and set a schedule...
I'll fill you in a bit on what happened. I just got did this thing called sleeping which was really nice hahaFirstly the car got an amazing response! Every time we pushed the car out a crowd formed around it taking photos. It was probably the most photographed car outside of the fastest...
The fill is at the cap that you see up near the cowl cover in the top left of the engine bay.The coil plate is alloy and it will be light later when we get done with it, right now we want to just make it out there! Time is very short.
engine bay is coming together. GT Auto guys did up a very nice coil bracket for the Denso coils. All new intercooler piping, cooling system has been redone and all the support structure for the huge front downforce loads is complete.
I have thought about it. We have always had bigger fish to fry though. Right now we have to focus on reliability and not just for this race but so we have a stable platform to build into the future with.
Well I think the big thing is that everything has to be vibration dampened that is aluminum welded and some things that is just not possible with as they need to be attached directly to the engine and any damping would be extra weight.Sorry for being slow on the updates guys, the guys in the...
Yes! PWR made a very nice piece! Really simplified our hose routing and aerodynamics in the front of the car. Yes the new bracket should be great and with steel we should not have an issue with cracks at the welds!Im getting to the point now where I almost never want to use welded aluminum...
A couple of small updates! The guys rebuilt the dry sump bracket, the one we had before was not going to work, the pump was not aligned perfectly and the weld cracked. A new steel bracket with proper alignment and high quality welds combined with a proper manifold.Second photo is a...
American Le Mans Series ace Tom Sutherland will be our pilot for WTAC 2013! Read more here Five Minutes with USA Pro Driver – Tom Sutherland | World Time Attack Challenge
rvaughn: thank you so much! Means a lot to us!! Every dollar counts! We are working on a custom unit for the heat exchanging duties. We are now using custom engine mounts as well. Lose weight and improve the angles on the axles at lower ride heights as this caused us one broken axle in...
WE ARE NOW OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED TO COMPETE AT WTAC 2013!!https://www.facebook.com/pages/Time-Attack-Eclipse/277549119044394Please consider to use the donation page as well. Tim's flight ticket is $1400 for the cheapest one we could find!
The cooling system layout is basically unchanged but with better and lighter components, it will still be oil/water exchangers but with a discrete unit that includes a transaxle oil heater/cooler.
Very sorry to hear about you losing you job, thank you for the well wishes. I have not heard of that race, but coming to the US would be very difficult and expensive for us without a major sponsor covering the costs. I can tell you from what it took to get the car to Australia I would never...
Tim has been at the shootout so he couldnt post about the gearbox work but here is a little update. Here is the car as it sits now. Fabrication work for the new nose is finished and notice the dual element rear wing! We had a problem with the front aero bending the frame so a proper support...
Hello everyone! I made a spreadsheet where I track all the donations. This should have all the ones people sent to date. I put just the initials in case some people wanted to remain private about the donation. Huge thank you to those who have donated. Please dont be afraid to send only $20...
Everyone, thank you for the replies! We have received many donations and we are up to $360! Thank you to everyone for the kind words of support! I am going to make a google docs spreadsheet listing the donations by initials so everyone can track it. After we spend the money I will write what...
As many of you know it has been a while since you heard anything from my car.For those that dont know me or the history, this is my 1997 Eclipse GST Spyder that competed in 2009/2010 US Time Attack events. In our most notable victories we dominated rounds of Redline Time Attack including...
I talked with Kevin about having the whole system inside the wheel, the issue is the upright needs to be bolt in to reach enough market to make the tooling costs worth while. I was just thinking when I get to that point I can machine it down and mount lower. Some people have rules as well...
The upper ball joint first? Thats different than I expected. Can you share the details of the analysis? What did you find? Can you explain the problem in more detail?
Scorch racing, fastest car in Japan right now, he's using struts now too, that doesn't mean anything. He wants me to design him a wishbone susp someday so his car can handle better. Mike at GST would probably tell you the same thing.Struts are an inferior design. You can do well with...
I try to run away from these kind of discussions but basically its creating a virtual steering axis further outboard and it improves steering feedback and helps torque steer. Its a great system and way superior to a front strut setup like the EVO.The downside of our configuration in my...
