Chipped EPROM ECU with no Safc?

i have the keydriver stage 3 chip and bigger injectors in my 90 tsi awd and i have no safc, it runs like oem but, the safc will allow you to fine tune your car

If you have a chip that's really all you'll ever need. Any changes you want to make can be put into the chip by reburning it.

Actually, it should run better than "oem". Usually a chip is also burned for a better A/F ratio than the factory way-too-rich settings. The SAFC is great for fine tuning, here's a thread with some more details.

i just got the stage 3 chip and i zeroed out the safc and it runs like a champ. i have not needed any fine tuning the car pulls great.

My car runs a million times better with just the chip alone, tuned for 11.1 a/f/r and 16 degrees peak timing on top map with 40 % expanded 1g maps, 70 % expanded fuel cut point, stuttar box, no lift to shift, enchance closed loop operation for better gas milage, 850 cc injector compensation, evo 8 mass correction, no air flow cap, octane value reset ( were when you get knock that pulls back timing you dont have to drive like 30 to 40 miles to get the timing to finaly reset back to its normal value, all i have to do is turn off the car and turn it back on and resets it back to regular values. ) a/c cut out ( but dnt got a/c anyways.) 800 rpm idle correction ( for when you get cams and stuff can fix your idle )

etc....
Plus I dont have to fiddle and adjust nothing I just turn the key, get in, and go... Simplicity and effectiveness.
If you can find a safc that can do all that then ill give you my chip and my mods....
I could give a rats ass about why people think so highly of safc.

Will the chip hurt my car when I smog it in california?

Simple answer: no.

The chip won't adversely affect a smog test (unless it is very poorly tuned), but the emissions systems on the car will. Problems with your EGR, PCV, EVAP, catalytic convertor and/or O2 sensors are the main reasons you'd fail an emssions test.

Last year I went 11.70's on just a chip. It runs OK, i mean...it pulls good and what not, and I raced around like that for 2 years with no SAFC. But with DSM link, I bet I could have run 11.20's just by messing around with the timing.

Yes. The chips get it very very close to fine tuned. I have a safc and am getting a chipped eprom ecu, my buddy burning me the chip had to zero out his safc so in the end he didn't really ned one. i will be just running a chip and evo 560's in the galant. no afc, no problem.
