No just loosen the alternator ( there is a bolt at the top of the alt bracket ) put the belt on and tighten it back up and your done.

Okay. Loosen the tensioner with a size 12 wrench. Once thats off, take off old pieces and makesure all pulleys are clean. Then place on new belt at the crank, then the upper middle one then the alternator. If it rodent fit easy, move the alternator by taking off driver tire and removing plastic piece behind it. The alternator is held on by a size 12. Or 14. Then replace that bolt and put on the tensioner and tighten up

Or do like I had too once to get home and wrap shoestrings around it to the crank. (Yeah. Awesome, right?)

There are three bolts that you need to mess with to install or adjust the alternator belt. There is the pivot bolt on the bottom, and the adjustment bolt and "lock down" bolt which are both on the top/driver's side. Loosen the pivot, loosen the "lock down", adjust the adjustment. It's that easy. You can lift up in the adjustment bolt and push the alternator towards the engine to get the new belt on. Then pull the alternator towards you, push the adjustment bolt back into place and tighten away. Once you reach the desired tension, secure it in place by tightening the pivot bolt and "lock down" bolt. It is a very, very easy process.

Isn t this what I said?

I don't really know what you said. You don't need to remove the tire or the plastic piece behind it and I don't know what a "rodent" has to do with your alternator.

Ebonics.

Good information though. To the OP, follow this man's words and you'll turn out just fine.

thanks for this info! My 45k mi belt has a hole in between 2 belt ribs; the rest of the belt looks ok so I wonder how soon I need to replace it.
Thanks!

Anything like that needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

Bump really for me -

so I have the kit and my belt is on its way out. I did loosen the tensioner thing and now I can't get the belt to come around the alt pulley and the nut that's holding the pulley. I've tried to see if the alt will wiggle a little to slide the belt out - but wont.

am I missing something??

Loosen the bottom pivot bolt too, then it should move. Take the adjuster bolt all the way out to make sure it isn't hanging up the adjustment. It's pretty easy and straight forward. No hidden bolts like the PS pump.

It was a fun adventure getting the belt off. My clearance was crap so i had to remove the driver front wheel and get to the bottom of the alt bolt and take that completely apart.

It’s off now!!

Most DSM "adventures" are like that but glad you got to it to replace it. There will be a next time, so now you've done it once! Good to hear!

I always keep an extra belt on hand ,blew up my belt at Canadian tire 2 weeks ago Due to me rushing to drive my car after a motor swap (had the pully for the alternator on the water pump flipped LOL)

Took 5 mins to throw another one on LOL
Didn't hit boost after that till I figured out my pully was flipped the wrong way LOL
