.....I'm a bit late on this journal deal. I've had the car 16 going on 17 years. And while it has gone through numerous changes over that time, I'm really only going to focus starting from the '16 season.

The first race out was in the beginning of August at NJMP. Amazing facility. If you haven't gone to an event there, I highly recommend it. We did really well there, getting faster every session. The final session I went out on I lapped a 1:38.672 which was good enough for 2nd place.

I wasn't able to go back out till Lime Rock at the beginning of October. I'm from NYC and I consider Lime Rock my home track. Did really well. Lapped a 1:02.785 which was good for fourth. During that event, the exhaust manifold developed a crack leading to the wastegate, which is where we are now.

I wound up getting I touch with Kyle at Archer fabrication and we discussed my goals and direction with the car. He has since finished manifold and I'm patiently waiting for it's arrival.

So while I was doing this manifold change, some things needed to be done. I had to move the inlet of the rad over a bit so as to not cook the upper hose. I had a buddy of mine take care of the welding. And that's where we're are at the moment. Hopefully I can get some work done on it this weekend.

Very nice, better late then never on a build thread, what else you got planned for the car?

Well, hopefully some more suspension mods. Brake mods. Eventually, get a shell, swap all the stuff over to the shell, and return this car to a streetable car that I can just enjoy. My wife loves this car a whole bunch as well, so it'd be nice to get tons point where we can enjoy it. Take it to the beach and what not. But for now, just keep taking it out. Learning. Get faster. See where it goes. I picked up a tire sponsor and I'm working on a couple other things along those lines. Hopefully it all works out.

So, the weather in NYC this weekend was killer, so I was able to get a few things done. My priority was getting the manifold into the car and progress as far as I could with the time I had.
I bought a sick new manifold from Archer Fabrications. Awesome work. Highly recommend him. I put the manifold in, but couldn't get the rad in. Put the rad in, but couldn't put the manifold in. So I had to put the manifold in with a nut on to hold it loosely in place, then lift the manifold up and slide the rad in. Took a little doing, but got it to fit and was able to tighten everything down. Next up, is getting the turbo in and then start working on the oil pan.

Great build.

Any tips to give us who are planning on going to the track for the first time?

Thank you! For the first time, just take your time and learn. Don't worry about setups, power, or anything like that. Just focus on being safe and learning. Be able to take criticism from other people with more experience. Be a sponge. Take in as much information as possible. Most sanctioning bodies will have a class you'll have to take to familiarize yourself with the track, on track procedures, flags, flag stations...Just the basic stuff. But most importantly, just go out and have fun. You're not gonna break lap records your first time out. So learn. Have fun. As you go more, you can start worrying about mods, tires and suspension setups, but the first time out, just learn as much as you can.

What tires are you on and did you have any oil system modifications before? Know how much lateral G you were pulling in the corners?

I'm on Direzzas now, but was on the RE71R prior to that. The Bridgestones were a bit quicker in the dry, but I hear the Direzza is a bit faster in the wet. Only oil mods were a 21 row oil cooler and a Magnus rebuildable oil filter. No idea on the G's. Hopefully a buddy can bring some data acquisition stuff the next time we go out.

Also, did you feel like wrapping your uicp lowered your iats at all? Thanks.

Didn't take pre and post temp notes. I should've, but it was kinda spur of the moment. Had some leftover wrap from my other build and was like....Let's see what happens. I'm gonna redo the upper pipe at some point soon. So I'll take notes before and after.

I read a lot of reports (not from DSM's, though) that the RE71R's can't handle the extended heat of a road course and wear out quickly. What was your experience? I'm on 7 year old v1 RS3's and need to upgrade soon. The RE71R's still seem the favorite for autox but not for road course.

The pics on track above were at NJMP in August. Ambient temps were in the mid 90's. Track temp was 109°. The tires never missed a step. I ran two events with he Bridgestones. The other was Lime Rock also in August of '15. Track temps were lower. But I have absolutely no complaints with them. Not only did I track with them but also put probably 3k miles on the street with them. Great tire. Wish I could've stayed on them. But I picked up a tire sponsor that requires me to run the Dunlop's. The Dunlop's are good as well. Just not as good as the bridgestones.

Got some work done last weekend. After getting pummeled with taxes, hopefully I can still run Pocono at the end of April. But, aside from that, got the turbo in. Had to clock it a bit to get the oil feed line to cooperate, but it's all good. It's inside the 15° window Garrett recommends for this turbo. Can't wait to fire it up!!

Wow that things jam packed with fun! Pun intended, looks awesome and that costing color on the manifold is a great touch

Lol. Yeah. I've been saying that if we ever need to pull the rad or the turbo at the track, we might as well pack up, cause it won't happen. And the color of the manifold is the bronze creakote. Absolutely in love with this manifold from Archer Fabrications. Can't wait to try it out.

time to cut the upper rad cross support off and tilt the rad forward! gives you lots more room and less heat getting to it aswell! or drop it and tuck it under the cross support, this could also mean you can run another fan aswell

I actually have two fans already. The one on the driver's side is a pusher (obviously LOL). But I was considering leaning the rad forward a bit to aid in removal. We'll see what happens.
