List is now closed!!!!!

please please read this fully for the details as this work and item is being done by 2-3 people overall so make sure your happy with the process and details please and time frame, I will try list everythign as detailed as possible without confusing the situation LOL, I will end this in MID FEB 2019!!!!! EXTENDED TILL MID MARCH AS ASKED FOR TAXES.

Minimum needed for this to proceed is 30 and thats what Quaife told me!

Hello Everyone and welcome to this awesome part and news I can bring you on these.

for those interested already this is the dedicated Active thread and for those joining now then welcome and hope you can get involved on this awesome item im getting made by Quaife motorsport. Yes the same quaife who made diffs and other goodies for other car models and brands.

Quick breakdown of whats happening.
*The rack and pinions are going to be sorted by myself then shipped to Brandon at EMW. RACKS TO BE PAID FIRST,
*Brandon (EMW) will then be doing modifying and rebuilding ALL of the racks. THIS WILL BE THE 2ND PAYMANT ONCE HE SEND YOU HIS INVOICE.
*I have someone who is willing to make a full bolt on (full) Electronic Power steering kit, so this means no fluid! THIS WILL BE THE 3RD PAYMENT AND CAN BE PAID AT THE SAME TIME OF REBUILD OR AFTER.

MAIN Description breakdown and details.

My part.

These racks are to be made by Quaife here in the UK, its a manual conversion (details below for those wanting power assisted)
They will come with a new ratio of 2.1 (OEM is 2.55) so this is the best option we can get in our housing (has to be modified slightly in the pinion housing) this will make steering feel alot nicer and if you driven an evo before and loved it then this will be the right direction to making steering feel as good as them, (same ratios) Brandon will be doing this work. The racks will come with everything including steering rack, pinion, pinion bearing, pinion seal, pinion bearing cap and housing modification drawing so Brandon will have all the items to perform this and rebuild with the new parts.

once I place the order it can take upto 8 weeks for them to do the designing and upto 16 weeks to manufacture them all then about 2-3 weeks for them to get to me and then to Brandon@EMW.
they are estimates and could be done alot sooner, but this is what they listed to me.

The price for this rack and pinion kit plus getting it over etc etc per person is $335. This is paid directly to myself for ONLY the kit! Payment is due upfront to be added to the list

Brandon @ EMW's part.

He would like all racks to be modified and rebuilt sent to him (from you guys) before hand so he can get prepped and do everyones in 1 bulk order rather then small batches here and there,
I have worked on a price which is a lower fee from his normal service fee if this is done, if its sent outside of the bulk order then I cannot guarantee the fee will stay the same,

once the racks arrive from you and from me he will get working on them all and do all the modifying and rebuilding ready to bolt up just like the OEM unit does, Please do not send any racks to him until the order has been placed with Quaife!!!!

Brandon will require you to email him with some details once paid and on the list to send you an invoice and so he has a works order for your rack and any other things you may want.

details he wants emailed to him are,

Please start the subject with "steering rack group buy"
  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Email Address
send these details to [email protected] from here he will invoice you and let you know how to pay, and also a time frame for parts to be completed.

his fee for the process is $300 for the complete work to be done.
if you require a core thats an extra $100 and from your email to him he will also give you a shipping quote back to you. This will be paid directly to Brandon!

EPS kit. 3rd party (Mr Cole) (if you want to keep power assisted)

This is a person I found who made a kit for his car and after asking him a load of questions LOL he has agreed to make kits for anyone else aswel who wants to keep power assisted. I have been in contact with this guy for some time now and his item has been working well since i first saw it installed,

if your interested this is a full bolt on kit and basic wiring will be needed to make this function/power up,

it is not a programmable unit, It will sit between your steering wheel and rack. it is also a full electronic unit so no fluid will be used anywhere in the system, video here of how it works

if this is something you would like to get then once paid for the rack kit let me know and I will forward you his contact details. He is not a shop and is going to help on the side of his day job (nice of him to do this for us) your column will need to be adjusted and for this he will either have a service to do a core unit swap or you can send yours in for his service to be done, its so you do less work making it fit and will be as simple as bolting it on

he will offer a discount if he get a few orders at once.
fee per single order is $280 plus shipping,
fee for a batch at a time will be $240 plus shipping,
This will be paid directly to Mr Cole! via his instructions.

