This dyno graph is for an example. My 420a turbo hits peak boost, then drops off power much like this graph. What could be causing this issue, and does anyone else with a stock head, have any dyno graphs to post for comparison. Boost peaks at 4750rpm, then falls off a good 30-40hp. On 18psi car...
I never expected to setup a my car like that, I just couldn't figure out how that setup worked. I'm using the AEM 1913, with FIC 775cc Injectors, 16psi and will up the boost when I get it tuned when warm weather comes around.
Does it do it consistently or just when you start it up in the morning? What were the compression numbers? They should be pretty high. I think a stock 420a should see between 200-220psi.
The car once again just randomly wouldn't start this morning and about all day. I wasn't getting 12v to the middle pin on the coil, nor was i getting the 8v to the cam sensor. The black/red wire coming from the ASD relay was only read 3v which it should be 12. I used a jumper wire from the...
Yeah, it sounds like a whistle but it isn't. I took the turbo off, and the sound is gone. So, Ill be looking to buy another t3/t4. Garrett, precision, holset,
Set the regulator to 20lbs and this thing is making the noise when I'm not evening building positive pressure. I'm going to remove the turbo tomorrow and check to see if the flywheel is hitting the dust shield. That's about all I know to do unless it's something internal
It's not a leak as far as the boost leak test went. It's something sounds like a "friction" type noise. Metal rubbing some kind of metal but I'm unsure. I'll unbolt the turbo tomorrow to verify that it isn't it.
Alright guys, dropped the car off at my Tuning shop, Brutal Speed and Tuning, in Hickory, NC. I had a lot of wiring fixed under the hood because of an issue, but that issue still exists. When the VSS is plugged up, the car will not get spark whatsoever. However, if I unplug the sensor, the car...
My timing is spot on. I'm not getting constant voltage to the coil pack. I have voltage running to the ASD relay though, but none at the coil pack... Should these cars see a certain amount of voltage with the key "ON" at the cam sensor too? I get 5v reference at the cam sensor (i forget what pin...
I know this has been beat numerous times but I need help. My car as stated above has fuel but will not fire at all. The way our cars work is the coil gets a signal from the cam and crank position sensor correct in order for there to be spark. I've replaced the cam sensor to find out it still...
I picked up a used 2000 neon transmission. My 5th gear went out and would not stay in gear at all. I use atf-4....Now the gears are taller in the neon transmission if I'm correct. My question is, is it a noticeable difference in torque? I running 15lbs of boost.Second do I keep my speed...
You can mark it as resolved :P after pulling off a ton of electric tape that the previous owner had on the cam sensor harness plug, I found 3 naked wires. They all were touching and causing the one of the relays to go crazy. Fixed the wiring and it didn't start, so I bought a new cam sensor and...
Alright man, thanks. It's still sitting at work and I really would rather drive it home than have it towed. It was running fine yesterday while driving and then it just quits. The ASD relay clicks on like it should. I don't know the symptoms of a cam sensor, but it seems to me that if the sensor...
Can someone help me out with this. I've been battling it for the past 3 days. First off as the title states, the car has absolutely no spark. When the key is turned to "ON" the fuel pump primes. Also, the WHITE relay clicks on too. However, the black relay does not click on when the switch is...
So far the issue is fixed. I took the valve cover back off, cleaned up all the silicone, and then applied it again, except this time I made sure I sat the cover down straight down instead of having to slide it around to get it aligned up.Thanks again for the replies.
The bolts that I have on there now is what come stock I suppose. It has the valve cover grommets, and the bolt has like a "built on washer." Not a washer I can remove. Is there suppose to be more?and yes I torqued them down like they should be, and in sequence to the thread that you linked...
Thanks for all the info guys. I think it's a warped valve cover. After the rtv set up and cured I drove it some. I fixed half the leak with it, but it's still pouring out between bolt 7 and bolt 1 (the back rear cam gear side) I guess I can give my local machine shop a call and see if it can be...
I'm positive. It is coming from under the gasket. I can watch the car run, and see oil start seeping underneath the gasket. When I took the gasket back off, the whole surface it's suppose to seal, is cover in oil. I'm out of options to what to even try. It leaks enough to lose a quart in about...
I know there are multiple threads on this issue. I've read the link that Paul posted on one of the threads a few years ago.Anyhow, after I installed the valve cover and ran the car a few minutes, oil started leaking underneath the back side of the valve cover. It comes straight underneath...
