Beautiful Throttle Body!!

I've been trying to get some ordering info on that, cuz I want one too. did you notice a good gain??

Im waiting for it to arrive, I just paid him so he had to go get the materials and send it out. I will be posting my results (gonna have to do a stop watch quarter mile cause no drag strips close enough and Im too broke for a Dyno). Ive heard nothing but good things about this (I even checked for them on neon boards and they do it do with no complaints.)

I'm very interested in that T.B. let me know what your results were. I have a E-mail in to get ordering info, but no responce yet. I was wondering if you will have to upgrade injectors as well, and possably the fuel pump.

well from what i read it is only for sohc and dohc neons and just so you guys know their TB's are not the same as ours. Their intake manifold is up front so it mounts differently than ours. As far as needing larger injectors, that would be a no. People run 5+psi in our cars with stock injectors so im sure you wouldnt need to upgrade those just for a larger TB. I didnt upgrade any of my fuel components and I have had my 60mm Jeep TB on my car for about a month now

how hard is it to install the jeep tb?

once its modified its not too terribly difficult, the only thing you need to do is take off the intake, then you need to inplug all the sensors off the upper intake manifold and then just take it off. It is held on by 5 bolts that you will have to get from under the car. Then all you do is install the new stuff, which is the revers of the dissasembly

why do you have to take off the intake manifold?? i don't understand why if you are just changing out the tb. seems if you are just changing it out then you'd take off the old switch some of the stuff over and put the new one on. just don't understand the intake removal. please explain.

1TuffRS, or any other of the experts, after seeing other neon TB's, they look exactly the same to my eye as my gs TB, just upside-down, is it the same? Also wouldn't it be easier to make a TB the is "close" to ours fit, then the jeep TB the looks nothing alike, you know 4 holes not 2 ? Just wondering.

Did anyone else notice that those are for NEONS, not htey will not work on our cars, N/T eclipses and neons only share the same dohc BLOCK everything else is different...on neons the intake manifold is where our header is!!!I might have missed something but you need to check that site again.

aboutime....sure as hell looks like it will work to me!!!!!! Damn something else I have to spend money on now! I know that I can get a JEEP TB, cheaper, but while I am getting an new engine built I am making it show worthy also.

the only real reason we even have to modify the upper manifold is because of the hole on the manifold. That hole is used by the stock tb to let the car idle, but with the jeep TB that hole is no longer needed and will make your car have an abnormally high idle. It is also a plus to have the manifold port matched to the TB so their isnt a bottleneck.

The reason you have to get under the car is to reach the bolts that go into the manifold, if you can reach it from the top of the car that is great, but it is just easier to get to it from under the car. As far as the jeep TBs being show worthy we do polish them and in order to get it show worthy all you would need to do is take a rubbing compound to it to clean it up.

Tony (1tuffRS) makes a whole upper manifold replacement. The neon throttle bodies don't work on our cars. The reason tony has a good deal is because for $175 you get the jeep throttle body ready to install, with a port matched upper intake manifold. This way your not trying to cram the extra airflow from the larger throttle body into the same size intake manifold. So with tony you get more performance for less money. Not only that but it will work with your car.

Toney and I are no longer making this set-up. I've made three, all of which went on my car first, one of which went on toney's car, then was shipped out to the "final" owner. I'm in the process of trying to get ahold of the second person to buy his back from him. The most recent one has apparently broken the spring, letting the throttle plate open and close as it pleased and the guy says he rear ended someone. I'm not going to provide any more if they aren't going to hold up. I appologize to anyone that may have been waiting for one, from Toney and I, but I'm sure you can understand why you're not going to get one now.

breaks my heart to see that happen. I will be installing my Jeepie in a few hours and hanging on to my stock stuff for a week, just to be safe.
If everything goes as I expect I will beg and plead for you guys to make more Jeepies for the 2GNT owners out there but only sell if the buyer accepts that the makers are in no way held responsible for whatever happens.

The concept and design are great and from what Ive read on the neon boards they love them. I have complete faith in the set up and will "review" the Jeepie later today, after showing it off to the DeDSM crew, nothing like an hour drive after an install for a test of faith!

check my gallery to see the bad boy up close!

heck if he stops selling them, I'll sell mine to any of you guys for $350 :p

We will see. Toney and I are going to eventually run them on our cars regardless of whether I sell them any more or not. The only reason we don't have them on there now is... we took them off to sell to you and the other guy. I asked Toney last night and he still wants one. I want one too because I have enough faith in it to run it on my car. However, I have to have even more faith to let someone else run it. Right now I'm a little worried.
Regardless of whether I'm legally responisible or not.... I still want to be able to stand behind my work.

For those that are wondering what all I did to get it to work... you can visit here:
http://www.carolinadsm.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?;act=SF;f=10
and just find any of the many threads about the Jeep throttle body. The only thing I ask is that if you decide to post on our board... don't start a whole new thread about the Jeep TB. There's at least four threads already and you can just use one that's already on-going.

A brief description as to what needed to be done...
Disassemble both stock FJ (eclipse) and XJ (jeep) TB's (throttle bodies). Take the parts I needed from both and assemble them all together on to the XJ TB housing. What I did differently from the neon boys was instead of cutting one of the mounting holes bigger... I cut both sides equally. This centered the TB to the upper intake manifold.
Next I port matched the XJ TB to the FJ upper manifold. This is because... the stock manifold opening is 52mm as well as the stock throttle plate. The XJ TB where it mounts to manifold is 55mm. Leaving it the way it was... the manifold would jut in to the air stream by 1.5mm all around. While it's not much... the XJ TB already tapers after the 60mm plate down to 55mm at the base. Another 3mm at the manifold puts us right back to stock size. So I ported and then polished that little lip.
The next thing I did was block the AIS hole differently that the Neon boys did. The AIS hole is a second smaller hole that allows air to bypass the throttle plate for the purpose of letting the computer allow more air in when the throttle plate is shut. This is important for when you turn the steering wheel or turn on the a/c... the computer can increase air flow to allow the engine to idle properly and not bog out.
The Neon boys wanted to use JB weld, or rubber or something. Well, I don't have $1500 laying around to buy a new head when that plug gets sucked out and go in to the head and fubars everything.
Instead, I tapped the hole and inserted a 5/8 diameter bolt. I then cut off the head and grinded it flush with the manifold. The bolt is long enough that even if it moves inward, it can come out the opposite side because of the manifold's design on the inside.
Other little things involved grinding the mounting bolts collar to allow it to screw all the way down and not contact the TB, polishing the TB with a bench grinder wire wheel to make it shine and stick out and running the upper manifold through the parts washer to try and clean it out real well. (sorry bout your's malenko I thought I had cleaned it).
So there it is... The few that have my version... I hope it doesn't give you any problems. For those looking to get one from me and toney... Don't hold your breath but do keep in touch and we'll see how things go.

p.s. there are differences between the eclipse and the neon TB's. The position of the black piece that holds the throttle cable is different. Also, the eclipse uses one throttle cable at the TB and the cruise control system is integrated at the passenger side of the intake. The neon uses two channels at the TB. One for throttle and the second for cruise (if equipt, though all the Neon TB's have two channels) You can take the two apart and make them fit on either car... but some assembly is required. The ones in those pictures are clearly for a neon as they have two slots for cables.
Also... we went with a Jeep TB because it had been done before and we had access to parts. We don't have access to machines to design from scratch.
