- Background
- Well back in 2010 or 2011 (I cannot remember), my dad and I went to the very first ModernAutomotive Performance Proving Grounds. So long ago actually it was called something along the lines of "Sport Compacts and Jag Pro Diesel weekend; yeah, it was pretty insane. Sadly I wasn't old enough to drive yet so I was along for the ride.
My dad and I purchased a 1995 Eagle Talon TSi AWD Auto. from a guy at the event. He drove from Wisconsin to meet us in Brainerd, MN. We got the car for a pretty decent price. Knowing what I know now about the car..it was a little too much.
Anyway, a week after this my dad and uncle were at our family owned auto body shop that we also use as a used car dealership. We buy cars from the Mid-State Auto Auction. By some sheer chance they both happened to look out at highway 10 to see a red 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse among other cars on a semi transport truck.
My dad and uncle just looked at each other and figured what luck we had; we go to the trouble of sourcing a decently priced car then a really nice one shows up to the auction.
Well the next day was the auction; it was on a Thursday instead of the normal Friday because of the 4th of July. Anyway, we get there, test drive it and waited about 4 hours for the car to come across the block. My dad won it for around the book price. It had a decent amount of modifications for a 15 year old kid! Haha 2.5" exhaust, half-ass'd "cold air" intake (just a pod filter), triple gauge pillar with boost, oil pressure and narrow-band air/fuel ratio. Plus a lot of body color match accented interior pieces.
I drove it as soon as I had a license. I never really did much but add hard SMIC piping, a Greddy Type-S BOV and a Injen intake.
Rust got to the car though. We knew there was an issue from day one as the pictures will tell. We just avoided it because..well, I don't really know. It just got so bad the upper control arm..or whatever we call it broke off its mount and through the strut tower.
So its been about a year since we've torn it apart. The replacement strut tower is about 60% installed. It needs suspension, body, paint and engine work.. Or just an engine. lol I took it apart while attending college to become an engine machinist and never got to it. Mostly due to money issues.
So you're all up to date! Stay tuned for more!
