I’m planning on upgrading my stock turbo to something better. I’ve been reading up on it. Im looking at evo 3 16G or a 20 G . But im open to all options . Looking to get the car at 400whp but still daily driveable . What does everyone recommend?

I am running this one right now internally WG'd and like it immensely for a street car, as C2 said, wait for December if you can as they (FP) usually has a Christmas sale for this Turbo..
How much boost do you run? Im currently running 16 psi on the stock T25 , which I know is a little over the safe limit.

22 PSI, Speed Density, FP mainfold, 1150 high z injectors, 255 Walbro, ECMlink and yada yada yada(all supporting mods), Jewer street tune, will turn up to 26 PSI in spring and leave it more than likely..

Happy fp red owner here, the 68hta is a great suggestion as an upgrade for 400 whp potential, but the red would have to work less for it with only a few hundred rpm more lag, and more potential. Both turbos will be laggy compared to your old t25, so why not spend money on the turbo that will get you the most for your money in the same size bolt on housing? I’ve seen as much as 57 lb/per min at 35 psi, it’s a bad ass bolt on upgrade

Obviously you need ecmlink, fuel injectors, fuel pump, and clutch, if you don’t have all these yet I would ditch the 400 whp goal and get a 16g:thumb:

I got a ETS stage 3 clutch , planning on getting walboro 255 fuel pump and not sure which injectors to go for yet. But before buying the fuel upgrades definitely getting link first

Will be upgrading turbos soon also from the stock t25, what size injectors and fuel pump would be safe at 20 psi and safe on a healthy stock block?

Forced Performance 68HTA gets my vote:

FP 68HTA for DSM

Might want to wait to see if they go on sale...

Just so everyone's aware, it doesn't seem as though the holiday sale prices will be valid through the website this year and going forward.

Depends on your fuel type, but 400whp on an Evo III 16G isn't something that most builds / tunes are capable of so I'd suggest the 20G straight-away...TD05H if you're on E85 / race fuel, or TD06SL2 if you're on pump gas. The turbine restriction of the smaller 05H wheel will definitely pose a problem trying to make power on pump gas.

Depends on how large your chosen turbo may be. Lack of fuel and proper tuning software will limit any large turbo from making power up to the potential of the compressor.

Was thinking of going with the hta68 mentioned above, gonna go with black box tuning for now and try to find someone local that knows what they're doing.

Bastard 20g :D
20G also gets my vote- it's tough to compete with FP compressors, but I prefer the ability to actually buy parts (wheels) for a specific turbo versus sending it back to the manufacturer if something goes wrong.

holset and done. knowing everything I know now I wish I would of just pulled the trigger and made the swap years ago. I've had a 14b, lots of 16gs, both versions of the 68hta and nothing.. even compares to a holset. once you get over the initial hurdle of the install, which isn't really even difficult it's an incredible sensation.. plus the sound of a holset spooling is intoxicating.

Holset being off the table for options my next vote would be... a v1 68hta If you can find one. or an old school fp red in a 7cm housing. any form bastard 20g behind that.

Edit: FP 3052 would be hard to beat as well. expensive to repair though.

Im hearing mixed revies from the 68hta, manh complaining about a lot of turbo lag. Will the Fp Green be a better option?
If the 68HTA is too laggy, why would going bigger to a 73HTA be a better option?

Since the 68HTA now comes with a 61/54mm turbine and 8cm2 housing, many have complained that it's not the turbo it once was when it was based on an actual MHI 16G...but FP doesn't seem to be too interested in addressing whatever the problem is, and technically the current version works better on pump gas and is capable of more compressor flow so there's a valid argument in their favor regarding one is technically "better" but most street car guys would rather have the spool to sacrifice a little top end flow. I've been building a lot of billet 18G's on TD05H turbines lately for guys looking for that "V1 68HTA" spool, recovery, and powerband.

In all honesty, being that the 68HTA and Green now use the same turbine wheel and 8cm2 housing there's not a whole lot of difference in potential between the two. One of those instances where the smaller 68HTA wheel is so efficient that it basically shadows the 73HTA in nearly every way.