Rich wise at highway speed is 11.5ish but bounces to .6 every now and again. Lean in boost in 11.9 to 12.0. I've got into boost 2 or 3 times just to see the readings it was giving me. When I let my friend drive it, I have no idea How hard he drove it. He didn't even drive it 5 minutes though...
I also forgot to mention that last Thursday it pulled 153 in all 4 cylinders without the accelerater pressed down. So with it pressed down it should've pulled around 175 to 180. Now with the accelerater not pressed in it only pulls 120. But wot it pulls 150-155. I let a friend drive it, and I...
had the head shaved twice, the block decked once. there is 4 thousandths piston to wall clearance. I believe it's because of the fuel I dumped in it by my faulty AFPR, and it hasn't allowed the rings to seat. I'll drive it safe for now, and just try to "break it in" and add a zinc additive if...
Engine was warm. Built on Wiseco 8.8:1 .040 Pistons. May be the gauge is leaking around the o ring? At the least it should pull 170 and when it was in the 190's that seemed right... and around 500 miles, but I flooded the oil pan pretty bad with gas around 300. Shut it off and had it towed home
So, on the new motor I decided to do a compression test...I did cylinder 4 first, the number came out at 195. I did cylinder 1 next and it read up to 165, then 150, then 155....So, I did cylinder 4 again, and it read 155...During the break in period, my AFPR went bad, and dumped...
Since mine is turbo I gapped them to .028 from what other 420a guys have told me. Ill fill it out in the morning. My laptop is in the car an it's late lol
I'm about 99 percent sure its the AFPR. The plugs look like crap, so I've already got a new set. I ordered another AFPR, and I'm just gonna wait till then. I think the compression is good, just the spark plugs are so bad that I think it's causing it not to start. Did yours work after replacing...
My pistons have 4 thousandths piston to wall clearance. Checked them myself when I learned how to build it. It has so few miles on it that it may not have the rings seated yet. Even If they were seated and you did nothing but flood the car, I'm sure some will eventually leak down to the pan. Idk...
I had the bottom end rebuilt. The first time I had it built, the block was bored bigger than my pistons. Some of the machine shops are crazy around here. The car ran fine but once the exhaust cracked, it quit running all together and would not fire. You can smell the car flood itself, and the...
I know they're are other threads but I'd like a better understanding. My Eclipse has been rebuilt, once again.Just not got about 500 miles in the motor. Ball joint broke while driving, ad done some damage body wise. Fixed it drove it home, to find out the exhaust was broke almost in half above...
Guys, I know I said Piston 1 was bad, but I was wrong. It has a few "pre detonation" marks on it. I took it to a machine shop that builds racing motors for some smaller Arca Teams, and does a little bit or work with Jack Rousch. They said the pistons looked great, and those small detonation...
Timing belt is set right. I though it was a possibility with the way it was misfiring, but it checks out good. The plugs just want fire right. They're getting soaked in oil. I don't understand how compression is so low after a fresh build. It doesn't make sense. It ran fine at 125 with no...
Well, I'll post back results asap. I'm pretty annoyed at all the money that was thrown into this thing, but I guess that what happens when you get into this type of game.
I don't think the rings were installed incorrectly. If they were, then it would havve been smoking from the start. It has 6k miles, and was running slightly lean. Never really got on it though. 125 compression is the same on all cylinders. I kept the stock PCV Valve, could that be it? I took the...
maybe you should learn to read before making a stupid comment. I said, I've heard compression tests give better numbers at WOT(Wide Open Throttle.) If I said throttle body then it was a mistake.yeah, maybe you should go back and just look over everything. I'm going to start an argument. I'm...
It's not that Im completely stupid when it comes to building motors, it's just that I don't have the time. That's why I paid someone to do it, and I thought he would be the best choice because he was a mechanic at Chrysler. Maybe I was wrong, but if I do the build, then it will definitely take...
you have to understand, the motor is built for roughly 450whp. The guy that built it on the other hand probably F'd it up. It was fine when it was first boosted. I'm just so pissed off right now, that I can't think straight. Everything was bought that was needed to, and all the necessary machine...
Did you do your test with the throttle in? I doubt it would make that much difference, but I mean, I've driven it at 125psi all this time before I put the turbo on and it never smoked. It ran fine for me.
Those numbers should drop though if I have mine built on 8:8.1 JE Pistons, and it never smoked. I drove it 1k miles before ever putting the turbo on the motor. The car did run a little lean, but I never got into boost that much, just for the very reason of it having problems. When I say lean, I...
