So my friend gave me his old 96 Eagle Talon Tsi. I just needed to fix it up. Well I'm on my last thing to make it drive able. I need to replace the rear CV axles but I can't get the axle nut off. Its really rusted. I only have like a 17in breaker bar and I've tried PB Blaster but it won't budge. Any suggestions? The CV axles are trash anyway so if theres another way I can get it off from like the other side than just let me know.

The picture is before the pb plaster and yes I know its rusty as hell LOL

I had this problem with one of my front axles. Heat and lubrication didn't help so i drove it for a couple weeks spraying it everyday and the next week I tried my hand at it again and it came loose idk if this is an option for you or not but may be worth a try if you can.

Yeah the right rear cv axle is broken so no driving anywhere LOL.

Kroil, heat and a really good impact gun (Ingersol Rand) on a good air compressor. I was down at Ocean City recently (love that place) and I'm betting it was the salt water in the air that got to that thing!

If you're already replacing the axle, pull the brakes, remove the bolts that bolt the wheel hub in and pull the whole hub/axle out as an assembly. I've taken apart rears that were worse than that without completely destroying them, but it's a lot of work and chances are the wheel hub is probably just as bad. It'll be cheaper and easier in the long run just to replace the hub and axle at the same time.

Are 2g rear axles still available? I thought they was discontinued just what's out there currently is all that's available

Not new, strictly modified was selling their own versions but they don't come with inner cups and they're not OEM.

I'll try it later today and I'll let you know how it goes.

I plan on replacing the hub as well but I am just like piecing the car together atm. I'm on a budget for the next like month or 2. I'm trying to get everything together and nice before I start doing mods. After the axle I'm doing hubs all around and new brakes/rotors. I'm having a little difficulty finding hubs for the rear though. Like all the ones I see say fwd and for the rear I'm just finding bearing assemblies.

400.46005e should be the rear with hub

I got them on rock auto. Its the MI-8196 cv axles. I want to get an evo dif and that needs different axles so for the time being these are fine for me.

I also had the same issue like most ppl already mention portable map gas with self igniting torch (cheap) $40 @ home depo & lots of lube.
In the process of removing them i destroyed mine and had them rebuilt by ARC manufactures they did an amazing job 24hr later they were new again .

GOOD LUCK

I had the same issue on the rear end as you, and If you want to do it right, Unfortunately your going to have to borrow a Sawzall from a buddy and cut the axle in half, Then take a large hammer or something similar and beat the living shit out of the axle to free the inner wheel bearing from the wheel hub and hub assembly.

Best Case: If you get the wheel bearing and Axle separated from the hub assembly. You can tidy up the Wheel hub and hub assembly and re use it.

Worst case: if you can't remove the entire wheel hub from the hub assembly... source a used or refurbished wheel hub and assembly, wheel bearing, and axel.

Strictly performance sells a "OE-Ish" axle, but you have to transfer parts from OEM axle the (inner cup) to it.. so make sure you don't throw the old axle away. Wheel bearings are accessible, BUT the "wheel Hub" is not. They are discontinued so good luck finding one, so Try your best to save the one you have.. and you can get the Axle from Strictly. I hope this helps you and save you troubleshooting time.

Good luck

I know its been awhile(got a new job and transitioning and stuff.) Gonna start working on it again soon its just been sitting in the driveway. I'm about to cut the axle. Broke 2 breaker bars LOL. Nah. Cutting it off. I was about to buy an impact wrench and try to get the nut off that way but its cheaper for me to just cut the old axle.
