Hi, guys.

I'm sure there are other threads about convertible top issues but I'm including a video to fully illustrate my issue and hopefully it will help others with similar issues...if we can get this resolved. It's probably a broken pin in the gear drive, but I'd like a little more reassurance before diving in to fix it. I will post another video when the problem is resolved with an explanation of exactly what was involved in the repair.

Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.

That is horrendous. I've had a few spyders and never heard that god awful noise. Does it do it when you manually put the top back? Or is it exclusively when using the motors?

I pulled the motor out of the offending side (http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/co...motor-removal-inspection-how-to-video.498120/), put the top in manual and pulled it up and put it down with no noise. I put the motor back in position and repeated the manual movement and could hear the noise.

Tomorrow I'm buying a pair of motors out of a 95-99 Celica. Hopefully that will be the end of the problem AND we will definitively know that Celica motors can be scavenged for spare / replacement motors.

Stay tuned.

Yes!

The '95 - '99 Toyota Celica convertible top motors will work in a 2g Eclipse Spyder. I had to splice the old connector onto the replacement motor and (although I might not have had to) I used my old transmission box, but otherwise it was a simple bolt in affair. The top goes up and down nice a quietly now.

Success!

I hope this helps someone out there some day.

Sorry to revive this - but are there any grease points on the top that you know of other than spraying WD-40 on moving points? I have a weird cracking noise when putting top up or down and it doesn't fold all the way into the back of the car like yours does...
