Got my 68HTA back from FP Monday and I was able put the car back together last night. Along with the 68HTA she got a new Aeromotive 340 fuel pump and Fluidyne radiator and an A/C condenser re-installed.Next, going to take it for a basic 18lb dyno tune. Then back into the shop for a Jack's...
Ok, finally got all the issues identified with the car and I am about to start pulling stuff apart tonight in anticipation of new parts coming in for the build. There were some issues with the car loosing oil from the turbo so rather than rebuilding that I am upgrading to an FP 68HTA.DD/RR...
Well, while the jpipe gives it away on a 2G I like the idea of being able to play it off as a normal 16G. Of course the giant FP logo on my exhaust manifold doesn't help either. :shhh:
Do you agree with the idea of getting the used 68 over a new 71 though and just getting it rebuilt if necessary? I'm still saving money either way and I could potentially save a lot.
All great advice, thanks. I agree with you on the 16g but I'm worried about the 16Gs im looking at because they are MHI 14b rebuild/converted 16Gs. What do you guys thing about buying a 14b turned 16G?This is my 3rd DSM, in between the first two and this one I owned an M3 and 350z, both...
Appreciate the advice. Here are my thoughts right now. If I buy the 68HTA for $650 from a seller on tuners with a good reputation and it turns out to need a rebuild when I get it I can send it off to FP, pay $400-500 for a rebuild and still be ahead. (68/71HTA is $1299!).It's a risk/reward...
I may play around with an HX35 down the road but I will probably do something like an FP 3076 for my 'drag' setup when I finish building my built 6 bolt. I should have mentioned that this next turbo is for a little road race and just general street mostly. Thanks, I'm leaning towards the used...
Ok, so I am simply trying to decide what to do for a turbo to replace my blown T-28. I am running a stock, freshly rebuilt late 98 split thrust bearing 7 bolt with ARP head studs & stock transmission.I will be getting a Jack's built transmission pretty soon and I have a set of BC 272 cams...
The hatch on the car leaks apparently and there was some standing water and rust in the trunk hatch floor. First thing I did when I got it home was to clean it all out, wirebrush and sand off the rust and then coat it in a rust prevention enamel.
So, as the topic says I am looking for a clean 2G AWD. Going to be making a purchase in the next few weeks and I am looking high and low for a good deal on car + parts if possible.I would love to find a 99 GSX but any clean 2G w/ clear carfax is fine. I will consider a shell + parts or...
The CFM math is math I actually did based on a lot of reading I have done about similar builds such as: (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/363610-2-3l-stroker-build-suggestions-chime-please.html)I used 100% efficiency b/c that is what the consensus seemed to be after reading a few...
Sorry for the long post, just trying to put all of my build research in one place.Using the math provided by this article:
Compressor Flow Maps and CalculationsCFM = L x RPM x VE x Pr
5660And using the following thread...
EDIT: Ok, I finally picked up a running 98 GSX. Very clean body but the interior needs work. Pics coming soon.Mods on the car:*2.0 7 bolt stock rebuild w/ 10k miles (late 98 split thrust bearing)
*Ecmlink V3 with Speed Density
*AEM Wideband, AEM oil pressure, AEM boost gauge 35 psi
*Tein...
What I logged:
EGT
Air/Fuel (on wideband o2 tho)
vacumm / boost
rpm
log injector duty cycle, or log injector pulsewidth and rpm to calculate the inj duty cycle
throttle positionto name a few
Compression test and have you checked your spark plugs. If you dont have a compression tool pull the spark plugs and see what they look like. Most likely you will find one that is very different in appearance from the others. Take a pic or two of that one and post it, that will go a long...
I would say this is words of wisdom here. When my motor went down I spent FOREVER and a ton of money getting my car running again because I was too impulsive and wanted to buy only the best. I wish I would have been smarter about how I approacehd the situation.Prostreet, what do you think...
While keymaster is a bit rough with some of his comments, I must say you do know quite a bit about this topic. To tell you the honest truth, we used a 95 ECU that was reprogrammed. Using the T25 wastegate actuator, as well, to hold the butterfly arm closed, but not sure.I just cannot...
Yah I loved my yellow baby, but if you noticed my profile it was stolen from me Jan 2005. :sosad:I am looking to finally buy another one. Do you think I should track down my insurance company and see if I can buy my car back on salvage title? The exterior is in perfect condition. The...
Hey everyone. I just moved up here from the San Antonio area. We used to go to Tim's shop Maximum Velocity to buy our stuff or over to ... well Im having a mental block right now. Anyway, are there any good DSM shops in the Houston area. I live in the north parts, woodlands area.Thanks...
While I have no idea why you are wanting these comparisons done here is what I know. They are absolutely and completely different. I probably do not have to tell you this but the 420a is a Chryster motor, aluminum heads. The ONLY thing a 4g63 and 420a share is the dispacement, at 2.0L and...
I like Tein personally. But I am a major performace freak. My last DSM had Eibach springs and KYB shoks. My M3 has Tein. The tein freakin rock. I absolutely love them. My next DSM will probably sport Tein.I see you have a 97 GSX... here is the information I came up with on Tein...
I suppose you would need to be very careful in purchasing a JDM motor say online, in which you have never seen the motor. We used to buy our motors from a reputable shop in San Antonio that did an inspection of the motors before they came in.The one I helped a friend install was a...
