Just my luck. It seems my DNP manifold has cracked after 5k miles. I've had this manifold for almost 2 years now. I've contacted DNP to see if they will do anything about it. But I doubt it since it is out of the 1 year warranty.

My question is has anyone had this happen to thier DNP manifold before? I searched and couldnt find a single complaint about this manifold cracking.

I really hope I dont have to buy a new one :(
Heres a pic:

really, what do you expect. dnp uses a very thin wall material, just like the ssautochrome manifolds. good luck though on either getting a replacement or what. you could bring it to a shop, to just reweld over the crack

wow i cant believe he just said that...how can you compare a dnp manifold to a sautochrome?dnp makes one of the best tubular manifolds for dsms period. this is the first time i heard of anyone complaining about a dnp manifold. just like the owner of this manifold said...he couldnt find anyone else complaining about the dnp manifolds either...he must be the first...LOL...

I thought that these were of the highest quality of DSM exhaust manifolds. After spending the money on this manifold I dont feel like I should be responsible to fix quality issues esp. after only 5k miles of use.

The metal doesnt seem *that* thin.

What does tubing thickness have to do with the crack pictured? WTF Look closely and you will see it cracked in the middle of the weld, not in one of the tubes.

LOL

Maybe I should have listened when my laptop popped up and said "DANGER TO MANIFOLD". ROFL

please dont mind him...he doesnt know what he is talking about...on a second note...can you take a better picture of the crack...thanks...

Yeah, i'll try to take a better picture of it and post it up in a couple hours.

your right, i dont know what im talking. ive just had 500hp racecars, etc. but i built them without abolsutely any knowledge. :thumb: Also, the reason why I did not buy a manifold like the dnp is because of the following. Decided to get the SBR cast mani. :thumb:

then please explain to me how come he is the first and only person that i have read about complaining about a dnp manifold...or is it because you have a 500hp dsm with that 16g you list in your profile...LOL...

Are you bracing your turbo to the block like you should? Are you running a Mitsu turbine housing or a Bullseye style? Those are heavier. Also DNPs are thinker than SSautochrome ones. My guess is it cracked from the weight and not being braced liek it should have been so its not the manifolds fault.

Never said 500hp dsm. vw corrado. just got into the dsm world about 2 months ago. but then again, i dont know anything

Here was my race car

well if you just got into the dsm world 2 months ago...how can you state that dnp makes a bad manifold for our cars...

Im running a Mitsu. turbine housing. I shouldnt have to brace my turbo to the block LOL .

So we've come to the conclusion that its my fault the manifold cracked after 5k miles. Get real WTF

From my experience I would label the crack as a fluke...
Has to happen to someone. Unfortunately it was you. :notgood:

So being in DSM's totally makes you the know-it-all on all our vendors and parts, with 2 months of knowledge. This thread started because its like, omfg my turbo sucked my motor inside it self. Things of this nature practically NEVER happen. But of course you being in dsm's in 2months definatly gives you all the information you need to make a plausable statement, where cracking on the welds and not the actual 'thin metal' as you call it, the problem.

For all we know, it could of been vibrational/tortional damage, that eventually broke down the weld. Motor mounts good? exhaust on hangers, or a few tack welds to the frame ?

Possibly lots of wheel hop being how you are FWD.

No wheel hop - I have prothane mounts and I drive around on BFG drag radials. Anyways, I just got this in my email:

Hello,

Our warranty for the manifold lasts for 1 year. In order to get a
replacement it is required that you return the manifold with the original
invoice. Since its been over a year since you've purchased the manifold we
can offer you an extended warranty which includes a brand new manifold and
a 1 year warranty for a fee of $250.00. If you are interested please
contact us.

Thank you,

NOT very happy. Maybe i'll ditch the DNP and buy a SBR manifold. :toobad:

I agree

Again I will ask, What the hell does thin or thick tubing have to do with this thread? Absolutely nothing. If the tubing was that bad, it would have cracked instead of a weld failing.

Anyways, I would suggest fabbing a braket similar to the stock bracket that mounts to the dp and bolts to the block. Turbos arent light at all and hanging off of any manifold, cast or tubular, is a strain on the metal. With all the heat cycling, bumps in the road, and hard jarring launches, something will fail eventually without some support.

Well if you want to ditch it I want it. What I meant by brace is that on stock cars there is a brace on the downpipe that goes to the block. That brace helps support the weight of the turbo, Your asking tubing to support about 45 pounds of weight all while glowing red hot somthigns gonna give.

never stated its your fault which it isn't. And never stated I know all about dsm manufactures, etc. Just stating my knowledge on the whole situation
So far your "knowledge" is baseless with no measurements, references, or genuine reason to suggest you know jack about dsm's and it's aftermarket.

Please show proof of other cracked manifolds or failures of DNP's product, please show us measurements of the materials to support your comments of "same thin crap", bring some proof to the table that they are using the same low grade metals ssautochrome uses which has cracked for a dozen members on this site alone.......

Otherwise sit back down and quit talking out your neck.

I run that DNP with a 40mm gate. I dont have any cracks, none that seen obvious anyway. This makes me wanna go check it now, especially with my bullseye turbine housing hanging off that sucker...... OMG . Regardless of what many may say, DNP produces quality manifolds. However, hanging a "big ass turbo" off that thing might increase the chances of cracking.....any many other factors too. I bought mine used, so a warranty isnt an option.

Catchme.....the problem could have been much worse, try to look on the bring side. WELD IT!.

i would just get it welded at a local shop and call it a day...but if it was me...i would not have purchased a dnp if i was running a stock mistu flanged turbo...

your exactly right. i haven't been in the dsm aftermarket that long. DNP, definately uses a higher grade material than ssautochrome, but still not a material than can withstand several years of use, without the proper way of bracing the turbo. like use a material like a schedule 10 tubing. you'll never have a problem. also, the reason the thickness of material matters for the weld also, is the amount of penetration you get when using a thinner material. The amount of penetration you get on a weld, determines the strength of that weld, and how well its going to hold up over time.

If the tubing was at fault, it would have cracked at the edge of the weld, not in the center of the weld.

seems like i lost some reputation points from this thread...which is nuts because everyone on this thread agrees to what i say except for one person...LOL...good going mods...

I'll have to weld it. Im not too happy about DNP's so called "extended warranty" for 250$. Thats just silly. For the price you pay you should get a better warranty than 1 year.

Please keep in mind this manifold didnt even last 5000 miles on my car.

On a side note - dont take this as me bashing DNP, but I am a unsatisfied customer. And you can take that for what its worth. :notgood: :notgood: :notgood:
