I have a few extra cars (3 conquests, 1 92 awd turbo talon) and would like to use the talon 4g63 engine in the conquest. The talon has no title and has severe body damage.
One of the conquests runs high 13's but has crappy gas mileage. Almost to the point that it might as well have a v8. I am very experienced with the fabrication end of the swap
but would like to know if there are any 5 spd. transmissions that woud work. I have looked at the buschur powerglide adaptor but really want the 5 spd. as I want it to be a strong daily driver with the economy of the 4g63.
I know the talons were lighter but I have lightened the conquest to just 150 pounds of the awd talon, with 2.6 still installed. I am looking at using a stand alone fuel management and custom turbo with the large intercooler from a mitsubishi fuso.
I have access to several different mighty max's and d50's but none that have the 4g63.
is there any other 5spd. trans or an adaptor for the conquest trans?

I really don't have any info to help, but have to applaud the idea. I love the looks of the starions/conquests. One of my co-workers just bought an 88 TSI 5 speed. Pretty nice, I've been helping him here and there. He's new to mitsu, especially turbo ones. Good luck, let us know how it goes. :thumb:

I love the way they drive, and the leather interior always smells so good. I am bored with the limitations on the 2.6 and with everything available for the 4g63 it just seems like the best idea. Everything for the 2.6 is almost double what the parts for the 4g63 are (at least from top end performance).
I have built one of these engines for a friend that run in the 12's in an all wheel drive talon, and it worked so good i want one for myself ( only rear wheel drive).

here is one picture of the car I plan on using.

There is some info on there. A couple of guys have done the swap I believe. I have an 88 Starion that needs a new bottom end in it I think. I have been too busy building my GSX to mess with it yet. Let me know how things go, I am interested in the swap also.
Later and good luck!

The transmission from the Mighty Max (pick-up) will bolt up to the 4g63. But the tranny is only good up to 250hp I heard. Check this link out:

This is not a Conquest, but you get the idea of what is needed. I believe this site belongs to one of the wiseman GTM. I hope this helps :thumb:

thanks for the info. It seems as if I use a early model wide block I could use the conquest
5 spd. trans. But do the n\t blocks have oilers that spray the bottom of the pistons? I am going to rebuild the engine anyway and if I could just use this other block It would be worth it as I have three conquest 5 spds.
What cars or trucks were these blocks in?
:thumb:

Yep, just use the wide block, it'll bolt up to your starquest tranny. Use a good forged piston like Wiseco's and you don't need oil squirters. As for motor mounts use the one's from the D50.

Acording to the info at Importperformanceparts.net the wide block (13.25") came in the 1985-88 Galant and Van, and the 1989-92 Pickup. The engine was called G64B, just in case you didn't already know, this is a 2.4 version of the 4G63, commonly called the stroker motor.

The G64B is not the 2.4 version of the 4G63. It's a different engine family, along with the G54. Block and head design are significantly different. Check at the RRE site below.

There's someone that is currently in the process of doing this swap, actually I believe he has it finished and running now, but is just working out the bugs, let me look for the link... http://www.beatingyou.com/zerog/

G54 is very different from 4G63, but I am pretty sure that G64B is a part of “our” family :).

There isn’t anything in that RRE link that claims otherwise…

Depends on your definition of family. I look at it like the GM line of small blocks, which have identical bore centers. You can interchange a 305, 327, 283, 350, 400 head, crank, etc. A LARGE number of components are interchangable.

The G64 and G54 have a much larger bore and thus a different length bore centers. I don't see people interchanging 4GXX / GXX cranks. I'd classify any of the '4GXX' engines as a family. Similar with GXXx engines, as a different family. Besides the fact that the cylinder head and block have significant changes in front engine cases, balance shaft location, water pumps, cylinder heads, and timing mechanisims.

I think that you missed the pattern behind those engine designations. All G6X motors share bore spacing and thus have interchangeable cranks.

What crank do you think people use in 2.3L strockers? And what block/crank do you think people use for 2.4L strockers? In all cases, they use 4G63 DOHC head.

2.4L engine gets most of its displacement from the extra stroke (.3 L) and not bore (.1 L). The extra bore is under .100”. As a matter of fact, some people use 4G63 crank in G64B engine to end up with ultra high revving 2.1L engine!

I was talking with eric plebani a while back (he was the first to put a 4g into a starion, as well as a mighty max and a porsche)

You can have a machine shop fab up an adapter plate to do the swap, then it's basically just mounts and wiring

he has a kit to do the whole thing, but i dont have his contact info, im not sure if he ever gets on IRC anymore as i haven't been on the dsm IRC channel in quite some time.

Granted, I'm sure I have all the tech info setting in my apartment, but I'm 1400 miles away on vacation. (what the heck am I doing here???) Anyway, the GXX motors have a 4 or 6 mm larger bore? Translate that to a 4Gxx block, can you even bore a 4Gxx block out by that much? So, there is enough area left between bores...... with 4Gxx bore spacing and Gxx bore?

I second the idea on the starion/conquest, they are defintly good looking cars. Whats your horsepower goal on this project?
