Honestly, what's with all these high priced, high mileage GSXs? I've been searching for a GSX for quite some time and honestly some of the prices people are asking for their GSXs is down right ridiculous. I think the blue book value for a 99 GSX with like 60k miles is like maybe a little bit more than 10,000 dollars. I see some people in the classifieds section listing modded cars for like 13, 14 even 15 thousand and this is with like 80k-100k miles!! Aren't mods supposed to depreciate the value of a car? Do people really think that a car that's almost a decade old and that's been modified (and most likely beat on) is worth that amount of money? I'm just curious to see what other people think about this without the obvious "well don't buy it then" reply.

It's all about the RARENESS. That's the story for 1g and 2g. Everyday a couple of them are gone forever. Just keeps adding up.

Supply and demand. People realize the potential of these cars, or just think they are cool looking (fast and the furious) and sellers can see this need and take advantage of it. Civics are a good example of this. It sucks but theres not much you can do but suck it up or hope you find a great deal on one. 1g prices are also pretty outstanding. Because of the lack of tuner cars in the late 90s to the early 2000's people didnt have much left to turn to. But I think with the 350zs, evos, etc. prices will decline in the near future.

Everytime they make a 4g i think my car should be worth another $100.00

Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. As long as people are willing to pay those prices then they will stay that high.

Well the BB retail value for a 99 GSX with 60k miles is around $8400. I bought my 98 GSX a few months ago with 50k miles for $12,400 after bargaining with the seller who was at once asking $13,900 and $12,900. The market value on these cars are ridiculous. Like someone earlier stated, its what people are willing to pay and as long as it stays that way, dont expect to find many 97-99 GSX's with 60k miles or less less than $10,000 or so. I would almost doubt you can find a low mileage GSX for that much..but you never know. When I went to Illinois to look at this 99 GSX with 51k original miles, the guy was asking $15,500. The leather seats were torn, tires were near bald, the crank was walking to hell, and the overall condition of the car was good to fair at best. Its been now a little over 4 months and that particular GSX is still sitting collecting dust.

yeah,i have been looking for one too. Ever since Traction became an issue on my GST i have been looking for 1g and 2g GSX to mess with, but all out of my price range

Bought my GSX back in '03...83k miles on it. Bought for $7200.

KBB on it now, with 105k miles, is $5,530.

Don't count on me ever selling it though.

uhhh if the infamous movie was never made.. the prices wouldve never been this high.

honestly, be proud our cars are still holding value. it was only a few years ago they were worth less than a crappy honda with half the power, now the times have changed, and turbo cars are more popular and rare(especially decent dsm's).

blue book is around 10ish for good condition manual GSX with decent(100k-ish) mileage. lower mileage is better.

and most times mods DO depreciate the vehicle, but when it comes to dsmers and inside selling between tuners, if someone has a nice mod list and things were done right(like, say a evo16g setup tuned), then yes, i can see paying around 2-3k more for the car since it has a setup that was done right(especially if i saw it in person and checked the previous owners work), since that was work i probably WAS going to do anyways, but now i can just slap that onto the loan and call it a day.

any person who owns a stock or modified vehicle and says "never seen redline" is downright a lying asshole and should not be trusted. i would buy a car from the guy that says "yeah i took her to the track and ran this and that with these mods" over the guy that says "dude i babied her but i have all these mods and can you believe i never went full throttle?" seriously.

i paid 4500 for a 90 awd talon with 80k miles and it was bone stock, would an average person pay this? of course not, its all about the buyer

I havn't seen a fairly priced DSM in years. They all seem to have way too many miles and have been badly abused with a seller asking for way too much.

The bay area, where i live, auto traders got GSX's just like mine going for $12,000-$14,000 I'd sell mine in a heart beat for that much i got it cheap, finding a stock 1-2 owner 97-99 GSx with under 80k is getting tougher

I mean honestly, is it even worth getting a GSX these days? The majority of them have high mileage or are so extensively modded that I'm thinking it may just be better to use that 11-13k dollars and just put it towards the down payment on an EVO. I'd get a new car and not have to worry about the stress or damage someone else may have done to it like I would if purchasing a used GSX.

You also have to remember that these were expensive cars new. The original sticker on my 99 GSX was nearly $30K. Do you think you will be able to pick up in 03 EVO for $9K in a few years? I doubt it.

Daymn man that guy is crazy trying to sell a gsx in that condition.

I got mine for about 14.9 and mine had just logged 52k, seats were perfect, interior was perfect, paint was pretty damn good and they had some mild mods on it. For one in that good of condition, i couldnt pass it up.

What am I missing here? You buy a modded car and pay little extra or you buy a stock car that's cheaper and then you spend money on mods. You'll probably end up spending about the same amount of money in the end. Can't afford it? Buy a used Civic and stop whining.

Lol glad I got mine on a good deal, meh it makes it better, so not all those ricer honda civic boys can afford an actual nice and fast car.

I bought my talon 2 years ago for 3900 Immaculate condition full options... You just have to look around... I drove 700 miles to pick it up out of state The guy had too many cars and just needed the cash bad... Car only had 80K on it when I bought it.... But i ditched the Crapbox 7bolt because it Walked on me after my Act 2600 clutch install 2 years ago...
I owned a 95 TSI FWD before my AWD and I thought I got a deal on it for 6500$ a few years back... I will never sell my talon though even if someone were to offer me 20K for it cash right now I would still decline them... Too much fun, time, money and learning has come from my talon.. I hope to still have it when i retire

You just have to keep looking... I bought mine for $6000 out the door, manual w/68k miles. Perfect condition, perfect compression across the cylinders.

Also, $6000 around here is a DAMN good price. I could easily resell it for $8000 in a heartbeat. Why won't I? I have everything I wanted... leather seats, manual, turbo, awd, premium sound, sunroof, BLACK, it being a TALON and not a gsx. It was my dream car, and I got it. Took 7 months to find it, but I got it.

Bought my 95 GSX for 4500, 2 owners slight mods, EXECELENT condition, fair miles. He lived 10 mins from my house too. Just got to look. I should resale mine. I will not sell mine either, matter of fact I still loook to buy more gsx's when I can, especially ones that need a little work.

Bought my 95 GSX bone stock w/85k for 6 grand. Like said above, most people wouldnt pay that for an 11 year old car but its what its worth to you.
