I don't see to many dsm/evos running Forced Inductions in the communities. My plan was to switch to them over Comp Turbo in 2016. My spec 72mm compressor with 83/75 turbine in 1.25 ar T4. Still being mocked up at Whalen's Speed R&D in Michigan. Hoping it soon make some serious JAM!!

We ran the 1.25 housing on a 475 with the 88/81 turbine and spool/boost recovery was god-awful. Car was almost undriveable and didn't gain any trap speed over the 1.10 housing. Might be fine on an auto, but on a manual with launch control at 8500 and anti-lag enabled it only made 7psi sitting still, fell completely out of boost leaving the line, and fell out again between the 1-2 shift with a dog box.

That's why I decided to go with smaller turbine.

In this case I don't think the turbine size has as much to do with it as the housing a/r, but I wish you the best...the 475 was just a stepping stone on the way to the 480 which is on the car now, I just happened to have the 475 sitting here and it gave us some valuable data along the way as well. So far the 480 is an absolute animal at 115 lb/min which is like 20 lb/min better than the billet 475 at the same boost level, and spool is almost identical as well which is crazy given the 15mm difference in the size of the compressor exducer.

My motor compression is pretty high LOL. Sounds and revs like the evo in extreme tuna vids LOL (I'm very serious). Ill see how turbo goes.

This why I'm not concerned. Here is vid of my first 67mm comp Turbo. Here is the log break down of regular 3rd gear pull log.

6.5k...4.8psi, at 6.7k...12.64psi, 8k finally hits 29psi = 693whp.

2 step 6.8k. let off at 8.5k

That is laggy as hell. No way I'd accept that. I have a 6466 on my car right now and have worked my ass off to get it to leave at 5500, and it goes 1.5's like that, makes 700 at 30psi, makes power to 10k, and goes 10's at 20psi right now. Unless your looking for a laggy dyno queen ditch that junk.

that's not turbo I made on this post. On paper the comp turbo was laggy but didnt feel laggy on my car. But motor a little different now. Have Curt brown head and new jmf drag and few other small changes.

In the video it's laggy. I'm telling you it will be a dissapointment. That FI stuff is for sloppy bs V8 guys, and look at them - they haven't figured out how to spool a turbo and make peak performance out of a given inducer size. It takes them 2 88mm to do what some of our guys are doing on a single 83 or smaller. The v8 guys need dump valves 400+in v8's and all sorts of trickery to spool 4000hp worth of turbo just to make 1500 and still run 9's half the time.

that's Comp Turbo in the video. From 2012 or 2013 something like that. We'll see how the 72mm go

Aaron Gregory went 8.4 on a forced inductions borg...... Also John Keesey the winner of some huge x275 races (more competitive than any import race arguably) has a FI turbo. I think Jake Montgomery also runs a FI 80 and just went into the 7s with it. I have one and am switching to a PTE to try something else but I think to call them terrible isn’t very intelligent.

Those numbers are not very relevant. I don't know about Jake, but AG went 7.50's on a FP, and I'm pretty sure he broke into the 7's on a 76mm from FP. Jake doesn't exactly push it that hard, he's out there trying to go rounds and have fun. No idea on the X275 stuff, but based on the fact those guys almost never use all the power those setups make, and have to really do some funky stuff to get them spooled, I don't see that guy as relevant at all. They are just not a top performance turbo, lazy and inefficient, with giant housings that don't fit inside a dsm engine bay.

I went the Borg Warner route for the race car because to buy something comparable in size and performance from FP or Precision literally costs $3500-$4000, and while I realize the Red Demon is a bad example because it's obviously pushing the turbos pretty hard that car is on it's third one since Shootout 2017...and I can't afford $12,000 worth of turbos every year to make a car go down the track just for funzies.

I currently have $750 in this billet Borg S480 that I bought, rebuilt, and put on the car and there's not a Chinese part on it. I'm content for what it is- the spool is actually better than the T3 Super 99 even though the car had gone it's fastest of 8.56 with the Super 99 on it. Time will tell what it's capable of with ET's and trap speeds but I remain optimistic...and if Precision or FP wants to sponsor the car and give us $4000 turbos then cover them when/if they fail, I'm fine with that.