I have attached some pics and if you have any questions please do ask or feel free to message me directly

Again thank you for your continued support and Im glad I can keep helping the community out with new and exciting products in anyway possible!

Bobby

Just sent in my payment to get on the list. Lets make this happen guys this opportunity won't come again!
Initial survey showed 45 was highly interested so shall see what happens. I can go for 2 myself so thats adding to the numbers,
But some might not get in till after Christmas and thats why i said it will close mid feb, to give time for everyone after the Holidays.

Will you close it before if you reach the go ahead number? Maybe set up the master list to push people to buy sooner than later with there being a cap limit.

Its not so much the numbers its the timing LOL, some people cant do it this side of Christmas and i opted to give a decent time after the Holidays for people to get on board.

The timeline is until Febuary is perfectly fine in my book. Interest is one thing but getting 30 people to actually pay the dough will be difficult to get on any timeline I think. But I'm Hopeful!

Ive had aload of interest so i hope it will go through just fine, but we shall see what santa brings LOL

Glad to see this happening. Great work Bobby! Can I ask what modification have to be done on the rack? I have access to a full machine shop at work, and I have rebuilt these racks before. Is there a way to purchase the kit and not have Brandon assemble it?

Can you provide any additional details on the EPS kit? Is it utilizing a vehicle speed dependent controller? Or is the assistance constant in all conditions? Sorry if this has already been answered, I haven't been on the forums much lately.

Thanks,

Will Powell

I ll likely try 1. Am I going to die on the road course with no power assist :D ??? Probs keep my street car OE power due to comfort/cost
I d probably prefer the later initial payment Date
From a few of the people i have spoke with a manual rack is just fine when moving a small amount. Im going manual so can join me or get the EPS kit to assist your arms LOL

Thanks Will, im trying my best to open up new avenues for us and to give our cars a fresh batch of aftermarket parts and try to be as good as others who have alot more then we do,

The rack just needs a small bit or boring in the pinion housing, nothing huge or hard to do, and im sure if you wish to do it yourself i can do that but we would need to look at shipping costs direct to you though, it might also work out cheaper i think..... If brandon still got them all and oerhaps shipped you the R&P set with the modification drawing they are going to give me, let me know what way you would like to proceed of this.

As for the EPS its a constant assist. There are no inputs or outputs to adjust it and unles we get a custom kit made its tue best and cheapest i can find and someone willing to do it for us is good and well not many people about doing this stuff LOL,
If you want full adjustment then i can send you details of a company but be warned its about 1k just for the main kit plus add ons, so.... Yeah i think for 280 is a better option for all right now haha, if folks wanna get fancy after thats upto you all and how you all want to modify things

Bobby,
Thanks for the reply. I like the idea of speed based assistance, so I might play around with it in the future. I have worked with motor controls in various robotics projects and I believe I could design a simple system which would take VSS data and scale the assistance accordingly. My aim is to end up with very light assistance at road speeds and ramping up the assistance at parking lot speeds. I am fairly confident that I will join in this group buy. I have been wanting a better solution for years. Remember the rack drawing I had in my profile a while back? We had a short discussion about it.

Also, thanks for driving this project forward. I considered the task, but ended up abandoning the idea when I realized how many obstacles were in the way. Kudos to you for jumping through the hoops required to bring something like this together. I can't wait to see how it all turns out!

No worries man, I will always replay as soon as i can properly.
as for the drawing and convo I kinda remember it but its been such a long time my memory is not that great with all the details LOL, sorry

I wish the EPS was fully adjustable also and have inputs but we cant have it all im afraid and while I could get a kit to be full everything and a custom housing for the rack etc its just not cost effective to put through into production, I have looked at many many options and asked many companys but in the end this way is the most cost effective way for all to get something out of it thats as near as damn it full bolt on, I myself will oneday go a whole complete different route maybe next year or the year after but its a full custom job from start to finish and is not going to be cheap either to do but nothing custom is really.

I too am glad I can get this rolling finally, im always looking to bring super awesome stuff to our forum and community in anyway i can wether its my items or I have to get other companys involved I will always try bring as much new items as I can for us all, I just hope this all goes through ok as I dont want to ditch this and it never ever happens (EVER) LOL
