I'm looking for a really good local shop to rebuild my GSX's transmission. Does anyone know of a good shop within the Boston/Providence region? Thanks,
Joe
Thank you Tim for your response. It is already my understanding that my transmission will need a rebuild. My question is, what part within the transmission that would likely cause this noise? This is just to further my knowledge of the DSM transmissions.I also would like to inform the...
When I dropped the transmission when i replaced the clutch I refilled the transmission fluid with Pennzoil synchromesh. The transmission has always shifted like butter.
The car was babied. That's why I'm having a hard time knowing that the car has a damaged transmission. I bought this car of the original owner. The guys was in his 60's and the only reason why he was selling it was because he was having a hard time getting in and out of the car. When I changed...
Since I bought this 98' GSX, I noticed some sort of grinding/rubbing sounds in the drivetrain. At first, the noise was worse and because the noise was not present when the clutch pedal was pushed in, I thought it was the TOB. Now considering the car had 118k miles on it and still had the...
When I replaced the clutch and TOB. Everything seemed to be tight and fine. The only thing i didn't do, was resurface the flywheel. It seemed to be in decent shape. I know it will shorten the life on the clutch. This noise was doing this before I replaced the TOB and clutch as well. Here's a...
OK guys! Finally found out where the noise is coming from! It's coming from the transmission! I jacked the car up off all fours and had someone shift the car into 3rd,4th and 5th gear while I was under the car. Sounds is defiantly coming from transmission. What part in the trans is causing...
What's going on guys?I've got a 98 GSX and I'm looking for a stock stereo for it. I literally just need to barrow it for a day to see if mine isn't working properly. Since i bought the car, she never got a clear radio station. The antenna was broken, and I installed a new power antenna...

When I removed both front axles, both seems to look in pretty good shape. The boots were in perfect shape. Grinding noise only happens in higher gears. (3rd-5th) The noise is louder when I'm in 5th at low speeds while accelerating. You can hear it in the video, every time I let my foot of the...
I already flushed out both the T-case and Rear Diff with Valvoline 75w90 GL-5 gear oilHere's a video. The slight grinding sound almost sounds like gears meshing together irregularly. You will hear it in the clip. Every time I accelerate you'll here the grinding. Every time I decelerate, the...
Thank you again Love2Rallye for your input. You've been a great help on this subject!Regarding the diagram you attached in the last post. The plug that is labeled hatch glass antenna might be something else. Both are plugged into my stock unit and when I pulled that one out the radio lost...
Ok so today I popped the hood and reved the engine a couple of times to see any motor movement. There was alittle bit of movement, but that is what to be expected, I believe. I visually check all three tranny mounts when I dropped the transmission and all of them looked to be in pretty good...
Yeah, it works in the ON position and when i turn the car off, it goes back down. The antenna coax cable is plugged in correctly and still does not work. I turned the stock radio to a bunch of known local stations and I get nothing but static. I cant even hear any music... just static. Is...
Motor Mounts? I never though of this being the issue? How would worn motor mounts cause this noise? I thought i was getting closer to the issue, knowing that replacing the t-case and rear diff oils made the issue worse.I'm at a lost here.
OK guys. I finally got to work on the car this weekend.I dropped the transmission and replaced the TOB, clutch and pressure plate. I took her out for a spin this morning and she still is making a noise. On acceleration in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear I can still hear a slight grinding noise coming...
OK guys. I finally had some time this weekend to do some work on the GSX. The correct connections are as follows.Aftermarket AntennaRED Connects to Red wire on factory harness ( content power )
GREEN Connects to Black wire w/ yellow stripe ( Ignition )
BLACK Grounded to carThese...
Thank you Luv2rallye. If you look at the two wires that i spliced ( black wire w/ white stripe and white wire with black stripe ) you can see I already tried that connection strategy.I think I'm messing up with the ground. I attached the ground wire right to the car, which it looks like I'm...
Thanks for the help guys. I still haven't been able to work on the car since it's at my parent's house. I can't believe no one has bought this type of aftermarket antenna for their DSM. I don't have a problem using the multimeter, but it would save a lot of cutting and splicing wires performing...
Thank you guys for clearing up which wires are what within the stock harness. Did the person find out where the three wires need to be spliced to? This tread really never ended with a solution. I started up a thread similar to this with pictures of the aftermarket antenna motor with the three...
I heard and did some research on Pennzoil Synchromesh. I know a lot of guys on this forum are running this in their trannys full time and can be bought at your local Napa/Autozone stores. It's a lot cheaper than Redline MT90 and is proven for our brass metal parts within our transmissions. This...
What's going on fellow DSMersI did a very intense search on replacing the power antenna with an aftermarket unit and found a couple of threads but never really found a solution.
In this Resolved thread I found out which each wire is for but I'm having a hard time figuring out which wires I...
Thank you so much guys for the responses.I took it out one more time, and I'm certain it's a transmission issue. The slight metal grinding sound goes away when i push in the clutch. My question is, why does the grinding sound only happens (while driving) in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear and not the...
Higher rpms?If I'm in 1st gear at 4k rpms, how is this any different than 4k rpms in 5th gear?I understand how a throw out bearing works, I'm just confused why it only happens in the higher gears. I've had a throw out bearing go on me and it effected all gears, didn't matter if I was in 1st...
If it was the throw out bearing, wouldn't you hear this noise in all gears? I only hear it in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear while driving regularly. As soon as I push in the clutch, the noise stops. I can drive around in 1st and 2nd gear completely fine without hearing the slight grinding noise.
What was the solution to this problem? There are many threads of the exact problem, but no solution. I'm having this same issue. Have anyone found the cause of this transmission sound? Thanks,
Joe
Hey guys, I've finally been able to figure where the grinding noise is coming from. It almost sounds like its coming from the rear end or driveshaft. Again, the noise only happens when i'm under load. (3rd, 4th or 5th gear). When I accelerate in 1st or 2nd gear, I do not hear this noise. Could...
Hahahaha you got the whole exhaust system if that's exactly what you get in the mail.Problem with those eBay exhaust systems are they typically rust really quick because they dont use stainless. Those headers almost always crack within a year or so as well. This one looks like it has a flex...
Sorry I didn't realize you had a TSI. For some reason I thought you has a GS (16" stock rims, I believe). I was a told awhile ago that the rule of thumb was you were only allowed to increase your rim size by 1 inch from stock size.I wasn't referring to rotational stress, I was referring to...
You'll be buying new struts in the near future with those new 18's. Remember, with any new upgraded part typically adds stress to surrounding older stock parts. With those new 18" rims, you'll have thinner tires, which adds more stress to your struts and springs.
Car is looking great! loving those brembos.Quick question, and it might be a silly one. What kind of rotors did you buy? GSX ones or are they Evo 8 Rotors?
Sorry to Highjack but does anyone know the size of the plastic fasteners? I've been looking online for Mitsubishi fasteners, but a lot of the options specify a size in mm. Does anyone know the typical size for the splash guard under the fenders? Only reason why i asked because it relates to the...
Welcome man!I, myself am i new member in the Boston area. I literally just picked up a 98 GSX a month ago. I was a 3000GT VR4 guy for a long time, but had to sell all my toys to buy a house. I couldn't last with out a Mitsubishi so i picked up a GSX off the original owner. These things are so...
