can i bolt a 3" DP to my stock exhaust or do i need to have something else with it like a bigger o2 housing or larger catback....reason im asking is cuz a friend is selling me his and i wanted to know if i could just throw it on for the time being or do i have to buy something else first...thanks :laser:

I would put the money you would spend on the down pipe toward a 3" cat back exhaust. You will get bigger gains form the exhaust.

if you getting the downpip might as well get a full cat back exhuast system you will get more hp and it will run much more freely cuz the stock exhaust isn't that big.

has anyone run a 3" turbo back exhaust to their stock muffler to keep the noise down cuz i know for my friends with wrx's they have something called a stealth back exhause that does that if i did end up doing a custom exhause such as that what kind of power am i looking at losing by doing that?

You can throw it on but I would wait and just do the exhaust and DP together, Save time and money on the install. You can do it all in one shot! The DP should fit to the stock turbo if it for a mitsu.

When I did my setup I was half broke so I just bought a downpipe and then just didn't hook the stock exhaust back up and rain open downpipe. It was loud but damn there were killer gains over stock exhaust.

The answer is yes, you can make a 3" dp fit onto stock ex. but it would be MUCH more benificiary for you to buy a cat back ex. first. I'll try to explain it for you.

Whenever you free up the flow of exhaust, and you don't have the cash to do the entire thing at once, its better for you to start from the back and work your way forward. Lets say you got that 3" dp on. Now what? Sure, its gonna flow faster, and better untill it hits the cat or the rest of the stock exhaust. Then its just gonna get bound up, and still flow like stock all the way out. It may sound cool, and may help spool up a tad, but you aren't really freeing up the flow.

If you start by buying a cat back ex. then as soon as it hits that 3" cat back, then whammy!, its going to flow a hell of a lot faster out of the car then the stock peice, which is what you want. It still sounds good and provided faster spool up, but it also gives the exhaust a faster, larger area to exit.

So if you have the money, get the cat back first, then get a high flow cat or test pipe, then finally get the downpipe, you will not be dissapointed.