I applogize if I offended you there, I would like to point out though that I did start my entire post off with:
"If I am not mistaken"
It has been about 2 years since I have done anything with my last DSM (It was stolen from me Jan 2004, gutted and totalled). In any case, I did not notice...
If I am not mistaken (it has been almost 2 years since I worked on my DSM) all 2nd gen (knows as 7 bolt) motors are more prone to crank walk than the 1st gen (6 bolt)motors.Crankwalk is often used as a DSM specific term that identifies the issue of the crank moving off its center position...
Majik could you email me your friends information to:[email protected] might be intrestested in talking to him. I am selling my 4 door M3 daily driver and couldnt mind having two dsm's :p on daily one race. How many miles does he have on his btw? Thanks for the replies.As...
Hello everyone, it has been a while since i have been an active memeber around here. Its been 1 1/2 years since my yellow baby was stolen from me, stripped gutted and totalled. :toobad:I am now ready to buy another DSM though and I am actively looking for a 97-99 in PERFECT condition. I...
Ok, Here is the most underated team in the league with the most underated series in these playoffs:The Dallas Mavericks whoopin the snot out of a very very good Mephis Grizzlies team.Beyond that, Dirk deserved MVP after leading a 60 win team in a year ppl were saying they wouldnt win 50...
The XS Power Turbo with Tail 38mm waitsegait, OBX exhaust mani and a Blitz BOV (Im still gonna use my HKS) ran me about $880 w/ shipping. So yes its a great deal as long as it holds up... should though. The other stuff is what killed me... AEM wideband 02 was like $455...The 9k also...
you spend ALL Sunday afternoon reading "you might be a DSMer if..."... and realize that all of them apply to you, if not now when u get ur car running again :p... while reading "you might be a DSMer if" you remeber why you hate your car and then 3 minutes later think about spending YET...
Good question... I dont know the dimensions off hand... Ill look them up real fast, i do know tho that it is 3" inlets.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=7954941224&rd=1Dimensions - 23" wide (31" with endtanks), 11.75" tall, 3" thickEndtanks...
Thats my old car. I sold it for my now yellow AWD turbo...I still loved my 420A Talon, it was fun and never broke :) . I drive a BMW M3 daily driver which is nice... but im getting married this summer so I'll prolly get another 420A for a second daily driver for my self and let her drive...
Shattered piston, running too lean (i learned a lesson tho)... melted the sparkplug and it impacted the piston and shattered it... ouch. EGT was pegged about 1600F but I was killin a prelude so I didnt stop :thumbdown ...Brandon
Ok,With the motor build they told me they would balance the crank and rotating assembly for $200. Blueprinting was free (basic blueprinting I suppose).
I went with it because I am looking to turn 9k RPM when I get the 1G head rebuilt (stage 2--down the road), and have a galant 5th gear...
Edit to this post: The peopel at DSA motorsports ripped me off, gutted my car and tried to sell it. They took my 3150 and ran. Jerks, just getting my car back and its all stripped :(I haven't posted in a long time, mainly because I blew the motor in my car and its been hell trying to...
In my experience no single car is necissarly "reliable" they all seem to break ... but I get what you are saying*I have a couple of DSMs, my 99 GSX was totalled so I moved what I could of it over to my 95 Talon TSI AWD so I just called it a 99 Talon TSI AWD, since its like a conglomeration...
Well yes thats a costly motor build but... 12.2 is my immediate goalI eventually want a consistent reliable 10 sec car...you are all right tho, it would be a waist of my money right now, I appologize as well about the cast iron sleeves bit, I talked to Tim - another DSM specialist and he...
Like I said I have a friend with a 1G DSM that had his sleeved and when he shattered a piston (running a 100 or shot shot of Zex nitrous) there was minor internall damage... he had cylender 3 i beleive re-sleeved for like $250... bought 1 new piston and all new rings... put it back together and...
Well man, true it can probably run at higher boost levels...up to 30 or possibly higher, but the higher above 22-24psi (where its really rated for) the more strain you put on it...The bearings and fan blads can only handle so many RPMs, u start pushing that and you might be severely...
Ok, thanks (im learning too man ;) )Makes since, I had known that ignition starts before TDC so that the power is trasfered at the exact moment which it can be most beneficial... BUT i did not realize that retarding the timing to cool the surface temp is how the motor works to prevent...
Haha, yeah sumin like that... preignition (sorry I have a bad habbit of calling it Predetination-thats the way i first heard it) its bad stuffNE way im not an expert on exactly how all this works, I just understand where you are coming from and that too many terms can get confusingWhen...
Thats a good idea, I was actually thinking of putting in a JDM motor and building this block that way (so I would have a backup motor... and a JDM one at that)*Do you know ne good places where you can get a motor bored .40 over and sleved (i want cast iron sleeves) I know where my Honda...
once again man, i am not askin for an ANSWER to a question... i am asking for OPINIONS and OBSERVATIONS from other DSM tuners who may have done soemthing similar and found a better way or found out sumithin i dont know (and believe me i know there is a lot i dont know)when i get my motor...
thats what im thinkin... its just $ starts to pile up quick... im doin the t3/t4 1st gen built head and motor rebuild... i can go all out just have to budget more.... i think thats what im gonnna do since the car is running good, be patient save up a few more bucks and go all out
exactly i never asked for someone to magically tell me if my internalls are currently ok...just lookin for someone who rebuilt a 4g63 with around 140-160k miles and give me a ball park as to what kinda shape the stuff was in...if i get say 10 differnt oppionions/observations on the...
