I have been trying to diagnose a nostart in this thread:
http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=257390

But I am having trouble locating the CAS. I have tested the Crank position sensor but not the camshaft angle sensor. Everyone says its inbetween the cam pulleys but there isn't anything there. So I feel it is appropriate to start a new thread on this to lay it to rest forever.

I got to looking this morning and noticed my timing cover was previously cracked. So I removed it hoping to see something better. I cannot locate the CAS:

So I looked at the wiring to the Crank position sensor and noticed this other plug below it that I can't identify. Is this a lead for the CAS? (grey plug is crank sensor plug, black plug is what?):

The cam angle sensor will be behind the intake cam gear. There should be four plugs down there: one for the crank sensor, one for the cam sensor, one for the coil pack, and one for the a/c compressor.

I don't understand how there is room for a plug and wire to run behind my intake cam gear? The only two plugs down there are my CPS and the unidentified one.

The coil pack plug is on the top of the motor attached to the coil pack? Let me try to draw the plugs for you in text:

Those are the pin arrangements respectively.

You should take a picture of where yours is an show it to me on the thread!

Its a flat sensor and the came gear isn't a full thickness from the center so theres plenty of room. The wire harness comes out from underneath the cam gear itself. If I remember right the wire harness should come out between the upper and center timing covers. It should come out of the slot thats made into the cover on the front of the engine but if someone has been lazy it may be coming out of the side nearest the firewall. I'll take a picture from my parts car when I go over to auto today.

Alrighty as promised here are your pictures (sorry they're blurry but I have a crappy camera, but you get the idea):

In the first picture are two connectors on the engine itself. The one on the Left is for the Camshaft Position Sensor. The one on the Right is for the Crankshaft Position Sensor. And yes I am 100% certain.

In the second picture the connectors are part of the wiring harness on the vehicle. They all come out of the same loom by the intake manifold.
1.) A/C Compressor Clutch
2.) Crankshaft Position Sensor
3.) Camshaft Position Sensor
The A/C compressor and the crank sensor have the same connectors but different colored wires. The crank sensor wires are red, blue with a white stripe, and black.

The third picture is where the camshaft sensor is on a 95. Its hard to tell but the red arrow is pointing to the wiring harness that is connected directly into the sensor on the intake camshaft. On a side note on the opposite end of the intake cam shaft there should be a black rubber kind of plug to seal off the head. If there is a sensor mounted at the end of the head some one has done some work on the head and switched sensors.

I hope these pictures help. Good luck.

Well thank you for the pics it has totally filled me in.

I took the initiative while I was waiting for you to post again and tested that plug (Crank position sensor). I am not getting anything but constant voltage from the signal line like the magnets aren't retrieving the solenoid.

I am going to put these findings in the other thread here.

If you are every in Akron, I am totally buying you a beer! Thank you so much. Someone should archive this thread and lay the 95 CAS sensor myth to rest.

its a similar topic, but how do you get the timing shield off? I lucked out that mine was previously cracked. I looked at it and a motor mount is completely in the way.

The 2G timing cover is 3 pieces so it may not look like it but it just goes around the mount. If you're referring to the small screw that's blocked by the mount you need to remove the chassis half of the mount to remove it. Most people leave it out since you'll probably be removing the cover again sooner than you think.
