I finally found a dsm in El Paso worth getting into, 1990 Mits Eclipse GS 4g63t standard. I brought it home and started diagnosing the car and replaced fuel pump, cause power was there but pump doesn't turn on, that's done I'm getting fuel but now the car still doesn't fire up. I have spark but no pulse from the injectors with key off both pins are grounds. Key on, I have 12v on one pin and lose the ground on the other, and while cranking no pulse on that pin. I never lose power on the other pin. I just got the car, but under the hood I'm noticing the connectors for both coolant sensors have the wires worn off and no longer connected. And the CAS is loose, and can be moved freely. Reading around the internet I'm getting the CAS just controls spark? No? And the ecu has 90 awd written in sharpee. So it's been changed (I'm guessing), does it matter if it's an AWD computer? And the timing belt snapped on the previous owner and had the head over hauled and all, and it was running but only for so long and it just quit and the previous owner was stuck probably where I'm at and started throwing parts at it. I just need some guidance DSM experts, help me out where to start:(

Thank you, I read that whole thing and it's giving me a path to go on!

You mentioned that the coolant wires were all goofy too. Those sensors "talk" to the ECU so they need to be hooked up and in good shape so the computer see's the values it is looking for. :thumb:
The CAS is used to set Base Timing to 5* when the timing tab is grounded. It is then tightened down at that spot to hold the 5* of timing until the tab is ungrounded and then the ECU takes over and bounces it around a bit. You can see from the other thread that the CAS does control injector function so focus on getting it set correctly.

I'm rewire my coolant sensors, and get the car to top dead center and install the CAS correctly, and see what happens, I also found how to test the injector ballast resistor to see if it working using a multi meter. I'll do all this and see what happens..:idontknow:

You are on the right track. Keep it up and you will get rewarded when she fires up!
I have 4 1990's. 2 TSI's, 1 GSX and 1 Laser so if it is 1990 specific (they are the odd duck of DSM's), I should have an answer or have probably run across it.

My ballast resistor checked out good, 6.2ohms across all pins. So I went I the car and pulled the ecu out and took it apart and found what I believe is one of those caps burned where it meets the board. I'ma upload a pic.

I would try a donor ECU and see if there is any difference. ECMTuning can repair the bad ECU or test it for a fee. They are good to deal with.

I noticed my photo last night was pretty bad, so heres another. I'll check them out but I have a buddy the runs an auto electric shop here in town and I'ma see what he can do for it. If not I'll probably buy one here from the community.

Yes you have a leaky cap and it is time to replace them with new components before they eat away at the circuit. Much better photo!

Got the ecu capacitors replaced and still a no start, like a dumb ass I left my noid lights at work and the shop closed. But I dug deeper and noticed that when I place the engine on TDC, the exhuast cam dowel is at 12o clock and the intake is like at 2o clock. So I gotta go another day with this on my brain and have no idea if the capacitors gave me a pulse and now I have to a timing issue..tomorrow I'll check if I got a pulse and report before resetting timing and praying to the car gods that my valves aren't bent. Is it the weekend yet??:banghead:

As he was sodering the caps, he was double checking all the connections with a muiltimeter and I witnessed. (He's a really good friend and did it for free for me)

I would send the ECU in for testing its free.
Also set the mechanical timing correctly at the cam gears and crank pulley
if the CAS is still loose tighten it at the mid way point.
GOODLUCK

I will line it all up this weekend when I have more light in the day, and look into getting the ecu tested, thank you guys for the replies and I'll keep you posted.

I got my injector pulse! after the ecu caps were replaced I got my noid lights and they blink finallyLOL got spark and fuel, I definitely have air so I'ma set my timing correctly and hope the valves aren't bent and it fires up! I'll update tomorrow, thank you all:)

Glad to see that you can work on these cars yourself or with the help of a friend. You will gain so much knowledge by doing it and besides, who trusts a shop with OUR cars anyway?
Good job! :thumb:

Took the car for a ride today for the first time, and I'm not building boost..the turbine is siezed..damn it! Haha but it runs and now I need to shop for a turbo:/
