Where the starter is located and the myriad of lines, hoses and cables that you have to fish it through make it very difficult the first time around! I deposited a fair amount of blood and skin getting it out! Once I had gotten it out though and knew how to navigate the "maze", it went in easier...
Less stuff to go wrong on a GS, so by reasoning less maintenance, but any car will fall apart if ya don't take care of it. Also though, a turbo does put a LOT of stress on an engine, even though they're built for it I think they are a higher maintenance machine than n/t. IMHO though having a DSM...
Ok, replaced the starter this morning (with new solenoid of course), an act of which by itself should bestow the rank of "master mechanic" to any who can accomplish such a feat! So lets see how it goes!
Just pulled my starter....JUDAS PRIEST on a PONY! What a pain! On my way to town to get a new one.OK, new starter is in! Actually was easier putting back in than taking out, go figure? Also found oil in my upper IC pipe so I put a "catch can" on my PVC hose.
So I thought my starter relay was bypassed, but apparently the module under the radio on the far right is the S/R, but the module to the left of it IS bypassed....what is it? (sorry the pic so bad, I just stuck my phone under console and snapped a photo)
I have considered that , If it were the battery it would drag or just click, but I think your on to something with the starter going bad. It's up on ramps now, so I'll check out the starter. Also, both times I've had to push start the car :( it throws a check engine light, any idea what that is...
Turn the key and have plenty of power but starter would not engage. Car normally starts WITHOUT depressing clutch pedal even though plunger switch on clutch IS plugged in. Starter relay is bypassed via connecting the appropriate wires. I pulled the NSS out of the top of tranny and had son...
If ya do get another motor keep your old one to rebuild/learn on! Don't let it go as a "core" if ya can help it. Welcome to DSM's They're a blast while they run! :hellyeah:
I know what ya mean, I used to live in Eastern Oregon, now I live on the coast and I have to carry a sheet of 450 grit sandpaper and a can of Rustoleum in my back pocket at all times! :)
Interesting vid Chumpa, because our cars aren't complicated enough already! LOL! Seriously though, pretty amazing that they can interface with the supercharger with such precision and on demand power!
Sorry the pics weren't better quality, but all of your input is still helpful. It doesn't seem to burn oil but I'll definitely keep a close watch for that. Maybe next time I should put in bpr7es instead of 6's. But I was under the impression cooler plugs were for modded motors, this one is bones...
I put in bp6res gapped at .28-.30. gonna pull em in a week when my spark plug wires get here to check them. The ones I pulled were also bp6res but some of them had WIDE gaps +.50!
When I made my comments earlier I was of the impression this was a "street" build not necessarily for the track. Sorry to make such an assumption and sound like a noob! Still though, looks cool! :)
Perhaps I misunderstood his intention, I'm not aware that his build is for the track in which case any roll cage is better than NO roll cage in the event of a roll over crash, even if doesn't meet some arbitrary specification from a bureaucratic organization. And in truth, I don't think any of...
I dig it man! Roll cages rock whether they are meant to be used or not! If I had the resources and skill I'd put one in my car just for sh**s and giggles. I had a 79 Trans Am with an after factory roll bar, looked way cool. and so does yours! :hellyeah:
Welcome aboard! I'm pretty new here too but this site is a WEALTH of information! There probably isn't anything that can go wrong with your car that some one here hasn't dealt with before! :)
As of late my car began to cut out at about 4500 rpm. What could it be I wondered and immediately I go through a mental checklist of the possible culprits. Fuel pressure regulator gone bad? Mysterious boost leak somewhere in the IC system of hoses or BOV? Possibly this is the excuse I need to...
In a world of high tech turbochargers, dsm links, maft's and a myriad of other costly and complicated components we modify on our cars, it's easy to forget or overlook what a difference something as simple and cheap as a new set of spark plugs can make! A new set of plugs made a HUGE difference...
Battery, MAF, air intake, intercooler possibly since I don't see any piping for it. Plug wires , hoses, manifold, turbo, etc, etc..The list goes on :( . Your mechanic buddy needs to pony up your parts or you need a donor car to fill in the missing pieces. And thats just what can be seen in the...
Congrats on your new car! Yeah it needs a lot of work, but owning a DSM is as much a hobby as it is for something to drive! If you can find a shell and can afford it that may be the way to go unless your a body guy (which I am NOT :( ), that rust is definitely bad. Good luck with your new ride...
I've had fuel pump relays go bad on me to where they would pump while cranking the starter, but then stop when the key was in the "run" position. Not sure if this applies to DSM's or not. Also, maybe hit it with a little starter fluid, that would let you know if it's a fuel problem or an...
So this morning I go to start my car and nothing! I have power but the starter would not engage! After work (I had to take another vehicle :( ) I discovered that if I hold the key in the start position while wiggling the gearshift (with clutch pedal depressed!) then my little rocket will roar...
I cussed to it as I turned the key and nothing happened! Had to take the truck to work, ugh! :( After I got home discovered that if I wiggle the gear shift (with clutch pedal depressed!) and hold the key in the start position then VOILA', she roars to life, need to find gear position sensor and...
I've heard of this concept before, and it's very intriguing. Hard to generate enough sustainable watts though to make it feasible. I'm curious, are those lipo's charging while the vehicle is running? If so how do you plan on charging them fast enough to keep up without burning them up? I'm...
So there seems to be some confusion about which "cheap" items you can get off ebay that will still perform well, so here is my 2 cents worth. I just installed my ebay "Injen clone" air intake on my 2g Talon so here is the skinny: The outside has a nice finish but the inside is just rough cast...
