I picked up one of the Precision turbo SCM 50 trim turbos about 2 months ago (the one rated for 450hp). Jay and matt (if you are in the carolinadsm club you have probably met these two guys) were kind enough to install my turbo on christmas day. the 50 trim replaced my frank Jr. 17c turbo. The 17c was a pretty good turbo, but I decided I wanted to go to something bigger.

Well, later on christmas day i picked the car up. Boost was set at 12psi, and it was incredibly strong there, roughly like 17-19psi on the 17c. Several days after that i messed around with the wastegate actuator arm and got the base boost level up to 15psi. 15psi on this thing is fast. About as fast as the supercharged roush stage 3 mustang. I happened to run into one on the highway about a week ago, and from 60-140mph, he had less than 2 cars on me. Later I talked to the guy and his mustang put down 328.8whp, and ran the 1/8th mile in 8.07, so I am guessing that my car is making somewhere close to 300whp. Thats just a rough guess though.

The pte 50 trim w/.63 ar is an excellent turbo. I have this in conjunction with the dejon tool 3 inch intake. I can hit full boost in 2nd gear at less than 4000rpm, and in gears 3-5, it hits full boost by about 3600-3700rpm. Very impressive for a turbo that size i think. Currently its pretty untuned. I took the SAFC settings for a big 16g equipped car and 550's and FMIC from RRE, and just added several % more fuel in the 4-7500rpm range. EGT's peak at about 850C on runs from 0-120mph. I was planning on on having the car dyno tuned at 17-18psi, but my car started to burn more oil than usual (valve stem seals are starting to go, 120k miles on them). So instead I will have the head rebuilt on my car, then probably in the summer get it dynotuned after the head rebuild. Or, if you guys think that dynotuning will still be effective on a car that has bad valve stem seals/guides i may go ahead and have it done.

I didn't see any good reviews of these turbos, so I figured I would write one. Tell me what you guys think!

here is my 17c on the left, and the pte 50 on the right

traction:
1st gear, no
2nd gear, if you punch it at 2000rpm and it hits full boost prior to 4000rpm, no
3-5 gears, yes, but i'm not sure how it will be when i bump it up to 18psi (or whatever psi i finally end up feeling is safe) and get it tuned

this turbo has the power to spin 3rd gear if the motor will take it

5th gear acceleration, when i took this pick i started at 80mph, by the time the camera took the pick it was at full boost and 90mph (maybe 1 second elapsed or so), that turbo is so much fun :D

another thing about the pte 50, partial throttle acceleration is pretty insane

a buddy of mine has a sr20 swapped 240 that runs 13.7 @104 in the 1/4 and i walked away from him at 40% throttle and 10psi of boost

also, if you get this turbo, make sure you have the right size gasket to go between the turbo and the header, i have the factory one, and its slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the turbo, so its a restriction, i need to order the full 7cm gasket from RRE and swap out the factory sized gasket,

the turbo is a very snug fit, and on mine, the very edge of the fan blades had to be filed down a bit to clear the bell housing, but other than that its a true drop in, also get the highflow oil line kit for the turbo, or it will cook itself and pte will only cover warranty if you have the oil line kit from buschur

is this internal or externally gated and could u get more accurate spool ups and full boost readings in first and second. Im pretty much set in getting this turbo and you are one of the very few gst's with this turbo

mine is internally gated (nice big internal gate), no boost creep, have stock O2 housing, no problems here

spooling the turbo: not much happens below 3000rpm, however, the turbo 'starts' to build boost by maybe 2700-2800, you can only make like 2-3psi before 3000rpm, however, by 3700rpm the turbo is making plenty of boost

1st gear, cant hit full boost due to wheelspin ~3000rpm +
2nd gear, full boost by maybe 3900rpm, wheelspin to about 70mph on 15psi
3rd gear, no wheelspin at 15psi, full boost by 3700rpm or so, very fast spool when starting above 4000rpm (like when you are doing some fast country driving)
4th gear, highway speeds 70mph+, great boost response, turbo is very very strong in the midrange with peak torque seemingly around 4500-4800rpm
5th gear, great boost response above 75mph

i would say the turbo probably takes about a second to spool fully, but it moves a lot of air so you are accelerating pretty good by 6psi, this turbo spools about as quick as my clipped 17c did, although the starting rpm for spool is a tad higher,

my dad owns a 1989 Ruf turbo (930 turbo porsche) and the sensation this turbo gives is much like riding in that car, the pte 50 does not have an instantaneous surge of power to it (no torque spikes like t 25 or 16g), but it builds and builds and builds power till you let off the gas, you get on the gas with this turbo and you better hold on, 2 days ago i dusted a c4 vette with the zz3 HO motor (350hp gm crate motor) with ease, with this turbo you will blow by a wrx at half throttle and 10psi, with this turbo you will scare the crap out of the supercharged cobra owners at 15psi, if you run near 20psi on this turbo, you will probably be near 400hp, this thing is awesome

I had the funnest car ride of my life in a friend's 60 trim GST. You guys and your big turbos... Some day I will be there with ya, but until then I am getting all the supporting mods hammered down so I will be ready for that day.

I want one but this thing would be overkill for what I have for mods,Intake and BOV.What would I need for the PTE 50 trim?:confused:This thing sounds mean

15psi is fun but what till you start running 20-21psi it really kicks ass. My best kill so far with the Pte is a new Carrera 4. :thumb:

660cc injectors (although i have 550's that are working great at the moment), a 250lph fuel pump, an air fuel controller, an intercooler with better flow, (supra sidemount, or front mount), and an intake big enough to fit the 3 inch inlet of the turbo

basically most of the supporting mods and a afc or dsmlink to tune it with. check out his profile and look what he has to give u a idea

Thats'a spicy tuuuuurbo!!!

:thumb:

I bet I'll get the same feeling when I upgrade from my T25. I think my lungs can flow more air. :D

:dsm: :laser: :talon:

OMG...thats the biggest freakin turbo ive ever seen...thats freakin nuts....i thought that they didnt look much bigger then the 20 g looks but damn that thing looks like it came outa a freakin dart bus...nice dude..u should try converting to awd next...

thanks for all the info bud glad your enjoying it !!

That turbo is amazing ! !!

i plan on running 18psi if my 550's will let me, but how many psi do you think the stock 2g block is good for with this turbo
