4th is a known issue and as you see from Ricky's post I put in a considerable amount of time and effort trying to come up with a cost effective solution but in the end with electron beam welding and the cost of very high end gears we axed that idea.If the gears are run cool and not put...
Money has nothing to do with it but I will say I am glad the GTR platform came around , otherwise I would most likely have moved on. In reality the GTR allows us money to stay in business and still be able to offer the same pricing on dsm/evo products.
I'll just go ahead and chime in here.Vince, when you say in boost it wont go into gear that right there shows a problem. The trans doesn't care if it is at 0 boost or 50 psi. What does care is the clutch which under load can flex and bind on the input shaft and you cannot simulate this...
Someone overseas will be enjoying a 7 second Talon. Hopefully they keep the setup generally the same. It would be sad for it to be torn apart.(edit)April Fools(/edit)
The last I checked on the DSM Phil was hand buffing the cage and had the roof cut off to be able to paint the cage better :D I know it is all e-coated, blocked and primed so I dont expect much longer but I have not been putting any pressure on him. He has a business to run as well and this is...
Tanner,This time I am sure you will leave the shipping plug in until you put the speedo back in :) That washer bounced around and found everything it could. I still have it if you want to get your revenge on it haha.
Andrew,Please remember we have a FEW THOUSAND trannies out and I will go out on a limb and say far more than anyone else so please do the math. Our failure rate is extremely low especially considering most of the problems are customer induced. Wrong oil and clutch problems are by far the...
No real updates on the car since last but I did knock the dust off of the evo and run it at the dsm/evo shootout. The evo is a very low mileage 03 (6000 miles)FP hta 35 .82
Shearer header kit
Fox lake ported head with ferrea valvetrain
Fp old school cams 264/265
Br 2.3 je/crower

Well, it has become very apparent that the car will not be in rolling chassis form for the shootout and will not be there.Phil and I talked today and neither of us will accept anything but perfection on the car and to try to rush it at this point after waiting so long would defeat the...
I loved the PR trip and will be going back many times I am sure. The car will race on PR soil in the future. We just need time to get the car sorted out once done and build our inventory of spare parts back up.
Believe me guys I am very disappointed and honestly some of the things that happened (cars getting bumped ahead of me) has led me to lose a lot of respect for the shop that did the work.As for Brent, he is awesome. Most probably don't know him well and most of the time he is not a people...
Quick update for those that remember I still have a race car:thumb:The car is offically at the body shop and the last I seen it was upside down and headed for the sand blasters to get it prepped and ready for zinc coating. I should have something to at least roll out of the trailer at the...
Hey guys, Sorry for the lack of updates. The car is still at the chassis shop !!! As you can imagine I am highly upset it is taking so long and it is to the point that it may get ugly if I do not have it in the next few weeks. It will still need to go to Phil down at first impressions for...
I dont have a lot of time but let me answer a few.Of course I know pinks won't take a 7 second clase but think of all the exposure a dsm would get. And hey he is my myspace friend haha.It will still have the dash the console and as much as the rear plastic as will fit. The stock wing in...
It is a tough balancing act but the bottom line is I want to go faster.. much faster and the only way to do that is making it safer as well. I am not out to get killed in this thing though, I am out to gain the respect of everyone that cracks on or otherwise jokes about dsm's. I will be most...
The cage is a 25.1 spec certified to 6.50. think of it as a pro stock chassis. The hard part is making it look like a car again. The turbo will be a gt47 or a hybrid version of it.
basically we have to get the car lower and the volks we have will not work to tuck the wheels in more. We did narrow the front k member which was ahuge job in itself to get the geometry correct for no bumbsteer. We also need wider wheels and volk does not make a 15x10 or anything really close...
Sorry guys I made a post and must have forgot to submit reply.Car is coming along nice but slow. We are down to the rear hatch and wing and some tin work then choosing new wheels. Unfortunately the volks will not work anymore.I expect about another month in paint after that and a few...
Well where do I start. Yes I will race the car again but I doubt it will make any passes this season. It came down to safety. The car could have still run the way it was and I am sure it would have clicked off some 7.5's but if I had an accident there was a good chance at well over 195 mph...
