I have a 90 talon TSI and the oil filter that was on it was way smaller than the one I put on it. That it calls for at AutoZone. so I'm not sure if anyone knows what oil filter I might need? STP Number would be good?

I like the bosch 3323. Same filter as the tried and true Purolator pure 1 and around $3.50ish online. I buy a couple dozen at a time because they work on all my vehicles (Mitsu, Nissian, Acura/honda and mazda.)

Rockauto has wholesaler close outs sometimes. I have seen the high wnd bosch filters on there for less than half price. Last month I picked up Mobil 1 filters short fat that fit dsm for 2.50 shipped each. I bought dozens!! 12$ filter.

Yeah mobil 1, K&N, bosch, purolator, nappa gold, stp, wix all good filters...I cant say the same for the fram or the micro guard [which I have heard is the same as fram on the inside] but shame on them for at one point charging what they did and stp filters at one point were even cheaper then the fram but I digress if you can avoid the fram and orielys micro guard... do so.

oem or napa gold for me. I haven't used wix but they seem highly recommended. Any proof they are better than the ones I listed?

I started using the wix filters.
Wix is an awesome filter and makes filters for the majority of the oem community. The oil flow rate vs filtering characteristics of their filter element is second to none!

Bingo. they are in fact the same filter casings may differ but the napa gold is the same thing.

Its funny When i was newer to cars I always bought the fram because I liked the rubber coating on the filter ends. Little did i know I was using garbage :ohdamn:

Oh we all were at some point and time, blindly using fram oil filters LOL... well at least I did once:hmm:. I doubt using one or two fram or the orielys micro guard filters will totally wreck our cars, however the build of the filter has been proven to be vastly inferior to competitor brands, in both the price and design [in some cases] so all dsm'ers that have a fram filter on your car don't get scared panic and then scream "IT'S MOTOR REBUILD TIME", just change it to another one wix, stp, k&n,Bosch, nappa gold are all better proven options for the money.

I'm glad I saw this post. I've been a faithful FRAM user for years when it comes to oil filters but lately, I've been seeing a lot of posts saying they are garbage. I've only used WIX once but may start to switch. Probably be a toss up between WX or STP.

Last time I bought from a dealer was back in early '90's before internet. LOL I don't see myself using "stealerships" Gonna get one from O'Reilly's today.

He meant like ORDER from Extremepsi.com, the oem one's.

I've been running a Evo Wix filter lately. I've noticed high revs on startup, then settles. Very curious now, because I am coming from OEM 2g filters.

I prefer a filter designed for full synthetic such as k&n (Walmart for $10) or mobil one or Bosch. Also Walmart sells Mopar OEM filters, the same as Mitsubishi OEM, which is just an old school Denso paper filter found for like $3 on rockauto.

Since mine is completely stock, I never bothered to get any with performance or custom preferences. As long as it does the job, it's been all good. :D

Oh....

OEM mitsu micron rating is 40
Wix micron rating is 20

Added for more detailed reference:
  • 25 Microns = White blood cells
  • 40 Microns = Visible with naked eye
