Hello all. Ok so here is the story I currently own a 03 Tiburon, V6 mind you. Anyways I used to have a 91 Talon awd which I loved, but sadly she had to go due to reliability issues, whoever had it before didn't know what preventative maintnence was, and we will leave it at that if you know what I mean. Anyways so I have a Tib right now , with a solid strong lil engine.

However I miss my lil 4G63 and I am posing this quetsion to you guys. Should I either buy a 97 or 98 Talon AWD or should I go out and buy an EVO IX when I get the chance? I know if I buy a Talon I will have a complete rebuild on the block and have all the necessary internal goodies installed at that time. OR should I opt for an EVO IX? I like the fact that the IX has alot of aftermarket support that will be around for quite a while.

So, what do you people feel I should do?

This is a DSM site, so most people would probably opt for the Talon. Of course, you would be buying about an 8 year old car, compared to a brand-spankin' new one. Only you can decide what you want. I assume that many of the Evolution VIII's aftermarket parts are interchangable with the IX, so there probably won't be too many issues there.

EDIT: If you do a little search, you will see that this type of thing has been discussed before.

This is totally your decision. Some people will say built talon, some will say EVO. It really depends on what you want. You also have to think about where you want to go with the car. Is this going to be your DD occasional warrior? Im sure you already know what an EVO is going to cost you. There are so many factors that come into play, but in the end it's just down to personal preference. Goodluck with either one, both are great cars!!!

Talon= cheap to buy + make fast

Evo= expensive, youll have car payments, if you dont take care of it it will turn to shit real quick, then you will have to pay to fix what you broke, if you put aftermarket crap on it in which i assume you will, and youll still have car payments

Everyone makes a good point but its all comes down to what you are going to do. Reguardless of any car you mod if you dont do maintenace first its not goin to be reliable, you should always do maintenance first that way your vehicle is up to par but most people do the opposite and which is why they say dsm's break alot. With an older car you need to take care of it before you play. I personally own the oldest model an 89 laser that has now 180k on it ans ive owned it since 150 and never had one problem but i have done alot of maintenance to it, i say talon its not as common and i think they look better

Does mitsubishi still have that killer warranty on evos? 6 years i believe. Thats something to consider. And if you were gonna buy one new... dont. Wait till the Evo X comes out. It wont be for a bit but its gonna be sooo badass.

Ok, first if you build the talon right it will be faster than the EVO and cheaper, do you want an evo or an MR theres about a 300pound or so difference, plust no big wing and power windows and what not. If you have the money to burn get the evo. It will retian its value expescaly when the evo X comes out (stupid mitsubishi). Then you must think about it you can say you own a fraking evo man, or you can say yeah I own a talon. Its up to you. Like i said if your rich EVO, if not Talon.

Yeah see thats why I am tossing the idea of a talon every one and their aunt basically had/has an eclipse or wants an EVO. But alot less people have had talons. And trust me I do plenty of maintnance on my vehicles. Out of all my families vehicles mine usually run the best except for when a brand new car is bought. I'm pretty anal like that. Well, I guess it'll come down to what I can find in my area. So does that sound right, if I can find a Talon AWD buy that otherwise buy an EVO? Thanks for all the help and maybe I might join this forum on a permanant basis.

I believe you are talking about an EVO RS.

def go with the talon, great cars, easy to maintain and make faster than the evo, and its def gonna feel better on the wallet, but it comes down to what you wanna drive, good luck with the purchase, and let us know

Lancer evo's are very expensive to upkeep, so just consider that it's actually a high end sports car and not an affordable sedan. Just things like brakes pads for those things are expensive from the dealer.

I'm sure you could pick up a 2g for a fraction of the price and it'll be much less expensive to repair and maintain.

300pound of difference of what? you don't know what you are talking about. There are 5 Evo trims:

RS
GSR
GSR with SSL package
MR
SE

Among all these 5 trims the difference on weight is less than 100 pound. As far is building the cars, anycar can be faster than the other as long as you have the budget to built them.

If you can afford the evo, get it. It's newer and has wicked performance out the box. And if it was me, I would break the warranty anyway and start modding, F it.

Just remember if you get an EVO IX and start throwing aftermarket goodies at it you'll most likely void your warranty. That means when you beat the snot out of it and it breaks, you're gonna have to fix it out of pocket. On top of your usual car payments. And judging on your previous DSM experience, I'd have your next DSM thoroughly inspected before you buy. Which ever you choose, good luck :thumb:

I say Talon, everyone is buying Evo's. They are all over the place and ask youself if you want a 2 door or a 4 door car.

One thing alot of people overlook is insurance costs.

The evo is probablly one of the if not the most expensive car to insure (costing more than a mercedes sl500) this excludes all supercars btw. Where as the talon a 10 or so yr old car will cost ALOT less if not next to nothing. The reasoning being the kind of people that drive evos are considerably younger (which for whatever reason means more wreckless).

In the eyes of an insurer evos are nightmares, 30+k cars, that are bought almost soley for their preformance.

Now this also has to do with age/driving record.

Btw I am not an insurance agent, but I did go through this road when buying a new car. So I did some reseach/called insurance companies to see if any of them would insure an 06 evo MR to a 20 yr old :D and a few of them actually gave me montly quotes that where higher than the freakin auto payments WTF also remember that when financing a new car you have to pay for premium insurance and not the cheap one (also depending on state/terms of agreement)