Asa general rule of thumb a methanol car will run better with higher compression. I run 10.5 :1 and 60 lbs of boost and sometimes 100 shot of nitrous on top of that. Next year we will be going with a much larger turbo so it should get interesting :)
I drive the car to the lanes make a pass and drive it back to the pits. In fact the car is very hard to keep up to operating temp therefore overheating is not a concern at all.
9" designates that it is a 9" ring gear, it is not a 9". I don't do very much that is just plain normal and simple and I have reasons for doing things differently. By the way it is not a 9" :)
Guys you have to realize I am extremely busy. Most of the time someone sends me a link and I click on it and respond. I don't go around searching for threads about my car.As always I appreciate the support.John
First off I want to say a big thank you to the hundreds of fans that came up and said hi. It is truly amazing how many people still like a 16 yr old dsm :) We had a decent weekend but learned there is so much more left. Keep watching for quicker times.John
Guys, You have to realize we ship out on the average 10-15 trannies a week. The percentage of problems is less then 1 in a 100. We try our best, we are human and things happen but running to the message board before we can verify or even explain why a problem happened is not the best way to do...
As far as not getting ahold of us did you try during business hours ? We have all calls returned and no messages. The only hole that is used is the one in the lower left. There should be a round rubber vent in that hole. Check in the box or look around on your floor. They are easily...
Most if not all trans issues after a rebuild are from improper clutch disengagement. The trans cannot be blamed if the input shaft is still trying to be driven from a dragging clutch disc. Did you follow simple steps to insure it was installed correctly? Are the dowel pins in good condition...
Sorry guys, We will not be able to make it to the first race or two this year. We are making some major changes for this season and with running a business the car has to come second sometimes.I am sure it will be a great time as always at a NOPI race and I encourage all to go and hang out...
As always it is best to contact us with any issues before posting. Doing so will save us both time and aggravation. The magnet we use is very strong and it is normal to have fine shavings on it.We never recommend using a slave cyl extension rod either. Find the cause of the problem...
The 93 and later fwd only cars had a larger axle shaft and these diffs were set up for the larger axle. There was obviously no thought put into it because even if it did fit the speedometer gear would never be able to come in contact with the speedometer pinion.
Josh,
I would rather you contact me privately on this matter. I can assure you that there is no possible way that the unit I had would ever fit a dsm fwd case. Like I said before there is no amount of machining possible that would allow this to fit.
Just a quick update guys. The obx unit that I received with a customers trans does not and will not fit a fwd case. There are several reason why and no amount of machining can fix the problem. The speedo gear also will never come in contact with the speedo pinion gear.So I would assume...
I have a lot of catching up to do answering questions and hopefully things will calm down a little since racing season is over.On the windshield, We tried running the percy speedglass 3/16" and was told it would not need a brace and you can make it look oem..they were wrong. It looks...
The autos will not go 170 + in 3rd and 4th is to weak, not that I would use one anyways. Driving the car is an absolute blast and an auto would take that away. Every pro import in the 6's uses a std trans, they are a clutchless gforce but they are still a manual. You really don't even have...
Hey guys, I didn't forget about you. I am waiting to upload a few videos and will try and get them up today. Thanks for the tons of support you give me. The e-mails, phone calls, people at the track etc. is what keeps me pushing it to the next level.
If you must know yes I was on the dyno but was only checking to make sure the secondaries were coming in and transitioning properly... thats all. MPH speaks horspower to me. So to me I did no "dyno" the car even though it was on a dyno. Call Tym and ask him if I was trying for any #. I put...
8.43 vidHere is a video of the 8.43. Notice the bad launch and then it takes off like a rocket. I have never had it pull so hard. We are getting closer but those first few feet will easily hurt you at least a tenth. We are going to be trying a new system for getting the antilag to...
Well , being very frustrated with how the car was leaving I had the bright idea of leaving the line with a little over 30 lbs of boost and had the 100 shot coming on also. Bad things happened to the transfer case.
Thanks guys and thanks to Ron Shearer for all the help even with the temps. There are several reason the mph was down but they will be taken care of before the next race. We normally make soem major changes before each race trying to get it dialed in. I still expect some decent drops in et...
