Hey DSM community,

I drive a 94 Talon and its about -3 to -12℃ on any given day here. My car will heat up at idle and the needle will be in the middle. If I am driving around town (50-70km/h) it is fine but sits around a third on the dummy gauge, as soon as I jump onto the highway, (100-120km/h) the car runs cold as a witches tit, no more lukewarm air, and the needle pegged down at the C. I'm not sure if this is normal for these cars or not, but I'd like to be able to feel my feet while driving. Any suggestions?

also check coolant levels (which you will do with a thermostat i'm sure).. one of my other vehicles will run fine all summer and in the winter it will do the same thing as you're describing. I'll check coolant and top off and it will be fine all winter.

Update, replaced thermostat, no different after an hour of driving. Have topped off coolant also.. Maybe it is just too cold outside? Its -21℃ today

Have you tried to limit the airflow to the radiator like diesels do? Once the thermostat opens it will not close while it's running due to the pressure. Maybe install cardboard/rubber in front of the part of the radiator and see if that helps.

Yes,block off 75 percent or more of the radiator.

Last with her in my Maxima I was coming home from Alabama. It was 8dg f that morning. Car would not make heat even after driving for an hour.

I cut apart a soda can box I had in the trunk and shoved it down in Front of the radiator of the side of the road. Immediate results were hear that could defrost ALL the windows and a comfortable cabin.

Thanks guys, I had an old Tacoma that I used to do that to, just didnt want to seem like an idiot and be the first one to post up about blocking my radiator with a pizza box LOL

Update: pizza box stuffed between the rad support and the rad fixed the issue, thanks everybody for the input.
